so new accounts get to use the new system. do old accounts at least get to use the new launcher or are we still on the zone?

You guys should totally do an inactive account purge, I imagine it would minimize the amount of junk accounts you would have to move over. I mean if the account hasnt been active in the last year or more, there's not much point in migrating that data is there?
As a side note, thanks for the update.

curious how much later this year you mean... really getting sick of having issues with the zone, and been looking forward to getting away from it for quite some time.

Still on the Zone until the migration phase starts. I know this is a disappointment for many of you, but we can't switch login systems without also switching billing, they're tied together.

You're not the only one. But we're not willing to accelerate the process and put folks' accounts at risks.

I can't get into details at the moment, but an inactive account purge actually wouldn't change the amount of work required.

It is, but I'm sure most of us will put up with it a bit longer to ensure everything goes smoothly. Wouldn't want any mishaps happening with any of my characters. Thanks for the quick response :)

Thanks for 2 things, First is the update, second is the multiple paths to this thread:
Hamfast, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
When will we be able to get a new account for use with the new system?
(no, I don't need a 5th, but was willing to get one for no other reason then to use the new system) :D
Feel free to list items you would like us to try with the new accounts to test them (I am willing to do that too... call it Beta Testing the thing) ;)
When will we be able to get a new account for use with the new system?
We'll have more information on that very topic within the next few weeks. When, why, and how.

Ibn:
a)Has the transfer of ownership of accounts been disccused ?
In case you not sure of what i'm refering to, some Companies for a fee will transfer owership of an acount (I.e can't be recalled)
b)Also some companies (for a fee) will start an account with a partialy leveled character the allows new people to catch up with friends that are already playing.
Also will there be any news on what other possible services Turbine might offer once billing is place ?

Ibn,
How long will we have to update our accounts?
The correct answer is, "Until at least March."
Thanks,
Don!

These are things we've discussed, but there are no definite plans for new services at this time. We're very focussed on three things right now -- making sure players can pay for their accounts, making sure players can log in to their accounts, and making sure that their characters are there when they log in.
Once we've gotten those three done, then we can take a look at other things.
How long will we have to update our accounts?

I don't have an answer to that one yet. However I don't expect that the migration will last that long.

you shoiuld lower the cost for the monthly payment.......to atleast 8.00 or back to 9.95 12$ is to expensive for people with more than 1 account and mostly everyone has more than 1

As long as I don't still need access to the email accounts I originally used to setup the passports/id's then I'm happy. Having played since beta and having 12 accounts most of the email haven't been active for years.
The payment amount is fine relative to other games and I say that despite all my accounts!

There is scenario that worries me most (my case):
I have a Passport at Microsoft that is NOT @hotmail.com
The email address associated with the Passport is NOT valid, nor do I wish to enter a valid address due to massive spam (got rid of spam by inactivating the email address)
Today everything works fine, even if email address not valid. I can login and play games, including AC.
I don't know how Turbine plans to do with Username and Password in new system. Turbine could use the same Username (ie. same as Passport login name), but I cannot imagine Turbine will get the Password from Microsoft.
So, how will I know what Username and Password will be used to login in the future, since Turbine cannot contact me at the email address associated with my Passport today.
If your answer is that I MUST HAVE a VALID email address with my Passport today, please make this very clear, and post this info on as many places as possible in GRAND CAPITALS :)
Technically I could enter a valid email address (or I hope I can since not Hotmail) to my Passport, but I try to avoid this as far as possible.

Things are sounding good .. sorry .. But I will not miss the Zone after 4 years.
Question (1) After everything settles down with the new system, is it possible to look into quanity discounts for the fans with multiple accounts? In example ..
1 account = 12.99
3 accounts = 29.99 :D
5 accounts = 39.99
etc. ...
Question (2) If email address are required (seems to me they will), can they be updated at a later date? They seems like a dum question, but after our experiance with the Zone/Passport, it only seems good to ask now. ;)

Kossuth, I asked the same question on August 2.

No Turbine employee, such as Ibn, has yet responded.
My guess is all will be fine as Turbine does not want to lose those of us who have played for 4+ years! :)

ROFL to this, sorry ;) Another case of "I do this so everybody else must do it too".
I have only one account on AC1.
The only thing I would like to see is a package for AC1 + AC2 at about $20 per month. I would resuscribe to AC2 within a breeze with this formula, as it's a very good game to play as a break from AC1, but not worth a full subscription time. Of course, the option has to include the opportunity to join an existing AC1 account with an existing AC2 account.

I'll second that suggestion made by Korrigan concerning joint AC1/AC2 accounts. :) I have only sampled AC2. And most likely would never take it on separately. But as a joint account ... (?) .. maybe

This is easy. Go to Yahoo, and make yourself half a dozen email accounts.
Go to Passport. microsoft.com and login with one of your passports
click on "Edit Profile"
Click on "I need to change this" just under your email
Change the email to one of the yahoo accounts
Confirm the change
Ignore the email account until Turbine announce they are switching to their system
Works for me ;)

Considering the rash of Zone related server outages I hope the timetable for migration is cranked up a notch. The sooner Billing/Connection is owned by TG the better. Sure I'd love another month of free level for all my mules but XP isn't the main reason I play.
If things are good enough for New clients to get billed by TG why not move us over in Nov/Dec.

how much $ will the new subscription payments be?
On purging old accounts... they should wait until after the move. My husband and I both want to reactivate our accounts but because MS needs the original account jewel box, ANd our old credit card info, AND our old mailing address... well we cannot give them all of that on the accounts. I can give them the street name and city we used to live in... I can give them the numbers on 3 jewel cases, but over the years we had bought a lot of copies of the game for friends and family (At least 5 that I can think of right now). We stopped playing when the Zone changed over, and have tried a couple times to reactivate the accounts and have just gotten very confused in the process.
We are trying one more time this month. If it does not work then we will wait for it all to move to Turbine. If they purge our old accounts we lose our characters. I desperately want my character back, as does my husband. We know they are there. We know the person that my husband is a vassel to, she says he is still very much her vassel. Anyone have any luck who was in a similar situation? This seems like it is headed to just get so frustrating once again that I give up on going back.

actualy Turbine has a lovely walk through i used, it's on their website's main page...
http://ac.turbinegames.com/index.php?page_id=174
i simply emailed MS suport with my original zone name and my original billing address if you know your original credit card number you do not need the cd key
just make a .passport account assign a zone name foryourself nickwhatever
then tell them what the old names where and bada bing your back in business.

