View Full Version : Netgear router?

Hey, it's been a long time since I played AC but I've finally come back.

This time I have a Netgear WGT624 router with 3 computers attached to it. When I first tried to connect I got a "server disconnected" message. So I check the troubleshooting and decided to open ports. So I go to port triggering in my settings, set up one for AC, and add ports 9000 to 9013. It didn't help, I still can't get past the updating vile. Any suggestions on what else I can try to do in my router settings or elsewhere to get things working? I'll be here to answer any questions if I didn't give enough information...thanks in advance

Port Trigering?
OR
Port Forwarding?

Most times triger ports dont work right... so you might want to lean away from that.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101145.asp

Is this waht you did for AC and its not working?

Basicaly to clarify the instructions some...(I hope anyway)

you have to creat a custom server rule for each computer you want to play ac on. so if you got 3 clients you want on ac, you need to add 3 rules, useing ports 9000-9015, 9100-9115, 9200-9215
the server Ip address for each rule should point to your diffrent computers...
Also you need to select UDP insted of TCP/IP (Note in reviewing you routers docs, I find no mention of a UDP/TCP setting, if it doesnt have one you in big trouble)
Lastly goto each client computer and setup ac to use the port range to forwarded to it. ie 9000, 9100, 9200

I had to do the port forwarding thing on my Netgear, and it's working well. Three machines running AC, all plus.

That said, you will need to do two additional things:
1) Make sure you have the Windows firewall turned on. If you are running Win 98 and doing port forwards to the machine, you are at great risk.

2) Make sure the IP addresses on the machines don't change. You can do that by making a DHCP reservation, or by assigning static IPs to the machines, but do it you must. Reason: Port forwarding has to be to those IPs. If they change, your forwards will not work.

Note that triggering will not work on most netgears if you want to run multiple comps and AC, because most netgears will only support one connection doing port triggering at a time, and the other machines will be left out.

Still not working...

I've done everything you both have said and it still doesn't work. It's just me that's playing AC, the other two computer don't. I make sure the port forwarding is set to the IP address I have inside the router and I make sure that it opens ports 9000 through 9015. When I go to play the game it still gets stuck at the Update Progress part. Any other ideas?

The only other thing I can suggest is that you open up a wider range of ports. I'm using 20 ports per machine, or 9000-9020, then 9021-9040, etc. Not sure what else to tell you, except that you could always go buy another router/FW, try it (linksys is a good bet) and return it if it gives you the same results. Keep it if it works better and try to take the netgear back. Good luck.

Does your router have a specific UDP/TCP-IP setting when setting up the port forwards?

ok i am having this same problem right now with the same router. netgear wgt624. i have been migrated over. i open all of the ports that are listed on the turbine site but can not get connected....i can only get connected if i go to the wan setup and turn on the defualt dmz server and specify only one computer...i need help here too.

I have an odd problem with my netgear 624 which started roughly around the same time I was migrated, but that may be a fluke. My current problem is I have intermittant issues getting logged in (first vial fills, but the second doesn't), but I can eventually log in.

Before migration, my 624 worked flawlessly. If you are having issues, definitely configure it for port forwarding as described above. I never got port triggering to work but port forwarding worked fine.

If you still have trouble, check your firmware version. My 624 didn't work for AC when I first pulled it out of the box, but I flashed it to a later firmware which corrected that. I am currently using 4.2.4 for the firmware (I think it had 4.1.4 originally).

Are you using a software firewall at all?

In my case, no. Just for kicks I turned on the firewall in XP but in all honesty, it doesn't make any difference. I think that in the end I may flatten my system and reload but it doesn't bother me that much yet.

I'm running a network through a server with WinRoute currently, and after mapping all the ports (9000-9013) on the TCP/UDP setting for my computer, I still cannot get through that updating bar... connection just times out. I'm running XP sp2, but I know others running the same without difficulties, don't think this is just a netgear problem, not sure though - frustrating as hell tho I must say :P

Talk about frustrating. I have been trying off and on all morning to log in and get patched. As what has happened before, the first vial fills but the second does not. I just tried now and it is working though nothing changed on my end. I estimate I had 5-7 failures in a row before this time which allowed me to patch. I'm still puzzled by this behavior.

I'm running XP Pro with SP2 and I have the windows firewall disabled. I don't run any 3rd party software firewalls on my system though I am firewalled at my netgear 624 (which has NAT and SPI).

Update on my plight:

I have been able to successfully login without any issues 5 times now. The only thing that I am aware of changing is Windows update ran yesterday and I saw it installed 10 updates/patches. I haven't had the time to check what was installed, but since my last windows update, I have been able to login every time. It may be a fluke but here's hoping it's fixed for me!

so check this out: I have the same router, a NetGear WGT624v3.

I went to portforward.com, and followed their directions, and eventually got it to work after A LOT of dicking around.
Right now, I just have one rule:
~ switched to TCP/UDP (which is default)
~ chose literally all ports in 9000-9015 (as oppose to using 3 seperate "services" as they suggest)
~ set the IP to a static I have set up for the laptop at 192.168.1.200 (chose a number high like they suggested to not get accidently tagged)
~ plug in wired connection for even more stability than wireless- also to keep from mistaking errors

For setting up the static IP:
~I just went to my wired connection
~ went to the tcp/ip v4 properties
~ and set them to numbers i chose, using the dns, gateway, and subnet mask from ipconfig

the second section, chosing the default dns servers, was kinda funky. when i do ipconfig, it showed only ONE dns server, no alternate, and it was the same as my gateway; 192.168.1.1
so, I logged in to my netgear router, and clicked on router status. it showed my default dns server as sometime TOTALLY different, insanely different, and had an alternate that made sense as well! Both of these numbers correseponded to what other people had reported, I Cant remember them now but i know they were the right ones. So i entered them in for the static, instead of what was provided by ip config EVEN THOUGH port forward said to do so.

now for my problem =P
i get kicked from the game about 30 times a session, or roughly every 5-15 minutes. its quite ridiculous. if i go level and grind, i get kicked the least, probably around once every 15-25 minutes. But that is only because im not jumping through portals and constantly loading. See, I get kicked guarenteed EVERYTIME i go through a portal which i haven't been through before. What happens is the minute i come out the portal, everything loads except my character, which stays in portal space and all bubbly. I cant move or talk (at least i cant see myself talk, I think i can actually just blindly type and communicate), but i can open my pack, id stuff, see peiople chatting, etc...Its odd. And the to make matters worse, it seems like what I thought to be random occurances where I would get stuck in portal space are actually affected by whether I am holding a movement key or not. When I recall to the mansion, it seems like i can still randomly get stuck either way. but other places, like craigstone, I would normally get stuck lets say 1/3 times. if I'm holding forward though (like run forward), I'll pop through and even if it takes a few seconds longer like a portal freeze normally acts like, I'll pop out and be able to play.

Sorry for the damn novel I just wrote, but i think the details might be important. if you've gotten this far, thank you very much for reading my post and attempting to help. I'm a AC vet so to speak, played ibeta and until about 01 at which point i started hoping around mmo's, only to find nothing compared to the brilliance on AC.

praying someone comes up with something! Thanks

and get me in game when ya can on PapaSha.
