An entity who is first mentioned in books circa -3513 PY. He is also known as the Hopeslayer, Hopebringer, and First Herald. Some have called him "The Servant". The Virindi call him the Dark Walker. Bael'Zharon was originally a Dericostian named Ilservian Palacost and was raised near Daralet after the Fall of the Dericost Ice Throne. The Dericostian citizens of Daralet were destitute and impoverished under Yalaini rule. After losing his son Avoren to starvation, he became consumed with a burning hatred for revenge against the Yalain. He and a few of his comrades that would later become his generals awakened a creature within the bowels of Auberean known as the Great Master, which transformed Ilservian into the demonic Hopeslayer--a powerful form more equipped to enact revenge against an entire race. After battling the Yalain for several years, he was finally trapped in a crystal array designed by Asheron. The array shattered into six "soul stones", which lay undiscovered until the Gelidites unearthed one at Frore. This event led to the destruction of all six stones, freeing the Hopeslayer once more to wreak revenge against his enemies. Bael'Zharon rampaged across Dereth for several weeks before his nemesis Asheron emerged from his long hermitage to face him. Asheron's battles with the creature once known as Ilservian Palacost distracted the Hopeslayer while the Isparians throughout Dereth scrambled to complete an artifact that would weaken the near invulnerable Hopeslayer. The composition of the artifact allowed Dereth's inhabitants to face Bael'Zharon in his own lair and to finally defeat him. Defeated, he descended into the Darkness, leaving only the remains of his former body behind him. He is referred to as Ilservian in the Book of Minesh, Lord Rytheran's Letter, and Asheron's Missive. He is referred to as Palacost in the Tear Stained Parchment. He is referred to as Bael'Zharon in the Minutes of the Council of Five, Lord Cambarth's Journal, the Dark Note, the Slimy Note, Lady Maila's Journal, Asheron's Decree, Meditations on the Abyss, the Brink of the Abyss, the Nexus Note, the Aerlinthe Record, the Pulsing Lump, the Amorphous Lump, Aleister's Corollary, and Aerfalle's Letter. He is also alluded to in the Ice Cave History Book, Lord Rytheran's Letter, the Fleshy Lump, the Sandy Note, the Dark Revenant Note, the Translated Dispatch, the Campaign Journal Asheron's Missive, Asheron's Second Missive, Excerpts from the Zharalim, a Tale by Sir Martine, Chapter 6: Denouement, Mnemosynes and the Art of Lockpicking, the Scrawled Note, and Insights Into the Unknown. Perhaps the most complete description of the history of Bael'Zharon can be found in the Fourth Sending of Darkness.

Bael'Zharon info. (http://ac.warcry.com/lore/encyclopedia/index.php?action=display&id=67)

And no, we'll never see the Great Master. His/Its being released would equal game over for all of us.

That's one of the best summaries I've seen Fiction! ^_^

Just one point though:

The composition of the artifact allowed Dereth's inhabitants to face Bael'Zharon in his own lair and to finally defeat him. Defeated, he descended into the Darkness, leaving only the remains of his former body behind him.

While we were able to defeat BZ, we couldn't destroy him, only fight him off... And, while I don't know much AC2 lore, I do know he'll be back ^_~

Regarding AC2: (I'm fairly certain about this, but I may be off on the hundreds of years. Could be 300, could just be a few generations.)

About 400 years from now, Bael'Zharon returns, marked by a large stream of energy coming out from the inner sea and destroying Yaraq. Ciandra collects the knowledge of the Arcanum and hides it. She also takes away the Shrine of Transcendence, which has granted her near immortality. Isparians, Tumeroks (Aun), and Lugians (Non-Gotrok/Renegade) flee to underground shelters protected by the Fettermount.

In short, BZ returns and pwns us all. Asheron and the Virindi Imperator (Aerbax?) recognize that the coming battle with Bael'Zharon will determine who will rule Dereth. Unfortunately, Geraine (His Eternal Splendor) has his own plans. He steals the menhir (the magical stone rings) and seals them away in vaults (which are quests in AC2.) Without the menhir, Asheron cannot control his powerful spells he unleashes on Bael'Zharon. The uncontained spell destroys Asheron, then BZ, then the Imperator, and then the entire world.

After a few hundred more years, we deem that the world is safe to return to and AC2 begins.

About 400 years from now

More like 100-150. When BZ returns, High Queen Elysa's great granddaughter is on the ruling council. Since Borelean isn't even close to marrying age yet, it'll be some time before she even has a grandchild, let alone a great one.

She also takes away the Shrine of Transcendence, which has granted her near immortality.

I think it was implied that she was granted near immortality by mucking with all the Shrines, including the Temples of Forgetfulness and Enlightenment. I don't think she'd even gotten the Shrine of Transcendence working before the Devastation.

Tumeroks (Aun)

Shi, actually. By that point, Hea Arantah had been defeated, and the two xutas had been reunited into the Shi tribe.