Maybe its different from outside the US but I had to provide far more information including the cd key, though I haven't needed it for some time.
Do you know what it is like trying to find the right cd key out of 12 when using support? Not that I could find all 12 the last time I used them! I also don't use the same cc as I did 5 years ago which adds another crimp in the plans. I've also worked in 3 countries at 7 addresses as my government department rotate staff from site to site as well as sending people on secondment to other authorities. I'm awaiting the migration with a slight amount of dread and praying I only need my normal login details! :o

I hope and pray as well that we do not need the cd key or old cc info.
I imagine they are aware that with all of the account sales that have gone on in the past, they would lose a 1/3 to 1/2 of there player base if they had those requirements.
I doubt that stuff will be required.
Question: Will the new billing system allow us to use PayPal?

how much $ will the new subscription payments be?
There is no plan to change the current subscription pricing.

Very unlikely initially, but this is one of many things we are looking at for the future.

The thing that worries me about the change over in billing are inactive accounts! I know of a few players whose accounts are now inactive due to the fact they were called to active duty in Irag and if they are anything like me they couldn't find the CD case with the key on it if their lifes depended on it.
I have yet to see a clear answer on how inactive accounts will be handled and I'd hate to think that folks whose accounts have gone inactive for reasons other then quiting the game for good would have to start all over due to needing a new CD key to once agian get in the game.

Ramaham ..
I believe the correct question would be .. can they afford the "disk" space to hold onto the old inactive accounts (??).
I know I have a couple of retired accounts from the kids and may some day reactivate one of them .. till then I'll watch as to what Turbine decides on what they can afford .. :)
I have a few concerns about passport accounts, I've tried to search annoucments and such but cannot find an answer so heres my questions: :)
#1 I have heard that when the migration is started it will be initiated by emailing players. The email will be sent to the email account tied to their passport account. Is this true?
#2 If above is true I have an issue. Two of my passport accounts are tied to @home.com addresses, which has gone out of buisness and such and I have no way of recieving mail sent to them. I have read on third party message boards(vault network) that there is a way to change the e-mail account associate with a microsoft passport account. But I've heard horror stories from other players who have tried this and when they try to log into AC they recieve a "you have no AC subscription" message and then trying to rebind it b ack to their old zone name they cannot. So I am very weary of even trying to change my passport e-mail address.
#3 My 3rd account is tied to a hotmail account that has been inactive for a long time. I have heard if your passport is tied to a hotmail/passport.com address you CANNOT change the email associated with it(like I could above...) If so, would renewing the hotmail account let me recieve whatever notification that will be sent out to migrate accounts? Or will there be a way to associate it with another email address....
Hope that made sense, I don't understand what I've been told really and am just worried about losing control of my 3 accounts on the migration.

I agree. I just bought 12 more accounts about 45 days ago, and I have great notes on it, and the email addresses are still active. But on my 3 "mains" and 3 others that I use "on and off", I don't think I could get email working on half of them (some are with ISPs that aren't in existance, and at least 2 are @home.com) and as for credit card info, God only knows. I think I can lay my hands on all but 3 CD Keys, and as for my address, I've had 4 since I started playing AC.
I have a bad feeling about this. Guess we will find out in a few hours.

A question about the launcer, will we still be able to log on to multiple worlds at the same time, I know I like to have a computer buff botting for my friends on HG while i'm ripping it up on DT. Id'd like to know if this will still be possible, cuz if not it would put a major kink into the game for me atleast.

My concern is that my account is inactive at the moment. I'm doing a study abroad type deal and this school is blocking my AC ports for now and I've had to cancel my account till I get back in the states. Will innactive accounts be transferred as well? I mean, if I have to, I'll resub again when the migration happens, and just not play for that month.
Also, if what b0o said is right about emailing the address associated with the passport.... I probably won't get that either. I no longer use AOL and am not sure if the email account is even active anymore. Even if it is... I haven't checked it in months and don't ever intend to check it again. I prefer not having a real email address associated with passport.

 i do not think it is very fair that people who bought the origional AC and ACDM do not get any discounts on the new throne of destiney when we paid full price for the first two and the people who buy the new expansion pack get the first two games for free and we had to pay full price.

Who cares if you think it's fair.
Pay up or go home.
When you buy something at full price and then 2 months later you see it at the same store for %50 off,do you go running to the manager complaining how unfair life is that you had to pay full price because you wanted it now rather than waiting some time for it to go on sale?

I have a question (or two) raised by the info posted about the new launcher being active for the Turbine Store keys.
You list just about every post Win3.1 Microsoft OS *EXCEPT* Windows 2000. This is disturbing as that is what I use, and I know others use it also. So can you tell us if Windows 2000 (mines Professioanl, I know Server exsists also) is in the 'Supported' or 'UnSupported' group?
Also does the launcher just requires that IE be installed or does it actively use IE?

