My problem was that though all software was correct, my modem wasn't communicating correctly because several ports needed to play ACDM are considered "insecure" by my ISP.
In fact numerous internet games require that ports be opened.
To go about this here are lamens directions.
Call your internet service provider, ask them how to go about "port forwarding". They are the only ones who can do it! Once you've got this figured out you need to know which ports to open. I found a document (somewhere?) listing them, & it fixed my problem.
Don't feel bad. I've been on computers for More than 20 yrs & this was the last thing that occured to me and the 8 people I conntacted in 3 countries over the last 14 hours.
So below is a copy of those Ports, Note : This wasn't my idea, just passing the wisdom along :)

Apparently most modems just haven't been configured to fit game perrameters and need a tweek.
