View Full Version : How about a little more info on the landmass in the expansion..

one of the few things that will help me decide if i wish to purchase the up coming expansion pack is if the landmass is worth it.
i always wondered why you were able to add the singularity caul, aerlinthe, alphus lassel, and the vesayen isles with out an expansion pack then had to have one to release ac:dm. i was always disappointed with the fact that we got such a small island.
are there any hints as to the size of the next island? if its something that only takes 15 mins to run from the south end to the north, or from the east to the west coast i just wouldn't see the need to buy the expansion.

I hear that the new landmass is so big, we're going to be getting a second "world map" like the one you already use to look at all of Dereth!!!!
(Disclaimer: this is completely untrue!)

Relying on thesize of the new continent as your sole reason to buy the expansion pack is unwise. Remember ML was part of ACDM and while the Island is small, the numerous changes it brought with us is amazing. Remember too, that all the lore and fun of the expansion requires one to buy it.
I recommend you buy it for the 49.99 and stick around for years to enjoy it. ;)
I know you will base your judgement on so much more... I just hope you come along for the ride... the more the merrier.

I dont think you get the point of why that is one of the few reasons I use to decide if I wish to buy the expansion. The lore from AC:DM wasn't all that great, the content wasn't what I would call great. AC:DM in my eyes was one of the worst times in AC do to the QQ and what it brought to my server.
If I know we'll have every inch of the new island mapped with in 4 hours of its launch do to its small size I wont see the need to buy it. =/
If the landmass is atleast the size of the dires, I wont need lore to make me want to buy the expansion, the new landmass alone will make me want to buy it :p

Most of us bought ACDM to have housing. This was a biggie.
If you are buying ToD for the new island, I am not sure that reason is a valid one. The powergamers will be there first, just as they were on VT. It will simply be another race for xps, especially since the new level cap of 275.
Since almost everyone will want to make characters there, imagine the lag.
If you like the rest of the additions, that would be a reason to buy it or you may be disappointed (or if you simply love AC or are curious). There may be tons of things in the xp pack that we don't know yet, things other than the new Island.
I will take the wait and see approach. The new level cap has already disenchanted me.

I'm not going to pay 49.99 for it. Not for 6 accnts. Absolutely NOT. I dont know where you got that number, but I sure hope you made an uneducated guess.

I for one will just wait a year until we all get it free! :)

i think it would be great to have a larger landmass, i would like to point out we are getting "the Viamontian Isles" up to the north, perhaps tho, for a CONSIDERABLE sized continent... Dericost... and also the Archepeligo of the Yalaini although that is much smaller, this would open up a HUGE amount of lore from the old days of the empyrean, yalaini, and flatacot, and dericostians, also, if we cant HAVE the new continents, can we get a map of the ENTIRE Auberaun? PLZ PLZ PLZ? lol :p :(
also, would be nice if we could get a dev on this not just playas

Unless they are making some major changes to the code that handles the gameworld, they cannot produce any "outdoors" areas that exceed the area of the in-game map. That means that they *cannot* produce a new area that is the size of the direlands.
But then, even if they could, why do it? AC already has one of the largest landmasses in any MMORPG. I've played quite a few other MMOs--FFXI, AC2, EQ:OA, and Phantasy Star Online, to name a few--and the game worlds in all of these games were a mere fraction of the size of the Dereth of AC.
I would far rather the devs spent their time making *interesting* areas than making *big* areas. Marae Lassel was cool not because of its size (although it is in fact quite large--it's roughly the same size as the OP), but because there were no featureless stretches of boringness. Running across ML is a helluva lot more interesting than running across the A'mun desert, or the northern Direlands wastes.
If your only concern is cartography, then I'm sorry to say, even an island twice the size of ML will be mapped within a week of its release. The same would happen in any other MMO as well. I would suggest finding a different passtime, since yours seems to be untenable.

Well to me the new land mass looks like it will be woodsy with snow and stuff maybe just what i get from the pictures. Monster in an Ice cave and then you got the Hall in the woods sort of like a highland setting somaybe it will be a highland island with mountains in it? er something.

Well, on an abstract basis, I'm interested how they will reconcile the new landmass with the lore. According to lore, as I understand it, the Val homeland is boredered by water on three sides, but the 4th side is supposedly the ALUV homeland.
This does indeed suggest -- potentially -- a fairly large landmass, but the ALUV side may be inaccessible via mountain range blockage or some such (at least early on)...

Light, the Viamont homeworld is in Ispar, not Dereth . . . :)

Ah, well, that takes care of that question.
But then, how about the second prong of the lore...that all the remaining landmasses on Dereth are carperted by Olthoi. Will Asheron call in the exterminators?