I do have one serious concern,
Will migration require us to have our CD code?
When AC first came out, myself and two of my nephews bought AC, one of my nephews didn't have a credit card so I paid the account, then he quit so I took over that account. Now, 'years later' he does not even have a character on this account, I replaced the two he made long ago.
I am 90% sure I don't have the CD Case for his account, and since, when we bought the games we all lived in the same house back then, I am not entirely sure I have my own CD case ( could actually be one of thiers ) Since then I have moved, as well as my nephews, neither are much on keeping things especially CD cases of anykind ( you should see the stack of ruined and scratched games and music they have hehe )
If transferring my account is ac simple as registering my hotmail/password/credit info, then I am fine, however if it is CD case... then I am in a mess.
am I okay here Ibn? or should I panic?

I simply can not imagine that Turbine would design or implement a migration tool that requires CD keys or valid email addresses.
If I was writing the requirements for it, I would start with:
1) User must successfully log into their .NET passport
2) User goes to Turbine migration web page and clicks button that says. Click here to migrate your AC account. Note: you must be logged into your .NET passport and their must be an AC account linked to this passport for the migration to take place.
3) Tool responds migration possible AC account found. Please select a user name and password.
4) Display the account information and ask if you want to correct any of the information. May require multiple pages.
5) Finally on the last page, there is a button saying complete migration.
I would not require that the email address(es), credit card information be valid. I would not require CD-ROM Keys, any of the original name, address, credit card information.
I am going to be interested in seeing if the migration tool is clean and simple as I expect.

Have to add my concerns regarding inactive e-mail account. I let mine go months ago as I too became fed up with using it and could see no reason to keep it going. :(

Just got done buying a key from Turbine Inc. (Then spending 14 minutes on hold with tech Support to confirm what I discovered through an additional 30 minutes of experimentation and tracing files and forum entries.)
I have to say I am very disappointed. Having made the switch to cable recently it is a major annoyance to have to DL and re-install the game.
Had I still been on dial-up, the next step would have been to cancel the new buy. Even with a spy-ware filled dl manager it was virtually impossible to get uncorrrupt 100+ files at 56K.
(From the billing page)
Q. Can I have accounts in both systems?
A. Yes, you can. There's no reason why you can't have one or more accounts on Turbine's billing system in addition to one or more accounts with the MSN Gaming Zone. You would use the new launcher for your Turbine Accounts, and the existing .NET Passport login for your accounts on the Zone. During migration, your Zone accounts will become Turbine Accounts.
Q. Can I download the new launcher without buying a new account?
A. Yes. The Downloads section of the Asheron's Call website has a link to the new installer. Keep in mind that this will not allow you to use the new launcher to log in to the game, you will continue to log in via the MSN Gaming Zone as you always have.
In my book, a launcher is the injection point for the software - not a complete re-install of the game itself. But then again I'm not a game design company!
I'll burn the initial DL to CD and save the DL time, but it is still a pain to have to re-install the game simply to grab the new launcher!
Please consider coding the launcher to be a patch to the existing system - rather than forcing us all to DL and re-install.
If there's tech that can't handle splitting the main game code from the launcher I can understand - however the billing launch page is ambiguous at best from my reading and seems to imply that the launcher is separate from the game (the bolded text above), and should be re-written to be more explicit. If it (the launcher) is truly integrated with the game code than please explicitly say so.
I'm glad that you are taking this issue on slowly and carefully, however remember that what appears obvious to you guys at turbine is not necessarily so to us your customers!
Thanks for letting me vent, and maybe for splitting the launcher from the game install

So my Question is like the others about EMAIL....

I'm with Blackordun when it comes to the ambiguity of Turbine's billing page when it comes to the new launcher. If its going to reguire a major download they should say so and not make it seem that you'll only need a small download if you purchase a new CD key.
Instead of saying If you already have the Asheron’s Call: Dark Majesty or Asheron’s Call 2: Fallen Kings game software, this option allows you to purchase another CD Key to start an additional account. If you are starting a new account, this option will allow you to purchase a CD Key and then be given access to an Internet address to download the game software. on the purchase page shouldn't it say you need to purchase a full install CD? Especially when there is no way for someone who is on dial-up to buy a boxed CD!
How many players are going to buy a new CD key only to find out that after spending the money the CD key is a waste because they are on dial-up and would need more then a few hours to download a 343 meg file!
I have been on hiatus from AC for a few months , I may return , but this billing migration thing brings up some issues
will my accounts be there when I try to come back?
how will this be implemented ?
if it is a simple thing like the launcher being redirected so that using my netpassport id and passwords to activate them in the new billing regime then no problem.
if there is to be a big hassle in just trying to reactivate accounts that have been in used -with breif hiatus' for IRL reasons- since AC was introduced ( one since retail, the other for a year or 2 )
then I forsee a non return to AC on a permanent basis in the future.

If the passport for the account still exists and you know the passport password - no problem. Otherwise, you have to know your zone Nickname and some other information.

such nonsense. I will try to uncheck it and type my name and password
everytime, as that seems the faster and easier way.
I know we need to do this correct and it is very important, but come on.
Well i guess i am alot more forgiving that my boss would be if i told him
i'll do it right but it may be months and months late!
I'll stay loyal to ac, as long as you guys take over your company.
After all i bet ya spent a boat load of money buying it, i think its finally
time to get this done. :o
Background, then a Question-
I am unable to play AC due to my "work" outside the country for one year. Our internet access here is barely dialup speeds and restricted from game sites. I suspended my account last March, and haven't payed since.
Now, with the billing changes, what will happen to my "unpaid" account's characters? I do plan on restarting AC when I get back to the U.S. in April 2005, but now am worried that my characters could be deleted as a part of this process. I'm betting I'm not the only one in this situation (with many of us outside the U.S. right now).
Regards,
Myll (from WE)

For those of you that have the old CD keys that don't work with the new CD key request ..
Click start, programs, microsoft games, Asherons Call .. click play, log in, at bottom of that screen, the subscription link will take you to the old subscription setup and not the new turbinebilling site .. its the only way i know of to get old accts logged in

When the billing migration is complete and totaly moved of the zone (no more ways to login to game via zone), will it be possible to reactivate accounts that where inactive at the time before/during the migraton process? For the question to be clear, lets asume you DO have the orginal CD-Key of a boxed AC DM, but the email associated with the zone account do not work anymore.
A simpler "version" of my question would be: do I have to have all those accounts that I want to play someday later, active before the migration process is over, or can any "old" account be activated also any day in the future?

