It was an effing 1on1 you ignorant jackass. If that mage started jumpspinning he didn't want to fight. I've NEVER seen anyone jumpspin in a 1on1 situation, and any melee who gets owned by a jump spinner is a retard. The few times I've played a melee I had people try to jumpspin on me, and every single time I was able to catch up to them the instant they landed and go right back to attacking. Its called watching your screen, it helps.

I will let you hit me with a melee all day long since,

a) you have to get close to hit me.
b) my damage output far exceeds yours.
c) you are not a threat and I am.

The mage did not dodge any of his swings and he did not resist even one spell. Seems fairly even to me.

If the mage went to harms/bursts/streaks he would have landed much more although for smaller gains,.... kinda like the melee did.

God I hate mages. If they ever made me a game designer for DT first thing I would do is change anyone with War Magic have permanent buttless chaps on and prance instead of run.

Stupid mages.

30-50 undodgeable damage, 100 on every crit, which is, once again, undodgeable. That damage does not suck...I wish every single one of my wars would hit for 30-50 undodgeable damage with 100 on crits. I crit for 150 5% of the time as it is, and I rarely land unless I hold my war and trick the melee...Only real way to hit a melee is to hold an arc then fastcast 2 bolts before they know whats happened. things have gotten so much better for melees/archers in the past 1 1/2 years, i don't see why people still complain. things are fairly balanced now. melees are hitting hard and it can't be dodged. jump spin does not count. a melee can hit a mage, dodge a war, then be right back on the mage. a mage can't jump spin and be ready to fight right off the bat again. jump spin = an escape technique, dodging = way of avoiding damage while still fighting. granted mages are hard to kill, but so are melees. mages don't have the option of instantly healing while avoiding damage like melees do. a mage has to heal up while being hit repeatedly by the melee. there might be slight balance issues, but they are not as bad as you make them out to be.

and yes, i'm fairly certain that somewhere a turbine employee did state that they have to worry about balancing melees around group fights. melees can't really be dodge, so in a group fight, a few melees can easily all go after one target and bring it down almost instantly. can a group of mages or archers do the same? no, because the target can run and dodge the attacks. whether you like it or not, group fights must be taken into consideration while balancing classes.

Up till june patch this was true.

melees are hitting hard and it can't be dodged. jump spin does not count. a melee can hit a mage, dodge a war, then be right back on the mage. a mage can't jump spin and be ready to fight right off the bat again.

Melees are hitting for **** damage, and mages with meleeD can just equip a meleeD wand everytime they are close to death and evade 60%-80% of all hits.

granted mages are hard to kill, but so are melees. mages don't have the option of instantly healing while avoiding damage like melees do.

Add in the new noble armor and id say the mage have to lag out to die, if he needs a cofee break just turn on eltank for a while. Melees can instant heal?????!!!! Are you kidding, melees risking dying everytime they try to heal and stay close to the mage. A mage can instant heal, not a melee. Melee have to break free of sticky (try attacking with lag without sticky, sloooow) + get in peacemode + dodge streaks/bolts/arcs. A mage just cast 1 spell.

a mage has to heal up while being hit repeatedly by the melee. there might be slight balance issues, but they are not as bad as you make them out to be.

Most good mages can slide out of charge range and break your sticky. Most people will agree its a whole lot easier for a mage to heal up, c'mon you know it too.

Those of us that are established on DT do not see an issue. Those that are starting out though have this new armor to look forward to and it is available to everybody.

If your DoT sucks so much then why wasn't he able to kill you? Because his was even lower. If you want to argue that your DoT sucks, but then admit that it is higher than his you have a logical shortcoming.

You have the ability to dodge his wars without having to invest any credits or XP. Maybe war spells should get the same pathing updates as the archers got... just so his DoT is on par with yours.

His DoT was lowered because you were able to dodge his spells my player skill alone (no dependence on in game attributes, xp or skills). That's a nice bonus to have over any opponent.

so a mage, 50 levels below the melee, is 'better' ? if it were somewhat closer I could see it but 50 levels??? so a level 50 mage is >= a level 100 melee???

I think that is the problem he is trying to address, cause using that math a level 126 mage >= a level 252 melee, seems illogical. at what point should a "fair" contest be made. if the melee is too high, he is considered a punk for attacking ppl way lower than him. and vice versa for the mage, but at 50 levels i would be one to go hey that melee is a punk for picking on that lowbie, had the banes on the shoes not gone would the mage have won?

I think I'll add my opinion here. I think that a lot of people that complain about balance issues in PK just shouldn't PK. It takes a lot of the dev's time to take a look at these things then do testing to figure out how to "balance it." If you play a sword char and can kill a mage 1 vs 1, then that means you are a pretty good PKer, or the mage sucks. Instead of moaning about how the system is broken, why not try to become better at PKing? Mages have always been the best at PKing. Think about this; if everyone was equal, how boring would PK in AC be?

Level 7 streaks. They cast so fast that there's little warning, and move so fast that even if you have superb reflexes you prolly won't dodge.

And I think they do more than 50 dmg on average too. Not sure, most mages haven't caught on to the fact that streaks are probably the best weapon they have, but I think the range is around 40-60. Conservative estimate, but it's prolly around there.

So I guess you do have what melees have, infact it's better. But still, the melee constantly loses...

Wonder why.

Streaks are a very viable form of attack, they can keep the oppenent on the defensive, and are very hard to dodge.

I have had melees laugh at two streaks in a row, ask me wtf? then die to the bolt for an answer.

