At the height of their power, the Empyrean knew of 14 different schools of magic. What all of these schools are still remains a mystery. From my research, I have found the following schools:
Heiromancy War Magic School of the Arm
Life Magic School of the Heart
Item Magic School of the Right Hand
Creature Magic School of the Left Hand
Demiurgy
Geomancy
Elemental Magic
Blood Magic
Illusion magic School of Ignae Fatae
The Empyrean could have possibly split Item magic into two categories, planar magic and object enchantment, for a total of 10 schools. As another possiblity, Elemental magic could have been split into four (one for each element) for a total of 13.
Anyone know of any others?

The Yalaini probably had a school of light magic. There is a school for making things like golems too I think...

Umm, ever been to Knorr?
Each collegium there is dedicated to each school
there are 12 schools listed there, and the art of golem making, which is one of the undefined ones on your list, would be a 13th.
probably some sort of darker blood magic might compose a 14th school.
if you recall in one of the teasers, The warden of knorr briefed asheron on 2 portals that had been destroyed. He was about to name them, but Asheron cuts him off...
One would assume that maybe the bugs didnt destroy those 2, but asheron might have.

Golem making *is* Demiurgy :p

Doubtful. The Northern Church wiped out the Adjanite Order just because they were loosely based on Falatacot teachings. There's no way they'd allow full-on Blood Magic to exist in any form in the Empire, let alone be researched and taught.

Ah, thank you Nexus-Hg. Yes I have been to Knorr, but it was quite some time ago. Looks like its time I make another trip.

Here are the schools found at Knorr:
Known
Entropica - Entropy Magic
Ignae Fatea - Illusion Magic
Planar Abstraction - Portal Magic
Heiromancy - War Magic
Artificae - Item Magic
Geomancy
Unknown
Conjurae - Elemental Magic?
Prae Auspi - Creature Magic?
Aegis Medi - Life Magic?
Acumen Manim
Organis - Blood Magic?
Tempae Inrectae
Add Demiurgy to the list (probably one of the portals that were destroyed) and we have 13 total. I have a feeling Blood Magic isn't in the list of unknowns. Seeing as how Aegis usually means protection of some sort, I would guess that Aegis Medi is Life Protection magics, and Organis is the healing branch of Life Magic. Blood Magic would then be the 14th school (which might explain why Asheron interupted Arikas when the guardian was about to tell him which schools had been destroyed).
Still not sure what Acumen Manim or Tempae Irectae mean, or if any of those in the unknown section are correct.

Organis is probably life magic. Organic = living.

This is what I had thought at first, but then what would Aegis Medi be? The only protection magic I know of is that small part that is used by life magic. Organis could not possibly cover all of life magic as we know it. Or could it? Did the Empyrean know some other form of protection magic that we dont know about?
Interestingly enough, with the number of combinations of Emyrean Schools to make Isparian Schools, it would seem that we actually know more than 4 schools of magic.
Granted, the Empyrean had much more knowledge of these arts than we do. The school of Planar Abstraction for example did not only deal with portal magic as we know it. The Empyrean knew how to create fixed portals as well as manipulate them. And that probably only scratches the surface. With the wealth of knowledge they had, a school seperate from item magic was undoubtedly needed.
Looking at the unknowns again,
Acumen Manim: acumen means insight or expertise and manim could be manipulation? (sounds more like creature magic than Prae Auspi does)
Tempae Inrectae: tempae looks like tempest or temporal, so either time travel (seriously doubt that one) or weather control?
Conjurae: obviously linked to conjuration, but that could mean anything.
On a side note, would be nice if the Arcanum got cracking and learned some higher level magics. :D
15 years on this planet and we still only know the same schools we started with!

Please remember also that as Gaerlan and Asheron have both pointed out, our "primitive" minds merely compiled the basic knowledge to form our 4 schools.
I would venture to guess that the portal devices, spell gems, healing skill, alchemy, arcane lore, and other things compose small parts of other schools.
Also, what in the world is Asheron doing these days with that Burun that went to kill him?
Have they been talking, drinking tea, and eating wasps for the last few months from where we left them last?

Acumen Manim: acumen means insight or expertise and manim could be manipulation?
Could this be seeing or predicting future events?

Could be "manim" is a play on either "animus" (spirit) or "mana" as well. That would have different connotations, such as pure mana magic.
And they were all useless against the bugs.

Olthoi have a natural resistance to higher magics. Notice that Olthoi plate is unenchantable? When led by their queen, they have a few nasty tricks they can pull on a civilization entirely dependent on magic.