So when the migration is happening we will require our cd keys?
>groans in horror< Now where to find something I have not looked at in years and may even be gone with the multiple spring cleanings etc.
I really hope turbine has not done that. If so it may finally be goodbye to AC time for us here.

I'm kinda wondering if on the new launch screen.. you'll be able to choose wether or not you can play in window mode since by the looks of it.. i wont be able to use dual log client for its window mode feature anymore.. and i prefer window'd mode too full screen..

I have a question regarding billing when we migrate our accts over that I am surprised has not been asked (at least I haven't seen it asked yet). My question is, when we migrate our accts over, will we be billed again at that time? or in 30 days after that acct is migrated? or on our normal subscription billing date? I have 3 accts, and I really don't want to have to pay the sub fee twice for each of them, so any information regarding this would be most helpful.

I just want a reassurance that I'm not going to be billed by Turbine and microswift in the same month, meaning that the zone won't have it on record by accident and bill me 12.95 plus turbine billing me for 12.95, because I'm going to be ticked if that happens. They never give the money back in a timely fashion if you're overbilled.

Just read the procedures for migration of my ACDM account from MS-Zone to Turbine...
Sorry guys/gals... I neither have nor plan to establish a Mastercard or a VISAcard. I have a Platinum Discover and a Gold Amex that I use for everything.
Having said that, unless you expand your policy to include either these two cards or some other form of recurring payment... well.. all I can say is that it has been a fun run.... and Ciao. :(

Most people have visa, and some mastercard, that's why they use those two, but i agree, they should allow other major credit cards too. If my card wasn't usable I dont think I'd be back later once it was, because I'd most likely have picked up another game in the meantime, like wow which most of my friends have gone over to
I have a question, concerning popups to notify us of when our accounts are ready to be migrated.
Will those appear to people who use drakiers to log multiple accounts/escape zone or should we make it a practice to log in once a day or so sans drakiers to see if the pop up is there?
thanks for info

Okay, here is some feedback....I had to complete the migration to log in to one of my accounts. I gave you my billing info and downloaded the patch. Now I keep getting an error message that keeps routing me back to the download page and I can't get into the game. Hopefully you won't bill my card until this is fixed.

Before I create an account with Turbine I want an answer to the following:
Unsubscribing is now on The Zone very simple, secure and works 100%. How about unsubscribing from an Turbine account? As easy done with the launcer/interface? No questions asked? Must not phone some North American customer service (at $1 per minute)? Must not send any email?
Asking because in some games its not that simple, and I would never subscribe anything over the Internet if I cannot unsubscribe without any troubles.
I got the migration window and thought oh boy oh boy! But when it asked me to log in, it didn't know my password, It keeps saying the playerID/password doesn't match. Surely you do not expect me to reregister all 7 accounts from scratch do you? If so, Bye Bye Turbine. I have loved you a long time, but what you ask is impossible for me.
Guess I'll opt out on the migration until I cannot play anymore.

Got error: The product requested was invalid.
This happened when I tried to migrate my second account. My scenario is possibly unique. I have 3 AC accounts associated with 1 passport.
I warned you guys about my scenario a month or 2 ago in a different thread, and pleaded that you make sure I was going to be able to migrate... and here we are with exactly the problem I was expecting.
I'm disappointed to say the least.

The new system just plain sucks. I wish I hadn't clicked on 'yes' 'cause now only half my accounts are capable of being in windowed mode. The entire login system you devised is a pain in the neck to manage and to top it off the splash screen is even more drab than the 'official' AC website.
You get an F-, but a Z for effort.

Zeds - I use Drakiers and got the pop up today.
Helbereth - Drakier has released a file and line of code you can edit into your launcher.ini file that will activate both windowed mode and dual logging on your client.exe file again. Only took me a minute to get it running again. Check the sticky on Drakiers forums for info.
Transition was smooth and painless, you guys did a really nice job. The actual launcher works fine, but could look a bit more flashy. A bit plain at the moment. Other then that minor thing great work.

I went thru the migration (by the way there are addresses in the USA that include "AP" for "Asia Pacific" which is NOT a state selection) and got into the game alright, except now decal does not appear at all.
Will Decal work with the new front end? I don't even understand how that could happen...

In Decal, click Options, then choose "use old injection method". It will then work with the Turbine launcher.

Big question I have...
For those in the military or retired overseas with military APO addresses, there is currently no AE or AP state selction for the billing address.
The "states" AE and AP are valid US mailing addresses.
When is this going to be fixed?

Dutton,

This system took eight+ months to design and implement....eight months that could've been spent on better content, a better engine, and a plethora of other things to keep your customers interested. Instead, you let the game wither and rot to get the rights back to a series that was already hemmoraging customers faster than any other MMO that had survived this long. Excuse after excuse was given for why it was taking so long, why the engine can't be updated...
Boy, Microsoft let you guys off easy after they realized they were losing money and looking like chumps by working with you guys, eh? You don't have the money to sustain your top-subscriber game properly, but you had the money to buy back the rights. Bet Microsoft was almost willing to pay you to take it off the Zone. For what...to make Asheron's Call 3? To make a Artifact Entertainment-style save of the franchise that can only end in disaster?
Great, your migration tech works....but what the hell is the point when other games are blowing yours out of the water as far as content, storyline, playability, PVP, and graphics. The housing numbers ingame speak for themselves. It's always one step forward and two steps backwards for Turbine.

