Where to being with the problems it presented. For 1, there is only 1 grahpics setting (800X600) in which the chat text is even readable. At all other sizes the font appears so amazingly small that I seriously had to basicly put my face up against the screen to read it. This problem of course would not be bothersome if you all had not REMOVED THE FONT COMMAND!
When you all said the new UI would allow the keymap to be edited from within the game I was kind of looking forward to it. But the fact that you have to LOG OUT before it takes effect really eliminates the purpose of being able to edit the keymap in game.
The background of the paper doll is now black. And im sure it looked good in theory and all, but my toon wears black covy armor. And with this new black background, it makes my paper doll appear as if parts of his body are simply invisable on the background.
About the only improvements I can see with the UI is the expandable chat box, the smooth movement radar, and the new map provided.

Whats funny with the key maping is it has always been like that even with AC and DM no change there. And i hope they make the graphics setting screen size get bigger than 800x600 i need 1200+
We're looking at what we can do to improve the font situation. Unfortunately it was not possible to make the old @font command compatible with the new UI system.
The keymap issue is a bug that was resolved just this week -- it should be fixed in the next build of the preview, which should go live on Destiny next week.
I'll have a list of known bugs and other changes live tomorrow.

That's why we call it a preview :o
I would like to get in but I understand. I do have a question though, When downloading to 2 computers file planet gives me the same key to use...This won't work for 2 accounts will it? So, how do I get another key for my 2nd account?

Register another account on FilePlanet and you can get a second key.

So am I understanding this correctly?
The font is stuck (ie NO OPTIONS CURRENTLY FOR CHANGING IT) in an impossibly small size and that no one in a lead role during the making of the UI pointed out and said, ' Umm no, rework that its too damn small to see'.
/e sighs
 Tsk Tsk, if this is true this speaks volumes.

The tiny font size is a major issue that needs to be addressed.

Well I have to agree.

Screw the font size issue. I can play in a lower res.
I'm a mage. I simply will not play without ctrl-delete and ctrl-pgdn functioning like they're supposed to (first and last spell in spellbar, respectivly). ctrl-insert and -pgup too while we're at it.
after playing for a few hours ( I am not thru giving it a chance yet , but I am tempted to be)
I have to say that this is one very disappointing preview
the UI is horrid , the font is too small to read unless I got to a low res
with my comnputer there should be NO problem running the level of graphics shown in the preview , yet there is horrid lag and the action is skippy
the cursor cannot/doesnot click target on mouseover well and even when you are standing on top of the critter it can refuse to target
if more than a very few peple get together ---LAG-- old school game killing lag
the graphics frankly arent improved enough to warrant any high praise even at the highest setting( I never had too much of a problem with the graphics we had already anyway)
summing it up --I will continue to test it for a few days hoping for a turn around
as of right now , I am very glad I cancelled preorder and I will not play the game with this set up unless there is something that convinces me in the next few days
I AM POed that we missed a half a year of uodates for this , it is not even out of beta as far as I am concerned, and this should have nbeeen release material with the delays in launching the x pack

Well unless you guys find a way to increase font size, there is no way i'm gonna buy that expansion. I only played 20 min last night and i got an headache.
Another thing i find annoying is the graphic skipping. I get very good FPS even with all details to full, i get around 40 fps. Then each time i start running the game froze for 2-3 sec each time something new is drawn by the engine.
It is unnaceptable performance for my 3000+ Athlon, 2Go of RAM, 9800 Pro.

Hmm. I think the graphics are great.
The UI font is a bit small but perhaps you need glasses if you honestly can't read it except by lowering the resolution.
LOL , perhaps I am already wearing newly preascribed lenses and still can't read it , it is too small and your little jab means nothing.
the graphics are far below WoW /EQ2 standards and on my computer I have dual logged( on WoW) at the AH in Ironforge at peaktime with zero lag or stutter. there is no excuse for the piddling performance in the preview
Sorry! The administrator has specified that users can only post one message every 360 seconds.
and again with this ,the most idiotic post time rule I have ever encountered on a forum of any type

My forty year old eyes have no problem reading the font on max resolution.
WOW?? EQ2? Have you not read on of the stuff leading up to this release?? Of course they are not going to be up to current graphical standards. They said that there would be an increase in polygons by about a factor of 4. That is nowhere close to WoW or EQ2. Bottom line is that they are "improved". Can't expect much more out of an 8 year old game.
Get a grip.

