i came in after the bael attacks and the gaerlan invasions with martine. Who is Martine and how did he turn out the way he is/was (he still alive?). Who is gaerlan and y does he hate Asheron. Who is bael and where is he now?

Hmmm short versions ...

Bael is a Shadow of immense power. Became one after his son died of starvation at the hands of Asheron's people. After being banished to a crystal prison he escaped but was imporisoned yet again thanks to the work of the Undead, Renegae Shadows, The Virindi and the Isparians.

Martine was a man from Ispar (like our characters) who was sold out by his friends to be experimented on by the Virindi. He bacame a half man /half viridni being. Eventually overcame his issues and became good again bringing down Gaerlan's Flying Citadel.

Gaerlan was an Empyrean mage who's brother was killed. Gaerlan blames Asheron for it.

Martine hated Asheron because of the same reason many hate/dislike him. Asheron opened the portal here, and many people lost family back in Ispar, and are doomed to be immortal (due to lifestones). Also, he did go a little crazy from having been augmented by the Virindi...

As for his death, that's something we don't know. There are many theories, some say he is in Ispar, others say he died while bringing down Gaerlan's Fortress. I believe that he is still alive somewhere, just waiting to become the Imperator from AC2...