I have to agree with Helbereth, I'm disappointed that I clicked yes to migrate. Now I have one in and one out.
In addition, I do not like the way the new launcher takes you right in to the game, it goes by so fast you cant change which world you want.

In response to Zeds (post #70).
I use Drakier's exclusively to log in and just started getting a pop-up on one of my accounts asking if I want to migrate (happens when I click "Play"). Of course I won't even consider it until I get the pop-up for both accounts.
So the answer is, you don't need to worry about logging in the "normal" crappy way just to see if you've been selected for migration.

I already gave some feedback on how a very minor problem almost blocked me from playing (http://forums.ac.turbinegames.com/showthread.php?p=165486#post165486).
I would like to add a potential problem: with the Turbine launcher, I need to enter a password every single time I switch accounts. This wasn't needed with the MSN zone launcher. I missed a couple summoned portals while switching, which is no big deal. However, there is another problem that's more worrying ( for me :) ):
Since Decal plugins can include very simple keyloggers, I never type any password while any decal DLL is in memory. I used to log in my 2 accounts and ONLY THEN start decal. This way, I never had to type a password except after a computer cold start. Keyloggers surviving a cold start on a computer monitored by an anti-virus SW are much more complicated, hence hopefully much less common than a very crude keylogger inserted as a couple of pages added to a cut & pasted plugin source.
I know this is not your job to compensate for the shortcomings of other programs. However, remember that decal did compensate for a lot of the shortcomings of AC1. Also, think of the final impact a popular plugin would have if it collected maliciously password information from all your customers. It would really be quite helpful were Turbine to add a pre-checked checkbox skipping the need to type the password. I don't think it's hard or risky to implement. After all, this is what we've had since Asheron's Call's birth.

Feedback on billing migration, hmmm. Seems to me that you really don't have a logical plan and I think what you should have done is gone by the billing information, and that would have ensured each player with multi accounts and or those paying on multi accounts for other members of the family, that they would have migrated all their accounts at the same time, instead of this one account is migrated and the rest sit and wait.
Also, I read that we'll be billed one last time from microsoft. I don't think that's fair since for example, my husband the very day he migrated he cancelled his microsoft subscription and deleted the zone and has been using only the turbine launcher. He did this because he was concerned about being double billed, and felt if he cancels his zone subscription it'll eliminate that risk. So now you're telling us the zone will bill us yet one more time and I don't see why if the subscription with them was cancelled.
Any comment?

#81) Turbine HAD to take over from MS. Therefore the system was a must. As for content, I have been extremely pleased with the Burun storyline. Alok, there is many reasons posted why they cannot update the engine, without just redoing the game.
Alok, Turbine cares more for this game than MS ever did. That can be shown with the expansion pack, advertising, upgrading of hardware. AC, because of being under MS for so long and MS controlling how the game does, it will never compete with EQ1/2, WoW, GC, etc...
As for content and storyline, I have played many games, because of AC's continueing storyline that evolves and the amount of content ingame is what keeps me playing.
#82) Check which plugins you are using. If you are using exeption and any plugin from isdx.org you need to have exception listed before any isdx plugins. I am able to switch just fine.
#86) I believe he said you maybe billed 1 more time, depending on migrate date and billing date. I myself have cancled my zone subscriptions already. I really don't think you have anything to worry about.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for migration, I have migrated both my accounts. However, I do wish I waited for Draiker to fix the dual logging. Other than that, it went smoothly and works great. Glad to be rid of the zone.

For years me and my son have been playing 2 different worlds at the same time on 2 computers. We have multiple 126+ players. After migration we can no longer play at the same time. I see nothing in the EULA that we were breaking any rules so is their a way we can set up the ports to make this work again?
Are we too done with Asherons Call? Aprox. $650 over 4 years to play the game on just one account. (I've had up to 3 accounts running but have gone down to just 1 now) I'd hate to leave but I'd think I'm not alone in this situation and you'll be loseing much more then just my $13 per month or $156 per year.

I have unsubscribed accounts as they migrate in order to avoid being double billed, since the zone clearly said it would bill me in 10 days.
Do I need to reactivate the accounts? Or are they ok as they are (dead on Zone, alive in Turbine)? This kind of detail needs to be CLEARLY SPELLED OUT to players.
I am well aware that you have said that the Zone may bill us again. But you do NOT tell us if we need to unsub from them or it will be automatic. And you do not tell us if unsubbing from them AFTER migrating will cause problems.
Thanks,

Hmm... I missed this FAQ (someone pointed it out to me)
AC:DM Migration - What will my new billing date be after I migrate my account to Turbine?
Answer/Article
Initially when you migrate your account from Microsoft Zone to the Turbine billing system your billing date will be thirty (30) days from your migration date. This will ensure that you do not get double billed by Turbine or Microsoft Zone during the migration process.
Once your account has been migrated and we receive your anniversary billing date from Microsoft and confirmation that your Zone billing account has been canceled, your Turbine billing date will be adjusted to one (1) month after you were last charged by Microsoft Zone keeping the same monthly billing anniversary date you have always had.
It seems that we don't have to unsub. I'll resub.

Todarn Slow,
Please work the issues because I can reassure you that for years I have been doing the same and continue to after migration. :)
At one time we had 5 accounts running on 4 different computers with the kids around. Presently I still have 3 accounts on three computers and am able to switch back and fourth as I need mixing the accounts to the different computers.
The proper use of a home gateway/router is important here. But it does work very well for me.

That link says subscribe, unsubscribe.. whatever. It will all be worked out. Was just what I was looking for. Thanks Ibn!
Btw, to those who say they can't change worlds... you are using a link to a server. You need to use the normal turbine launcher without the world name. When you installed it, it put a normal launcher icon on your desktop. You then chose to make one for your world. Use the normal one to make ones for multiple worlds.