I would like to submit your name MVOF as in contention for the official crybaby peepants poster of the day.
good luck, im rootin for ya !
kala
well my 45 year old eyes and a lot of other peoples cannot read the TOO SMALL font . if I were the only one saying that I couldnt read it then you might have a case.
and you missed the point
I have used this same computer to run 2 clients at once on a game that has higher graphics than this one in a densly populated area (hundreds of people)
and had smoother performance that in the preview , with lesser graphics and one client and nowhere near the amount of people
I didnt expect WoW or EQ2 graphics , I do expect smoother performance considering that the graphics are nowhere near those
clue getting should be your goal
*****edit*****
and people complaining or listing problems with the x pack are not whiners , they are trying to get the x pack to be a decent product that will revive AC
I would much rather have had no problems and smooth sailing , specially considering that we have had 6 months of no updates and the release has been delayed.

I point out the previews flaws because I have a desire for the expansion to be successful. Sure I could keep my mouth shut about what bothers me in this open preview, but id rather give feedback to the dev's and community as to my opinion of the preview softwares condition. I mean, that is the entire point of having an open preview, so the remaining flaws can be pointed out and fixed before the game goes retail. So if you want to taunt me for performing my duty as a loyal turbine customer, then go right ahead... but it certainly wont be my fault if any inconveniances are released in retail without a prior heads-up to the devs.

Looks like you are the one who needs to get a grip. Zeds is not saying that he expected WoW or EQ2 graphics. Zed knows that ToD has worse graphics than WoW or EQ2 and he is ok with that. What he is not OK with is the fact that ToD performance is much, much worse than WoW or EQ2 even though ToD has worse graphics than WoW or EQ2.

First of all when I click on the Radar items like monster blips its not as easy to get a target from it. It seems to have a smaller cone of selection or something and compared to the Old AC its too small.
Second is the Select Closest Compass Item doesn't seem to target NPC's anymore and I did like that in the Old UI.
Fonts at 800x600 are fine but I do beleive it gets rediculous at anything higher :)

Just a point on the font IBN, we need to be able to make it bigger as for some of us our eyesight isnt always what it use to be... ideally I'd like to be able to change it to a sans serif font to make it easier to read.

The font isn't too bad for me... it is small but it's bearable. It would be much nicer if it were a tad bit bigger, I do find myself hunching over the screen on occassion.
And for the record Zed, this is a beta. It has not been released yet and it won't be until July. They are still updating and fixing and fine tuning. The Open Preview just means that they have sent the disk out to publishing. Between now and then they will STILL work on ToD and improve it and release the things that didn't make it to disk in the patch the day it goes live.
The graphics are a real pain though. I was running through a dungeon and it was getting choppy on me. Granted my GPU is mobile but it runs AC2 no problem.
There is still some fine tuning left to do but it seems like we're talking mostly polish, not so much the nitty gritty. All things considered, I think that it's doing well. SWG for instance is still in Beta =).

I find it utterly unplayable. Nothing about the UI is an improvement. The graphics look better but at the cost of stability and control. I can't see the text even with reading glasses on unless I am 6 inches from monitor. I will stick with the current worlds till July 18. If at that time I don't enjoy the game every bit as much or more than I did before patching then I am done with AC for now.

Well... I am a loyal fan of AC but facts are facts... Why be optimistic when its rediculous to be optimistic.
Facts are this:
UI is messed up
Fonts are rediculous
the memory usage and stability of the graphics engine is rediculous IE: (BSOD's, Very big slow downs, Freezes, warm boots) read around people are reporting these problems left and right. The game takes up way to much resources... There might be memory leaks and all in all its just plain buggy.
The biggest thing about AC is to be able to play smooth if you dont have that all the good game play and fast action will be so annoyed by the system problems.
Ibn here is what I suggest you suggest to your team and if you dont listen to me you all will loose:
You need to either:
A: Fix all the problems listed above with an update before release.
B: Fix as much of it as you can figure out between now and release and make the old client for people that purchased expansion do the Gems and access the new areas or what not and give the user the choice which client (old or new) they want to use. (personally I think this should happen anyway for those with really old computers.)
--------------------------
In all honesty if you dont do one of these two things it will be a utter failure you have had your time and I want AC to last but with this it will NOT LAST!
I for one will take the old client and the new content any day over the headaches that I forsee if these issues are not addressed by release.
thats my concrete 2 cents... and if you wanna keep getting our cents I suggest you listen.....
As for AC im a big fan always have been but my game is about to die and I am here to do my best to keep that from happening.
