Same issue here, black screen and disconnect. I think it's a port issue? Someone said copy some file from the original AC dir to the ToD one... EXCEPT I DON'T HAVE AC

After I defined the ac executables in zonealarm as allowed I was able to get to character creation screen.
I'm able to create a character and enter the game, but when I appear in the starter room after the portal swirl, my character looks loke a pink ghosty figure. I cannot more at all or iteract with objects. I'm only able to turn the camera. After a while I get disconnected.

I had that it was my firewall turn it off game plays fine. Turn it on and it wont play. The problem is your firewall halts the program waiting for you to tell it its ok for the connection to happen but you can't alt tab or Ctrl+alt+del or window key out of ac and back to your desktop to give it the ok. I only found this out because I took a shot of my screen after I alt tab and waited to for the firewall to time out and put it into paint.

Opened my ports still didn't fix it. turned off firewall got ingame and toggle back and turned on firewall hit yes to connection but I locked up after another few mins ingame and when I tryed to log back in still same black screen and mouse.

Same thing has been happening to me. I get to the connection screen and shortly after that I lose my connection. I've tried turning off my firewall, but it still does the same thing. Not sure what else to try...

I have a feeling the free preview is going to end before I'm even able to log in.

OK Guys and Gals, I am able to play. What i had to do was disable my Norton internet security completly and now i can play.....give it a try and see what happens :)

I've already disabled anything I have that would prevent me from connecting to AC. Including my firewall and antivirus, and still nothing. I'm running out of ideas, and it doesn't seem like I'll be playing soon.

Same here - going to stick to AC2. At least with ac2 I don't run into ElTank and need Decal/NerfusBufus, etc.

try going from the desktop to start......run.....diadx......that will put you in your directx menu....make sure you have directx 9 installed and then check your video config.
My directx was crashing last night, but it got to late to check it.
That may help, not sure.....just don't change anything your unsure about

It's not crashing that's happening. I get to the update screen, and it says I'm connected, then after about 30 seconds it pops to a screen saying I've lose my connection with a button to exit the game. And it's not a firewall that's causing this, at least, not as far as I know.

I have also tried disabling the personal firewall with no help to the situation.
Sometimes I don't even get the portal swirl when trying to enter world, only black screen. If I get the swirl, I appear as a pink ghost in the starter soom as I was still in portal.
I am only able to turn the camera, not move or interact with the wold anyhow. After maybe a minute I get message that I was disconnected from the server.
So no ToD for me.

Edit: Tried disabling firewall from my router and my personal firewall and the problem persists. So it's not a firewall issue.

P.S. I'm able to play AC2 without any problems and my machine works perfectly network wise all the time.

Well, I am having the same issue it gets to the connect screen sits there abit and then says lost connection to server and game just closes. I tried everything people stated on here and that does not solve the problem there has to be something else wrong with this client, you should not have to go thru all these steps to access the game.

I've tried everything I'm gonna bother to try. Unless someone comes up with a way to get by this, I'm not going to worry about it.

It has to be a port. I don't have any firewalls or anti-virus stuff but I am on a LAN. They have to be using some wierd port number or don't have it set to automatically find one. Gooooo Turbine

This is caused by port issues. I was having problems then noticed my DHCP server had changed my DMZ to 102. when my IP oni the AC machine was 100. I switched the DMZ to 102 and the game loaded without a problem.

I wish I knew what port it was using though.

Yeah... I really don't feel like opening all my ports for this game...

Do you have an good enough graphics card?

This used to happen to me when I tried to get Counter-Strike: Source to work - my graphics card was crud. I had to buy a new one.

Mine is Gainward GeForce FX 5900 128M Golden Sample and it runs for example AC2 with almost full everything on, so I'd say it's not the display adapter.

Nope, I have only an ADSL modem attached to my machine curretnly and I have disables ZoneAlarm and the builtin firewall from the modem, so there should be nothing preventing the traffic between my client and the servers.
I still get disconnected after about a minute. Black screen also appears sometimes, sometimes I appear in the world as I was still portaling but get disconnected after a minute.

Found this in another thread. I had to open all of these ports (which is just lame). I don't know what I was expecting but wow this game is old. :P Uninstalling now.

Here are the IP's and the corresponding ports that need to be open
for each function:

Auth server: 12.130.26.149 UDP 5001-5002
Patch server: 12.130.26.151 UDP 2008-2010 2100-2150 TCP 8081
Game servers: 12.123.18.0/24 and 12.130.26.0/24 UDP 9000-9013

I would normally open up all those ports to play, but I figure if the game has already given me this much trouble, then maybe I don't want to play it.