I have migrated one of my 3 accounts so far. Here is my feedback.
A) I found the initial log in confusing because I couldn't see the little box I needed to check to accept the EULA. This needs to be made more prominent for those of us who are over 40 and have less than perfect vision. :(
B) I play characters on 5 different worlds. I have a villa/cottage on each one, in some cases on all 3 accounts. I make a sweep of the worlds a couple times a month to make sure my maintenance is paid. I find it very irritating  that I must re-enter my username and password each time I change worlds on the same account. This is one area where the old system was better as you didn't have to sign in and out to change worlds. If there is an option I can set to change this, I would much appreciate it.
Other than those items, I am not having any issues with the migration.

Angel Lady,
There are both documented .. and undocumented .. methods that will make that panel MUCH :) easier to use. (BTW .. I'm 50 :p )
Documented is when you go to select a world .. just under that box is a button to 'create a shortcut'.
Undocmented is a shortcut parameter that can include a password to speed up entry (not recommended where kids are around).
From there I created a bunch of shortcuts for each of my accounts/worlds and created a menu off my Start Menu to speed the process.
Now, with just a few keystrokes, I'm log into a world.
But I must admit, this is NOT  a user friendly system. The buttons are good but the documentation stinks. There is still work to be done here.

Thanks Roogon...I think I will try creating folders to put the shortcuts for each account on my desktop and save the password for each. Perhaps that will speed up the process. And yes, I knew about the shortcuts, it was the EULA screen I had trouble with at first because I didn't see the checkbox for accepting it until I had scrolled through the entire thing, and I ended up at the Turbine support page a number of times before I finally figured it out, lol. It needs to be a different color or something so it can be seen. To me, this is just another process I need to go through to play my game, a bit of an irritation and like many I just figure the EULA says pretty much what they all do and want to get past it asap. Of course, anyone who wants to play is going to agree with it. Oh well, I did ultimately figure it out. Thank you for the start menu suggestion...I use desktop icons, but will try a variation on your idea :)

AS for not seeing the greyed out box for accepting the EULA:
At least in my case you had to scroll to the end of the EULA before the box was activated (which makes it a lot easier to see).
Add a text about "reading" the whole text before moving on would be nice, I suppose using "scroll to the end of the EULA" is a wording they cannot use for some legal reason.

Ok, here goes.
The Billing Migration update was a bit confusing but managable.
You would have thought that Turbine would have been able to integrate
existing billing info directly from the zone accounts rather than having to
re-enter all that info again, but I have to admit, it went rather smoothly.
I do have one item that I am sure many AC players will also agree needs addressing. We are all used to the "Live Chat" area's of the Zone that we used to wait on patch days or days when the servers were down as a means of passing the time and sharing information or working out trades while we waited for the game to go active again. The new Turbine Client Launcher is wonderful, but I submit to you, that we should have "live chat" areas to log into during server down times to share info. It would complete the "user friendly" side of the game.
Please consider this request Turbine !
PS: When are you going to start talking to the gamer mags about the expansion packs ? When are you going to start advertising AC again so we can get the servers reloaded ? ...... AC Re-Loaded ! LoL, nice touch !

I think it went smoothly, just need to try and eliminate the License agreement, or make it tick box only, the web page that opened had no scroll bar, had to manually highlight the text till I got to the bottom, so I could move on, other than that very good at logging in.

For a paid service, Turbine should consider making serious adjustments to both the QA and release process. At this point, paid customers could be playing the game with code reverted to a known good state: every mature organization should adhere strictly to a "go" or "no go" method. In an event where changes cause disruption to customers, a "no go" procedure should be invoked to return the servers to a known good state.
Why force an update that isn't ready for production? Another consideration should be that a serious bug already impacted game play -- what else lay in wait? Delay release a few days while you get your developers & QA team in sync -- meanwhile people continue to enjoy what they are paying for.
What is hard to grasp about this concept? This is a fee for service -- don't let your short sighted focus on Wednesday being patch day force customers to bear the price of poor planning.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion about this -- but Turbine is being irreponsible with our money and time. Introduce SDLC concepts and I have a feeling your customer sat. rating with soar.
Revert the code or get the servers up... this is awful.

Well I currently have 14 accounts for Asherons Call that I keep active yes that is 14 X $12.95 per month I know that in the big picture with all the people that play it doesnt seem like much, But I do pay alot of money to Play AC. Before I retierd I was involved in Software Dev. and I know that this down time can be avoided yes Turbine might have to spend a few $$$ more that we pay them but they can put fully functioning servers up for testing patches can allow a select groupe to be Beta Testers of the patch before ever releasing it to the open public, Yes this will mean that a select few will have information about the patch before it is released but I dont see that it would be as big of an issue as we seem to have on most patch days...
But for now I will have to rate Turbine's Release of Patch's and The Migration a wooping          9 out of 10 mad Faces..

Btw: I consider this the right level of information for this sucbject, if you can't figure it out, it is not for you. But I would like to know if it can be done.

I haven't read through all 5 pages of this thread yet... has anyone mentioned how irritating it is that the launcher automatically closes itself when you launch the game, requiring you to relaunch and re-enter your password every time you log out/quit/crash?
Can you please change this or make it an option?

