Now granted, I didn’t attend the event, so I can’t say that I am knowledgeable about all the information that was presented. But, it is does appear that Turbine neglected to include some very important information into their presentation. Here is what they forget to mention...

In the AC expansion pack Turbine will be making some changes to existing game play and introducing new customizable functionality to provide the player with more information and options than currently offered. Some of these changes and new functions will include:

1) Improved radar and radar control. Which would include allowing the player to identify user specified items or mobs using a text sequence /radarlocate “”. An example, /radarlocate “Singularity Trove” when a Sing Trove is within the limits of the radar it will appear as a different color icon in the radar screen. A sound alert will also be an option. Other new /radar< function> will provide the user many options to control the UI radar.

2) An in-game mail and auction house. Players will be able to send mail to other players. The mail can include text, pyreals, and even items. Auction obelisks or NPC’s will be added to allow players to auction or sell items to other players. Upon implementation of the auction functionality, the marketplace will be eliminated.

3) We will be adding a “magic potential” number to each character, viewable in the character panel. As your character levels, the magic potential number increases. This number will dictate what level spells (both positive and negative) that can be cast on your character by other player characters. The higher level your character, the higher the spell they can receive. This will allow for characters, both magic using and non-magic using, to receive spells appropriate for their level. This will eliminate low-level characters from receiving the benefits of higher-level spells, e.g., you will not see a level 5 character with a full set of level 7 buffs. Wield requirements on weapons and armor will control the level Item Magic spells that can be cast upon them.

4) Turbine will be adding an in-game macro system to aid player in the mass production of trade skill items, such as potions and fletching. The macro functionality will have timed loops, which will require the player to be present at the keyboard in order to restart the sequence.

5) The portal system will be expanded to include more area destinations. At the same time, all dungeon portals will no longer be summonable, only recallable. Portal recall functionality will be given to all characters.

6) An in-game "buff-profile" system will be added, /buffprofile "". This will allow players to create profiles that fully buff their characters in a single keystroke. Several profiles can be saved.

7) Turbine will institute changes in the “Code of Conduct” and the “End User Licensing Agreement” policies to include text that specifically prohibits any type of unattended character activities. “Unattended character activities” will be defined as any unattended play that benefits the character, or other characters, in any way shape or form. These new policies will be aggressively enforced with account bans as the penalty. This is designed to eliminate “Trade Bots”, “Buff Bots”, ‘Portal Bots, and the like. Turbine feels that Asheron’s Call should be played by players and not by a macro script being run by unattended computers.

With the expansion, Turbine has to be aware that 3rd party programs have caused the ruination of their game. The only way to “even the playing field” is to add functionality and changes, which replace and eliminate the need for 3rd party applications and macro scripts.

If Turbine wants any success for the AC expansion pack, beyond the placation of the existing player base, they will have to change the market perception of AC within the gaming world and non-AC players.

Rant off...have a nice day