Streaks as killshots are not working, cause by the time you get them to where a streak would kill them, they are behind a tree or something healing.

Streaks for me are to soften them up for the killing bolt. Two hard to dodge streaks can get a melee down to where a bolt will do them in, especially if they fail a heal.

hmmm... DaggerMan.... HMMMM....

oooo! I know! He plays a Dagger toon!

Ghetto- They updated Streaks in September (maybe August) They're actually far more efficient than Bolts/Arcs if you have high Mana C and a lot of mana. The enemy (well, a melee anyway) can't dodge them at all, they shoot fast as a fullpower swing, and they do more damage than a fullpower hit. Sure, you might have to land a powerful hit with a bolt or arc first, but the streak isn't just a rare killshot. It works.

Most people who play a melee well will tell you that in order to win, you have to be able to dodge without running far. Being able to retreat two yards and dodge the war instead of running as far as you can and strafing is the only way to win a fight. At close quarters, it's impossible to dodge a streak, and you won't have much time to adapt your strategy.

Just because you haven't adapted your strategy to meet the new ages (even though you really don't have to) doesn't mean everyone else hasn't.

Renegade Knight
12-07-2004, 07:19 PM
Streaks are quite deadly, if used right. I killed a level 70 melee on my mage, just about a hour ago, and guess what I killed him with? Streaks. Melee's have to get close to attack, and since streaks travel fast, and have barely no animation time, they're quite effective.

Yeah, it almost literally is impossible. If you are in the mage's face, the first streak WILL hit you. You would only have a chance to dodge starting with a second one if you start moving back after running in on a mage.

If a melee tries to break away after attacking a mage and unexpectedly being hit by a war spell, it is just about guaranteed that a streak immediately following the first war spell will hit the melee before they can do anything.

Strick
12-07-2004, 08:52 PM
Practice dodging streaks by fighting a group of VoD K'Nath's!

I can kill a group of them if I take out the T'ant First, that is the one that casts the vulns, like all 7 50 times, then the rest streak you to death.

Kill the T'ant first, hang way back and shoot arcs, till vulns wear off, then march in and dodge, dodge, war, war, dodge, dodge...

Never tried it with a melee, I think it would be instant death to sticky melee to one in the pack.

Virindi Clown

Haha it is. A Knath doesn't slide around and use casting exploits, though.

What I am saying is that dodging a streak when you are within attacking range of a mage with a melee usually doesn't even come to the point of skill figuring in. You are just going to be hit, plain and simple. Those things move freaking fast, come out fast, and actually may have the best tracking of any projectile attack in the game, considering the speed they move at combined with the way they target (bolts are slooooow, so that's why it sucks for them).

Dj_Viper

Ghael I am sorry, but if you're complaining about melees hitting you every time what are you doing inbetween hits? Sitting there and taking it? All you have to do is cast 1 war the the guy and he'll run, or take the hit and probably die if you know anything about "fastcasting".

Anyways, I played a low level mage and I have no problem killing lvl 170 melees, I don't know what your problem is. Melees are not meant for ganks, you're just ignorant and got so used to mages being more powerful than everyone else that you think it's supposed to be that way. I have playing my mage because it's so easy. Do you know how to move and cast at the same time? If you spin right while casting the melee will just run circles around u unable to swing due to the animation.

Melees may hit every time according to you, but they're DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU. Cast a spell at them. Mages don't need to hit every time, they can shoot across the entire radar. And as far as your streak comment goes, that just makes me laugh. Honestly, log in game or something...streak damage was raised significantly. No wonder you can't kill anyone or hit anyone, you've probably never used a streak. They have the same DoT has bolts/arcs, level up and try it.

Not come here to complain...

I've had fights that have lasted well over 30 mins. My mage against an archer. His DoT was triple mine (he did 7k total damage and I did about 2k). I won because I was skilled enough at healing and keeping him on the defensive when I got him there.

If you have a higher DoT than someone and you lose to them it's because they are better than you... get over it.

IMO I dont think mages are too overpowered as long as a melee is given the option to run, dodge , and heal. Granted in most toe to toe fights mages will win over a melee, I personally with my archer (currently lvl 82) who I use as a melee and go toe to toe with critters have killed mages over lvl 100. I imp them and then go at them with my hollow bow. Im only hitting them for about 50-60 pts of damage a shot but I hit them fast and alot. And I tend to memorize the words of the main war spell they are using on me and when I see those words come up I get ready to dodge. It takes more time overall for a mage to cast a spell and they give advanced warning in the form of their spell words , so a melee CAN dodge, or like me run circles around the mage to dodge the spell. I think its fairly well balanced. Mages may hit for more most the time, BUT they are easier to dodge and take longer to hit you. Well thats my two cents, some may think Im full of it but there it is. :)

I'm just going to assume and hope you don't play Darktide....actually there's no way you could unless you have no concept of how the weapons work. I guess this just proves how much missile defence is needed, noobs can kill anyone without missile defense. Until this issue is cleared up as well (the fact you HAVE to have missile d to fight archers) I will not be re-visiting AC.

Anyways if you don't know what i'm talking about already, don't imp your targets and then go hollow. Imperil does NOTHING for the hollow, hollow ignores all banes and lifes.....so by u imping them you're not doing anything, lol. I still can't believe you even said that.

You were lucky the mage didnt hit you hard I never once even saw an average shot in that fight. hay if mages hit me for less than 150 every time id own. Infact if mages EVER hit me for less than 150 with a level VII war id own every time.