I have the same problem. I've tried uninstalling the launcher and reinstalling but it still takes me completely out of the game instead of to the character selection screen.

im not sure this is the right area to be in but here it goes..
ok to start i have 3 kids and two adults in the house(basically big kids :) )
and when we first started playing ac about 3-4 years ago we found out that it gave us all something to do as a family(yeah i know its kinda sad that in order to spend time together we all have to be sittin in front of a monitor ,but thats where were at) because we could all log into the same account but just not use the same servers at the same time (under the microsoft "zone" billing system). this ment that even tho were not all actually playing together we did all sit in the same room and help each other out with each others quest or information on the game or just on life, at least for a few hours a week. however now that turbine took over billing we can no longer log into the same account at the same time even if were using different servers...now this may have been a bug in the original system that you didnt intend on hsving but whatever the reason of its existence it was never dealt with and we became accustomed to it..... so i geuss what im asking is are you going to let people log into the same account at the same time like the zone did? because even tho $12.95 doesn't seem like alot it adds up after you multiply it five times. i don't pay a monthly fee for each tv in my house thats hooked up to cable, so that everyone can watch at the same time and i wont do it for this game. in any case if you could please respond i would be most appreciative!!! :)

Yet another problem stemming from your not handling my multiple account scenario.
The Zone.com billed me for Jan->Feb on 2 of my 3 accounts because you didn't deactivate/unsubscribe them as you did with my main account.
This all came from the fact that I had 3 accounts associated with 1 Passport, and I did NOT have 3 separate Passports.
Now, I could excuse the error because it's somewhat of an odd case, BUT I WARNED YOU ABOUT THIS AHEAD OF TIME.
I somehow doubt I'll get my $26 back from the Zone with any ease.
Other multi-account owners: Be SURE you check to see that your accounts are ALL disabled on the Zone, lest you be billed multiple times.

No .. I have not discovered a way to not have to press the enter for the 'next'. There may still be a parameter that could control that.
I'm still happy with just a few keystrokes to get in with. :)

Dutton,
We do not yet have an ETA for AE/AP addresses, but the team is aware of and working on this one. Your patience is most appreciated. :-)

Any update on these being fixed?

I'm happy to be off the Zone! Thanks! Fewer clicks is also good.
If the downtme weren't worse than on the zone Im sure that the migration would be wonderful.

1. Worked fine for me, thanks. Glad to be rid of the zone.
2. I'm disappointed that there is no real support for multiple accounts, such as a pull down for account names.
3. I'm also not thrilled with being dumped to the desktop when I log out, I often change worlds.
My wife and I have 14 accounts between us, so the multi account support is perhaps a bit more important to us than most.

Not just 14 accounts, but active characters on almost all servers. I'll leave you to figure out the logistics. : )
We've played since Beta and our highest character is only 108, but it's easy to see why.

Any update for those of us not in the USA but who use US Military addresses (states of AE and AP)?
It's getting down to the wire on migrating accounts and can't do it because there is no AE or AP state selection for billing address.

Well... since I run a buffbot for my clan I was waiting until Drakier came out with a new release of his dual client proggy (which is very handy dandy btw). New release out now, so I decided to migrate this weekend.
Good points:
------------
1. NO MORE ZONE. Nothing more to say there.
2. Very smooth overall. Easy to follow steps to set up Turbine accounts, migration download was small and ran nicely. Good job.
3. Links on launcher to manage account, create new ones. Handy.
4. I actually bought a couple of more CD keys and the process of shopping at the store was smooth also. True new players should find it smooth and painless.
Bad points:
-----------
1. While setting up one of my accounts I accidentally selected the wrong year for my birthday and got locked out because "According to our records you are under 13 years old." THAT was annoying. I had to use another PC to finish setting up my accounts. There's got to be a way to get out of that.
2. Like everyone else, I hate being dumped to the desktop when exiting and having to re-enter my password to change worlds.
3. As pointed out above, a drop-down list of accounts for those of use with a few would be nice.
So overall I give it a thumbs-up, with a few convenience features left out and a glitch because I made a mistake along the way. But I solve my main bad points by using Drakier's proggy - stores passwords securely (not in a lame shortcut) and has drop-down list of accounts - and on top of that get window mode and logging in on multiple accounts simultaneously. Select account, select world, one click, you're at the character selection screen. So logging out and ending up at the desktop is actually good, heh. Heck with decal you can even go right to a particular character when you log in with Drakier's.
Unfortunately though, this is another example of a third party adding functionality that should really have been done by Turbine. But I care more about results than who got them, so I'm happy.

Well, this is highly disappointing.
Now that forced migration has happened I CAN NOT migrate accounts.
The valid United States mailing address state of "AE" is not an option on the billing screen. :(
This was brought to Turbine's attention when account migration was started. It should never have been an issue. The US Military and USPS have been using AE as a valid state for nearly 10 YEARS.
As much as the game play in WoW sucks compared to AC, they got the billing right. :D
Any Administrator may send e-mail to the address listed in my profile when or if this problem is fixed; or if they have any estimated time of resolution of the problem.
Until then, Good Hunting all...

Just a side note - if you don't have a credit card with at least a dollar or two on it - you won't be able to finish migratation or play til you do.
found that out - good thing I have two cards :(

Read Ibn's posts on forced migration problems. The latest post says it is now fixed. Unfortunately it is not. I still get an error: "Asheron's Call Error" when I follow the instructions.
Doesn't seem to me that Turbine can afford to lose more customers. Hope this is resolved soon.

I have friends in Europe That cannot get into game now because Turbine does not support the Euro card which is the Europian equivilant to Visa/Mastercard. I think some homework was still needed before they forced migration on the entire client base. One of these friends was told by Turbine "sorry, you will just have to get a visa". IMHO this is not exceptable concidering this person has been a loyal AC Player/family member since before day 1. Something should be done for our European counterparts so they can partake in the new billing or allow them back in the old for the time being.

