Its cool that they are adding a new playable race. But I was really hoping that they would add some new character classes i.e. skills. Maybe i'm getting spoiled from playing COH where there are 5 vastly different character types, each with about 5 different flavors. But I was really hoping that they would add some kind of pet class at least. For some reason i have always been drawn to pet classes. I played a necromancer in diablo 2 and loved it. I played a nec in EQ for the sort time i was there. Rogue in DAOC again for the short time i was there (they have pets of course). Now i'm playing a controller in COH. I have 2 different pet types. One is more to distract enemies, but they can do pretty good damage too. The other is really good at damage, but i don't get it for 4 more levels.

In ac, they could have made a new magic school called summoning or something like that. You could summon magical pets (what they would look like/do could be anything. Hell golems would work). That would have been really fun. Or they could have made a beast taming skill. How cool would it be to have your own little pet olthoi or tusker!!

It's going to be tough to come back just to lvl up another tank/archer/or mage, even if it is a new race.

Overall, the expansion seems nice. But there is nothing announced yet that makes me say, "wow. i gotta come back for this!".

Since AC isn't built upon classes but skills, the combination of skills you can take are huge. Think for a minute about all the possible combinations of skills you can take, train or speced, that is a wide variety.

As for making people wanting to come back, new quests, a new hertiage race full of new lore, new land mass, augmentation gems, and an elder game coming on the heels of the expansion pack. Not to mention the new art/graphics, moving to DirectX 9, all sounds good to me.

I do have a couple of concerns about the expansion pack, but nothng that would keep me from purchasing it at this time.

Sure you can have lots of combinations of skills, but when you get down to it you are either a mage, melee, or archer. You might be more or less focused on magic or better in one type of defense than another, but you are still doing the same basic things. I'm not saying that the expansion isn't going to be nice. I will probably come back and check it out.

But I was really hoping for stuff like pet skills, real crafting, more aoe spells for mages, dual weilding, new ranged attacks for archers. Something that would be a totally new experience.

That I will agree with...wish some of that sort of "stuff" was making it in too.

I'm sure they tossed around many of these ideas, and did what they thought was best in the time frame allwoed. Rememebr we do got a live team that does some pretty cool stuff. No reason they can't add things like this as part of new monthly content.

Hmm.. with AC Dark Majesty we got ML. ML is the biggest piece of ---- of a land mass and it still is today. I sure hope the people who designed this island aren't designing any new content for this next expansion.

Maybe, but you would think that IF they were going to add these things, that they would have done it for the expansion.

New classes would be a huge selling point for the expansion (talking about new subscribers). So would crafting, etc. The new race helps, but people might be dissapointed to find out how little varies from race to race in AC compared to other mmorpg's.

You know, I found this part of the Q&A intersting...

http://acvault.ign.com/features/editorials/tn2k4-expansion.shtml#todqaskills

Will we see new skills with the expansion?
Answer: There are no new skills planned for the expansion. Read into that what you will…

There is (seriously) discussion for a hairdressing skill to be released sometime after the expansion pack. I agree some new skills like you said would be neat, and may offer more variety in character templates. I would like to see things like "Dual-Wield <Weapon>" or "Luck" (to postively effect your rng rolls; smaller variance, etc.)
