View Full Version : So rares will always drop on death?

Not an issue for white dots, but a total waste for reds. I'll end up muling any rare I would get because no one will trade for it and I'll most likely end up losing it the same day I looted it.

I could have totally read it incorrectly and info may be wrong, but what is the point of looting an ultra rare item that is very useful, but not being able to do anything with it.

thought they said that they will drop. not that they always drop.

The concept is that a rare can, not will, randomly drop on a flagged monster. Monsters are flagged by being killed by someone with the expansion pack. This means if you're in a fellow and you're being outkilled by someone without the expansion, you will not have a chance to find a rare. Each tier of rares has a different chance of being found. It's all a matter of luck.

^ You missed the point of his post.

If rares always drop from a character when he/she dies, then on DT or any other server where a toon is red then it will be looted by the one who killed him/her.

If rares drop on death but can be covered by DI's then it's a different matter.

They said they were addressing items dropped on death, perhaps they will look into this.

It would certainly be incentive to hunt the target down to retrieve your loot :D

One of the writeups (ACVault maybe) said that rares will ALWAYS drop on death. Meaning anyone who loots one and plans on using it, will indeed lose it withing a day or so depending on if they actually fight anyone. If they can be covered by DIs, great. In fact they should drop on death, but just not everytime.

So do they always drop on death or just sometimes?

My understanding is (devs can correct me if wrong) is that they will drop on death.

Now in PvP area this could get interesting. Yes you could just mule the rare and go "Mine, Mine, my precious!" but then what good is the rare doing for you? What if it is a rare that could be helpful in a PvP situation?

Rare Items: Adventurers in Dereth will occasionally come across advantageous rare items that are scattered across the land. Some of the items are transitory and may be used only once, while others are eternal and may be used over and over again. However, players will lose the precious rare items should their characters meet their demise.

"However, players will lose the precious rare items should their characters meet their demise. "

That could also mean it would be destroyed.

At ACPL it was explained that rares would always drop on death but there are some rares that will be destroyed after so many uses, or it's a one use and done item etc.

Rares will always drop on death.

Some rares may be useful in PvP combat. So you'll have to make a decision to either risk losing the rare in combat, or go without its benefits.

I actually like that dynamic on Darktide. Obviously they'll have no trade value but it will make it very interesting with the more useful rares. If you ever played "Golden Gun" on Goldeneye (or any "hold the briefcase or flag" mode in a fps) it sounds pretty similar to that.

From Ibn's post it goes for white, red and even pink. You die it doesn't matter what killed you. You drop the rare. However its only Pks who could truely lose it cause they can be looted.

I very much doubt rares will drop on death while pink.

My question is more, if they drop on death, will ALL rares dissipate, or will some remain? As I know that it was stated some may be totally lost on death like a Singularity weapon before it is attuned/bonded/etc.

I haven't seen anywhere where they said they will be destroyed on death. They have said some will have a limited number of uses and others will have infinate number of uses. All rares will always drop on death, but I don't know of anyone every saying they will be destroyed on death.

The thing I hate about "always drop on death" items unless they are actually a death item is.... sometimes our "death" has nothing to do with our play. The server has problems... we log back on and ... surprise... our cherished items are gone. If the server downtime is for an extended period, there may be roll back but in most cases, this is not true.

If you lost that "once in a lifetime" rare, through no fault of your own, I can see people quitting in frustration.

Another thing... we need to encourage exploration, there is so much of Dereth to see. Of what value is that "once in a lifetime" rare if you are afraid to carry it? You have a choice... leave it at home (it just lost its value to you), stay in a safe area (discourages hunting, exploring) or take your chances by carrying it.

You wouldn't necessarily always have to carry it, but at the same time you wouldn't always have to keep it at home. If you're just going hunting, I don't see a problem with corpse retreival, but if you're doing a quest in which it is impossible to retrieve a corpse if you die, I would leave it at home.

Well when they drop on every death I have to totally disagree with you. No rare will prevent you getting owned by 10 people camping a portal drop. Woohoo what an accomplishment I found a rare that will be gone next time I decide to go pk solo. Nice gank item's ibn

...Unless one of the rares can do 400+ damage in PK... Or maybe something that protects you from attacks for about 30 sec while you go and start killing people or run like hell, something like that could definately be useful in PK..

If they are just DROPPED and not DESTROYED, it'll add a new dynamic to PK. Like if they're Weapons of Mass Destruction, tide turners in a large group fight. You'll have different monarchies going after eachother, searching for the rares and such. Almost as good as land control.

No one is going to stop ganksquads anyway. They've already organized and they have no reason to stop. Five guys can kill someone quicker than 1 guy, and no matter what Turbine could do, that will ALWAYS be true. IMO, you should stop complaining, get some friends, or gb2ff.

Mule Assasin!

I can see myself, joining small monarchies finding who have rares on their trade mules and BAMMM! Assasination, take the rares and run, run ...run.... or just log off forever!

bah!, it drop everytime, no matter what and how big is the death item valued at. rares drop always, on every death you get.

it just another hookable objects.

those with most rares on single account, single character, if hookable, they are playing, the ones with most rares win.
LOL!!! it like those old car bumper stickers said, "those with most (toys) items died wins". :D :D