Adding up the total population of all servers gives a whopping 208 people (and dropping every few minutes) Combined with the sheer number of posts regarding problems migrating, it is probably safe to say that there are still bugs in the migration process. (I have a current zone subscription but I can not play as every time I try to migrate I get a 'problem with your credit card info' error message) This means that I and many other people who have paid can not play. This is obviously very bad for business, as people generally do not like to pay for services they can not use. Although there has to be a point at which you have to have all accounts Turbine exclusive and the zone utterly removed from the loop, I worry that there will be virtually no one left to play. I myself am seriously considering saying bah forget it I give up. I have just come back after a year break (played from beta 3 purple server till about a year ago) this evening I decided to try AC again, I fire up the ACDM quick launch play page, hit buy subscription fill in info submit and woohoo "you have successfully purchased a subscription to ACDM" Ok lets log in, but a pop up window when I hit play tells me I have to migrate my subscription to play (ok but why did the zone billing just work then, that makes no sense, why let people subscribe up to the last minute through a service you don't accept for login. Users should get the popup window when trying to access zone billing, before not after purchase) Ok lets migrate no problem, oh wait everytime I try I get credit card error, so I have just paid for a service I can't use, wow thats pretty screwy. My point being that although you have to set a cut off date it is perhaps best to let people play out their final month or partial month of subscription through the zone billing and then prompt them to migrate to Turbine instead of auto renewing through the zone, that way you avoid losing more people over the issue of I paid but I can't play. That way although they may not be able to log on (due to migration errors) at least they won't be being charged for it. This may seem basic and self evident, yet people are able to buy zone subscriptions still, I just did without any warnings or popups explaining that to play you will have to subscribe to Turbine billing (people would likely close zone billing and head over to Turbine billing). This is not an attempt at a rant in any way, after a solid year of playing nearly every mmorpg out there AC is still the king of the hill hands down, few to none can compare, I would hate to see it collapse (due to migration problems) after so many years of success and after overcoming so many issues.

First, forcing me to change my method of payment is completely unacceptable. I'm one of your best paying customers, and have been for 5 1/2 years. You will lose four accounts, which is what? $60 a month? Plus you will lose the money we'd spend on four expansion packs. That's alot of money folks. Especially when there are hundreds of customers you'll lose because of this. I'm not gonna do the math guys. That's YOUR job Turbine.
Second, refusing to integrate paypal, or create a Prepaid game card for people who do not and will not own credit cards and/or debit cards is like telling your richest customers to go stick their CD's where the sun doesn't shine. As your customer, that's how I feel right about now.
Altogether, migration would be GREAT, but, unfortunately, I don't have the choice to actually migrate because you find my form of payment unacceptable. Like telling me U.S. cash should be red instead of green.
If you can't find a way to integrate paypal, or create a prepaid game card SOON, I'd like the money back that we've invested in the past 5 1/2 years. Every single penny of it.
Superconductor

Although I do agree that a pre paid game card or perhaps accepting Paypal would be a great idea, there are likely some very good reasons why they have not implemented it. All companies like money, generally the more the better, and pre paid cards or Paypal would definately increase the subscriber base, so I do not beleive that it is without much consideration that they chose not to accept them as forms of payment.
As for the statement I want the last 5 1/2 years worth of my cash back, well I'm sure once everyone calms down a bit you will be able to see the sheer lunacy of that statement. If anything the fact that you paid and played for 5 1/2 years is a testament to the quality and long term playability of Asherons Call.
My biggest mmorpg related fear is that the problems arising from this forced migration will be the 'straw that broke the camels back', and we might lose our beloved AC due to a lack of paid subscriptions.
Now is the time we need to try and rant and lay blame less, and instead work on providing informative/objective feedback on how to best fix and overcome this issue.
Yes it is just my opinion and everyone is welcome to completely ignore it, but I do firmly beleive that if we want to see AC continue to thrive and grow then now is the time we need to voice constructive input and not just post threats and rants.

I had a very informative conversation with the owner of a large and lucrative computer sales business. I mentioned the idea of integrating Paypal into the website as there are hundreds of thousands of people who have used that as their ONLY method of payment during the last 5 1/2 years. This person told me that Paypal is one of the most expensive forms of money/currency/payment any LARGE business could possibly use. It often results in loss of money.
This is why I also suggest a prepaid game card. This brought up the fact that cards like this are most often backed by Visa or Mastercard, and like all cards, cost the business a % of their own money to keep. Say, 4% to 8% each card. However, this loss of money is far LESS than Paypal.
I am going to be contacting Paypal tomorrow, to push for a CVV code for their virtual prepaid credit card. I'm not sure how likely it will be that they'd do it but it is always worth a try.
Read my signature. It's what I stand by. If I can't get Turbine to work for me, I'll find a way to pay or they will quite simply lose me as a customer, and many others as well.
P.S. It's legally my right to claim my money back. I've already spoken to a lawyer about this (I was lucky to get a free consultation on a matter like this.) I'm not going to file a lawsuit so please don't misread me. But, there are many rights the customer has that very few people know about. This could be good news for the customers that lose their "merchandise", in this case accounts.... and could possibly be bad news and a considerable loss to Turbine. A far bigger loss than if they simply integrated Paypal or some other method of payment than that of the allmighty credit card.
That's not a threat. Simply a legal fact.

Stop talking about "right to play" or "money back" or anything such. To be able to play you have all agreed to the EULA by Turbine, that says among other things:
4. We reserve the right to terminate your license to the Software and your access to Asheron’s Call at any time, without notice, for any reason whatsoever.
Simple as that! Nothing to argue about; "... for any reason whatsoever ..." - one reason seems "if we cannot make a billing system as flexible as Microsoft did".

I am still getting issues when trying to migrate my account. It is giving me the "credit card information incorrect, servers might be having problems" message, and I have tried to migrate about 6 times now with the same message each time. Would be great if you could fix this so I can go pay my rent.

Forgive me if this has been answered, but what is the deadline for migrating accounts? I have several clan mates who said they will be back for the expansion pack, and I'm concerned that if they wait until May they won't be able to re-subscribe.

First off, crazy is right. We did sign the agreement, and as such is the case, WE do not have the RIGHT to play so much as the privelege. Besides it is not as if they were trying to stop you from playing. Complictaions come in all things in life. Most are unforseen as is this one.
It WOULD be cool if there was another way to pay. Especially for those of us who don't like paying other people to use our own money.
It's a major pain in the butt to have a credit card just to play AC.
