Uhm....help? I can't get into AC. Whenever I try to load the launcher, it'll go to the patching part, and it'll do nothing for awhile, than it'll say this..."A problem occured while patching: 0x80041012"
My friend tried sending me the newest patched client.exe, that didn't work, I saw a related post on the boards mentioning the launcher.ini, saying to try editing a line to this...
GameInstallDirectory=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Asheron's Call
which of course didn't work, just my luck. I know the launcher is new and I guess there's a bug somewhere, but this just sucks, any advice would be extremely appreciated. :(

:) Hello...........this may not help any, but the patch did go in to the "AC" program folder directly and not in to the "Patches" folder in the AC program folder, didn't it? I have Win98 and onetime the patch(glsclient.dll and selfpatch.dll) was downloaded in to the wrong folder. I discovered this by checking the dates on the patches and found that the most current patch was not downloaded in to the AC folder but in to a subfolder.
Good Luck.................
Edit: Look further down on this board for the thread: "Patch Corruption". It mentions this patch error in that thread.......maybe the final solution there might help................

I too am having this problem on my laptop. I get the corrupt Patch error.
My three other computers have patched just fine.
In fact, my laptop was working fine, with the new launcher, until this Patch (Assault).
I am running Windows XP (SP2).
I have disabled all firewalls, popup blocker, and am allowing all cookies.
I have tried removing everything AC related, re-installing and I still get the error.
I have tried copying the AC files from my working computer and I still get the same error.
I am computer literate, and have extensive computer knowledge. This one has me baffled.
What has me more baffled is that Turbine has failed to address the issue, as I see this error is posted in many places here.
When I run the migration program this is the error I get:
AC Billing Migrator install was started on 1-17-2005 at 21:00:57
No prior version of the Billing Migrator launcher was found, thus no version checks were done.
client.exe was found at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Asheron's Call
Destination directory selected was C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Asheron's Call
The install was done to the default dir.
Asheron's Call\console.exe - This shortcut was not renamed. Possibly because this install is being run a second time.
Creation of replacement Desktop Shortcut failed: Asheron's Call.
For assistance please call Turbine Support at 781-407-4010, or visit the Turbine Support website at www.support.turbinegames.com.

Maybe it is time to switch to WoW ... As of late I have had more downtime with AC than play time.

To add to this:
I have now tried doing a System Restore to one month ago ... before I even had the new Migration software. I am still getting the same error.

 Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I'm having the same exact problem. I was ignoring it due to the fact I could log in the "old AC" way. Now Zone tells me I have no subscription..which I knew was going to happen. Now I can't get in either way.
Someone lay the information smak down on me/us please! :(

OK, I started the Corrupted Patch thread, and I *think* the problem is, the patch files are still in the patching folder when you copy the working files from another computer. What I did was remove all files dated from the date of the patch, in the "Patches" AND "Forward" directories, and replaced the client.exe, the .dll, and the launcher.ini (even though they were exactly the same on both machines), and then rebooted. The problem went away, and I have been able to login and play since.
My theory is, the issues with the authentication server caused the patch to be incompletely downloaded/installed, which means corruption to the system. The presence of the patched files then causes the game to try to patch, which does not good, and removing the patches to re-download was totally ineffective in my case. I even tried removing all the downloaded files, and replacing the patched versions with versions from the "Backup" directory without success.
I am at work now, but will check this when I get home, since it was only three files, and I am not sure you need to monkey with all three.
Additional thoughts:
I suppose it would help if there were a rollback option in the patches, so when/if this happened, we could return to the last state, and try again. Just a thought.
I just checked my laptop, which I use when on the road, and the only files which I had to modify were the client.exe and the launcher.ini. The portal.dat and cell.dat, as well as the glsclient, patchclient, selfpatch, etc, were all updated on the day I migrated, and were NOT modified by the patch. Try deleting the patch files from the Forward and Patches directories, and replace the client.exe.

Well I am truly baffled now ...
I have taken my laptop to work and have been able to successfully Patch.
My home connection has 4 computers running, all of which have the new AC Launcher working fine. I tried swapping the internet connections from all comps to my laptop in case that was the issue, I tried bypassing the router altogether, to no avail.
Work is actually behind much more security than I am at home.
The question still remains ... where the heck is Turbine on this issue. They have yet to even acknowledge the problem, much less offer up a solution to those that are stuck out of game.
There is NO WAY that any of us should have to be messing around with registries, copying or moving files.

