I wondered the same thing, but in AC2 you could climb to the top of the tree. Of course, that's 250 years in the future, so perhaps the tree has grown in AC2.

Still would be nice to hear from the devs on this one.

yes, it sure is, see the local environment, look perfect! due to that Great Deru Tree is over few thousand years old, like few surviving "Redwood Giants", i believe it will colonized by tumeroks in 1-2 generations later.

Tumeroks will be able to speak with the tree spirit. somehow creating few branches to make ramp to the top to be one with the nature.

in our ACDM guidebook, on the monster list, see Deru, but we hadnt seen them yet, so i think they are somehow in the hibernations or not yet awaken.

possible a rude corruption effecting by Harbinger, but that is another story to come, i think. "The Roots of Corruption", but the seeds, leaves, and roots need to be healed and renourshment by Deru Spirit. Harbinger is gone in ac2 or sealed for good.
i think Olthoi wouldn't go near this island, some natural defenses perhaps.

I moved this thread over into the Legends and Lore forum because, at least after the patch has been out for a while this could lead to some interesting conversations.

As for the tree on Xi Ru's Island, it is what it is. As for what that means, you may have to wait a little bit. :)

DadgaSilverhand the ACDM Strategy Guide (Sybex) has quite a few creatures listed that has either recently been added in game or has yet to be introduced. I've often wondered about the Derus, but the most intriguing to me is Geraine VI ;)
(he's listed under Mu-Miyah)

There are numerous listings within the ACDM Strategy guide that are not accurate (both at launch of the XP as well as now) due AC being a living game.

Something I find odd is that from an overhead view, the building on the island (a chapel, was it?) is shaped like an arrow pointing northward to the tree. Probably a coincidence, but I couldn't help but wonder if the tree and the chapel are somehow connected as I leapt off the waterfall and stared at the shape of the rapidly approaching building.

In that strategy guide there was also a picture of the Arcane Pedestal and Ursuin Rug... Both of which were somewhere around a year later added to the game...

Course it was on the test server apparently, so that might explain something ;)

To me, this is most probably a Larchess Tree. Similar to the ones on ML and mentioned in several lore works such as the Aerlinthe Record.

As Scenario pointed out above, it probably has significance, we just aren't aware what it is yet.

I thought that at first Gryfudd, but the thing is the trees are different... and at the same time so much the same. It's confusing! The trees on ML and the New Island (NI?) both glow green in the same way... but the trees on ML are evergreens and the tree on NI is deciduous - They look like totally different types of tree... But then, they're also both enormous... Then of course there's also the fact we haven't heard NI's tree talking yet...

I'm not sure, if it's not the same as the ML trees I have no idea what it could be... I wonder if there are different breeds?

The huge tree represents a huge latency spike.

It's probably a larchess tree, like the one at Shimena Keep.

The talking trees on ML are living Elariwood.

According to Lilitha, the Tall Trees are Larchess, not Elari.

after visiting the tree and looking at the location, it certainly reminds me of the Deru tree from AC2

complete with an area to dive into later when we get diving abilities ;)

And if I remember correctly, in AC2, the tumeroks had to heal the Deru tree and perhaps thats why the pathway up it was created? ;)

Ya never know tho :p

I don't know any AC2 lore, but if the location's the same and the tree's the same then that's probably what it is ^_^

So... What's the deru tree? ^_~
