Quest of Teh Shiny
Teh Shiny are tiny clusters of magical fungi that occur throughout Dereth. Appropriately enough, their favorite sustenance seems to be the crystals and gems that are plentiful in this land. Normally, Teh Shiny grow in caves and on mineral veins, slowly feeding off the magical essences of these rocks.
If one were to carefully extract Teh Shiny from their natural habitat and place them in a prepared medium of powdered gems and crystals, the most spectacular display would occur. In the span of just a few seconds, the fungi digest the crushed stones and bloom into a colorful cloud of spores.
If properly contained, the spore bloom soon withers and dies, leaving behind a thick paste with unusual properties. When applied to a piece of weaponry, the paste is absorbed and infuses the item with a visible aura. The intensity and brightness of this aura seems to depend heavily on the gem medium in which Teh Shiny were placed.
Unfortunately, aside from the visual enhancements, the weapon is little improved, and sometimes applying the paste results in a catastrophic reaction where the item becomes corroded and useless. The reasons for this antagonism are not yet known, but perhaps a person with enough knowledge and skill in Item Enchantment could potentially avoid causing this outcome.