Well I've messed with this thing for way too long now. I've had a love/hate relationship with AC for 5 years now and I'm lucky i'm in the hate portion this time.
I did notice however that the "Forward" folder has the same file in it as the "AC" folder does. Only difference is that the forward folders file is 0kb in size. I know that makes no difference but just seemed odd to me.
Ugh...the one patch with potential and thad gets locked out by the games own "New improved launcher".
Anyone want to play solitaire? :p

Still no word about this most annoying problem eh? I heard that this might be an XP thing?..no idea how to fix that though. I shouldn't have migrated. This is about as easy as a root canal. I don't feel comfortable futzing around in the AC folder. I wouldn't know what to delete/move/alter anyhow.
I will give all I have for a solution.
Thanks
ACless yours...Thad
This can sometimes happen if your Cable or DSL modem and or router caches information from the patch servers.
To resolve this issue please follow these steps to Power Cycle your modem and router.
1. Unplug the power from the Modem and Router for 30 seconds
2. Plug the Modem back in and wait for it to synchronize its connection
3. Plug the Router back and let it go through its diagnostics
4. Connect to the world you were having trouble with
If you are using dial-up, try using a different dial-in number which will also help toy resolve the problem.

Glad to see Turbine finally offering up a solution. Let's hope it works.
BTW: Turbine, you may wish to have this info posted on your Help page.

I suppose I could be completely wrong here, but what exactly does a Cable or DSL modem cache, or a router for that matter?
I have never seen a cable modem with a cache, unless you include the ARP table. Every cable modem and router I have ever worked with simply forwards packets from one side to the other (firewall, NAT or ACL allowing it of course)
Trying a different dialup number if your using dialup? I'm not sure if I should even start on what that might or might not accomplish.. In most places, that won't change anything other than your IP. You'll most likely still be dialing into the same hardware.

 Well that worked about as well as could be expected. The very same message. This is not a DSL or dialup problem. This is the new login problem. The launcher is the problem. Is it true the only people having this problem are XP users? If they don't know then they should just say "We don't know". The first word we hear about this problem is "Restart your modem" is just plain silly. It works fine with Windows 98 and I did nothing different with XP. It plainly wont work.
It stops right when it says "Checking for data updates". I also noticed there is not only one 0x80041012 error but 2 on top of eachother. I doubt that matters but I found it odd to give 2 of the same error.
Do you have any software firewalls installed on your computer or anti-virus running? If you do which one(s) do you have?
This error code is state there is a problem downloading the patch file or if part of it was downloaded, it was being corrupted.
Try patching without the firewall and anti-virus software on to try and resolve the problem. You will also want to make sure the patching ports UDP 2008-2010 and TCP 8081 are open on any NAT routers or modems you may have.

I am using Windows XP Pro(SP2) fully updated on DSL and have not had one problem with migrating and using both my accounts. I would suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling it. You might want to also scan for adware and spyware. 2 good tools can be downloaded from www.download.com called "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and "Spybot Search & Destroy"
Also, is your account an admin or restricted account. If it is restricted, you need to install it as an admin.
Also, I do not mean to come across as rude or anything, but read the forum info at the top. This is by no means the primary mode of technical help. This is more for players helping players and the 2 of the techs to browse the forums and help from time to time. It is highly suggested if you have continueing problems to use http://www.fuzeqna.com/asheronscall/consumer/search.asp
and submit your problems through that or call their technical support helpline.

I do not know, but suspect, it is primarily the XP users who are having this issue. Generally, it sounds like a firewall/download issue, but the difficulty now of accessing the desktop while the game is loading is adding to the issue. Also, XP tends to NOT let you remove/rename/replace files. MegaHard thinks everyone too stupid to actually control their computers.
If you uninstall/re-install, do not forget to remove all of the AC directories, and any files downloaded. The system will find them, and nothing will change.

Just another reminder that more people each week come up with this problem just to be turned away and redirected to "The REAL" tech support. This is a "players helping players" technical issues area not to be confused with "Turbine helping players" area. See...if you have a real problem you go elsewhere but if your mouse wont work or your desktop is too small then you come here.
