Heya.

I was pretty caught up with Lore when I left, but it's been some time now (I left in like... February after ML came in, I felt bad about bumming my friends account even if he didn't use Solclaim) and things have.... changed, I see. Last event I remember was a showdown between Martine and Asheron that scared the heck out of me when Martine beat down the Empyrean but then Elysa calmed him down or... something. And they started working together.

Can anyone fill me in on the Martine-Asheron alliance?

What's the deal with Nuhmuhdira now?

What's the deal with these new Virindi that confuse the heck out of Leopold when you give him their masks? (And ye gods they have creepy masks!)

And is anyone else pleased as punch that Branith seems to be coming back into the picture with the expansion after practically no mention for years? =D

"Can anyone fill me in on the Martine-Asheron alliance?"

Martine and Asheron teamed back up after Gaerlan entered the spotlight.
Gaerlan used Martine to get to Asheron. You see, Gaerlan had blamed Asheron for the death of his brother when in fact he himself was responsible (this was back when Asheron was exploring the Olthoi homeworld and Gaerlan's brother was a student of Asheron's). Gaerlan was in portal space at the time Martine was opening the portals to ML. A side effect to this was, Martine released Gaerlan from portal space. Gaerlan agreed to help Martine fight back at Asheron, but Gaerlan's motives were to summon the Harbinger and rid everyone from Dereth for the Empyreans to take back, once he removed them from portal space.

The two paired up to save everyone from Gaerlan. If I'm not mistaken Elysa's son first went to Martine after the injuries Martine inflicted to Asheron, and he asked Martine to help them heal Asheron and fight Gaerlan.

Supposively the agreement between Asheron and Martine was, if he choose to help Asheron would see to it that he would be redeemed for the past crimes against the Isparians. Asheron also agreed to help Martine remove the Virinid side to him (implant(?))

"What's the deal with Nuhmuhdira now?"

Nuhmudira has long been practicing Falatacot Blood magics, what are known as Blood Rites. The magic arts of Geomancy if one form of Blood magics, which Nuhmudira used to make things like housing. She's a mage for the Arcanum and from her research into the lost "Empyrean" magics she provides them with useful items to help Isparians. Many of the things she does are with the intentions of it being for a good cause but result in something bad. For instance the covenant stones for housing hidden properties come from the life of a criminal that Nuhmudira sacrificed.
Also, during the Olthoi Insurgence story arc last year Nuhmudira paid the famous assassion Oswald to kill Eysa. She also trapped Asheron on his island.

"What's the deal with these new Virindi that confuse the heck out of Leopold when you give him their masks? (And ye gods they have creepy masks!)"

Aerbax, the Virindi "researcher" who created Martine, came into contact with the Shadow General Ler Rhan. The two have teamed up and are trying to take a "energy source" and fuse it with the Quiddity. Aerbax and Ler Rhan have been experimenting with fusing Shadows and Virindi together; Shadows to a source of the Quiddity (?) and Virindi to the energy source (?) among other things. I believe that is why Leopold is confused when you hand him the new Virindi Masks.

I didn't know that! I haven't really sat down yet and read the background lore to ToD. How does Branith fit into it?

Thanks for the help! That was pretty much how Asheron and Martine stood when I left, so I guess there have been no further developments on that side?

Why did Nuhmuhdira try to kill Elysa?

And the Presentation mentioned a very powerful Branith Staff of Fire, which combined with the Viamontian stuff makes me think that perhaps Branith was the first Viamontian in Dereth.

Why did Nuhmuhdira try to kill Elysa?

Because Nuhmie wanted to be the one to kill the Olthoi Queen, apparently.

The Branith Wand mentioned was an example of the kind of rare item we could find in the expansion, nothing more. Another example mentioned was "Elysa's Bangle"; that doesn't mean that Elysa is also Viamontian.

Nuhmudira tried to kill Elysa because Nuhmudira is a glory hog that hates Asheron. Since Elysa and Asheron are friends, Nuhmudira thinks that it is in the best intrest of the people to eliminate her, as Elysa might allly with the Empyreans over her own people. Also, Nuhmy wanted to defeat the Ancient Olthoi Queen herself in order to get support from the people, and if Asheron and Elysa were there to help, they would get all the glory instead of her... So, she decided to take them out of the picture. Elysa, a mere Isparian, was to be killed, because she's easy to kill. (heh) I guess she chose Asheron to merely be imprisoned since the only way to kill him would be to do it herself, which would obviously make her look pretty bad if anyone found out.

Of course there are no more developments on their teamwork, seeing as Martine has disappeared for over two years, and is pretty much out of the picture. Though that's not to say he's dead...

Difference is, we know a lot about Elysa, we know almost nothing about Branith. Them bringing him up is as obscure for most of the current player base as them bringing up the Fort Aimaru, from what I can tell. =|

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I find it kind of odd they dropped Martine at that point, I would have liked to see it continue...

Well, there was final battle between Martine and Gearlan. Gearlan opened a portal to Ispar, so he could go home, and be with his wife and child again, but he would need to leave us to his (Gearlan's) machinations. Martine decided to attack Gearlan instead of running through the portal, a quick battle ensued and in the end, Martine was blown-up through where the portal stood. Noone really knows whether Martine jumped through the opened portal and ran back to Ispar, if he was pushed through and is now back with his family, or if he was actually incinerated and turned to dust, dieing so that Gearlan was weak enough for us to attack, then for Numadirah to trap his soul forever in various crystals (thus exacting her revenge.) But we do know that at the spot where he was standing, his robe and mask lay on the ground...

So nothing more to do with him, he is either back in his home world, or his dead body showed up there, or he was reduced to atoms like a Jedi when he died.

The citizens on Dereth voted to commemerate his sactific and struggle with himself and for our survival by naming the first joint-town of Aun, Lugian and Human after Candeth Martin... Candeth Keep, The City of Hope.
