View Full Version : == ToD Pre-Order NOT Available in Canada ==

It appears that we here in the Great White North are unable to pre-order Throne of Destiny without paying huge shipping fees.

The Canadian websites do not have AC ToD listed;

Amazon
Best Buy
EB Canada (does not have a website)

The US websites charge $14.99US for shipping plus duty.

Amazon (says will not ship to Canada)
Best Buy
Game Stop
EB Games
CompUSA

This is complete and utter BS !!! Why should Canadians not be entitled to the same bonuses as the people in the US? And why should we pay 50% more for the game?

All jokes aboot Canadians aside eh.

I would like a serious answer from IBN.

I got no reply to this in the TOD forums.

I will not be pre-ordering if I am not 100% guarenteed the gems and I will not be pre-ordering from a site that charges me in american dollars and ships from the states over charging me on shipping.

If it makes you feel any better:

Compusmart (http://www.compusmart.com/Product/Default.aspx?SearchSubmitted=True&SearchString=throne%20of%20destiny&SupplierPartNo=789036)

Not listed on the Future Shop (which is owned by Best Buy I think) site either, but I was told someone at Compusmart was trying to look into the Preorder bonus stuff.

I've been in contact with Compusmart, they have said that they are trying to get in touch with Turbine to get the special pre-order offer but Turbine is ignoring them.

I have only seen it available via the web in three places, but there is still plenty of time before it actually released.

GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646128)
Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007PFI46/qid=1107892279/sr=8-7/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl65/102-5380433-7810507?v=glance&s=software&n=507846)
Electronics Boutique (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/255919.asp)

It isn't like US players have a huge line of choices at the moment, either. :p

US players can order online in US Funds and get free shipping within the continental US. With their pre-order they get the bonuses (gems etc.)

The rest of the world is S* outta luck.

It's not available in Britain either. Jessica has spoken hesitantly of distribution deals "in the pipeline" but without assurance that non-US players will be eligible for the bonus gems. The bonus gem is a poor idea in its current form, but with the degree of unbalance it's destined to create between the haves and the have nots, particularly in PvP, it will be a nigh requisite feature of an AC account. Non-US players stand to be disenfranchised for the sake of a cheap marketing trick.

I can't help but think necessary a greater degree of assiduity in keeping the playerbase abrest of developments in this matter and others of similar importance.

The clock is counting down to release. Another week or so of silence and increasing frustration will lead many non-US players, myself included, to give serious consideration to whether it's worth keeping up a subscription to the game.

Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Yeah, a preorder, downloadable copy of the game with the necessary CD key would have been a good step in the right direction for Turbine on this whole issue.

I think when we told them they needed to get shelf presence to get new people, it went to their heads and thought their existing playerbase wouldn't want to download their copy.

Fortunately, being in the US, I already preordered mine from GameStop. But I feel for you, my international bretheren.

Have to agree with this also.

I even offered an Aussie pizza to Jessica to get in on beta, but no answer was the deafening reply :D

If, as the date for Pre-orders draw closer, it becomes apparent that my Friend and Monarch in England is unable to get a "Pre-Order" copy, I will simply go to my local BestBuy here in the US and order 7 copies, not the 5 I need to now, and send 2 to him...

I do this because he is my friend...

If My Friend in Puerto Rico has a simular issue, I will order 8...

While it would be better that all folks in the world that play AC could take advantage of the pre-order bonus, it's not insurmountable if they can't... just as long as they have friends that can.

know if you are going to get the gems? I don't like EB but I would go up to the mall and preorder two copies IF I knew I was getting the pre-order gems.

Have you read this?

http://forums.ac.turbinegames.com/showthread.php?t=19294

We received confirmation today on the first list of Pre-Order retailers for North America. These are the stores that you can pre-order from to ensure that you receive both bonus gift gems (discussed in Jessica's Letter):

CompUSA
Best Buy
EB & EB Canada
GameStop

We expect that other retailers will sign on to the program in the future, but for now the above list are the ones we are sure of.

If you have pre-ordered the game from a different retailer, we can't at this time guarantee that you will receive the bonus gift gems.

We will be posting information regarding Pre-Order retailers outside North America in the near future.

Sony is in charge of distrubution I believe, probably because of thier already established rather large international network when dealing with such issues.

Here is an idea for Turbine to consider.

Sony have the distribution rights, to me, it makes sense to have station.com have the preorder rights also.

That would solve the international problem in one easy step.

The only information we have regarding pre-orders can be found here (http://forums.ac.turbinegames.com/showthread.php?t=19294) and here (http://forums.ac.turbinegames.com/showthread.php?&postid=181724#post181724). I imagine we will post an announcement once we work out all the details.

In the meantime, your patience is appreciated! :-)

Proudcdn,

From what I've read, EB Canada carries the game for pre-order.

Because a third party game store charges you $14.99 for shipping isn't Turbine's problem. You would pay the same if you ordered a DVD, book, or a toilet brush from a US company. The reason why you might not be "entitled" to free shipping is because you chose to play a game made and distributed by a US company. Some day when I chose to play a game by a Canadian developer, I can expect to pay extra shipping.

Sometimes I think some Canadians forget that there's a border.

I can get any product except the TOD preorder from a Canadian retailer that doesn't charge me that much for shipping if at all. (ebgames.ca is just a LOGO and link to the american site)
