View Full Version : Nasty client side lag.

First thing's first, forgive me if this has been asked and answered before. I looked and didn't see it. I'm assuming it's been discussed already and wanted to check before submitting a bug report.

I've been getting nasty client-side lag, where the 3D display hangs for 5-15 seconds (mouse still moves) but when it comes back you know the game kept going server-side (kept running, fighting, etc).

It happens just about anywhere but more frequently in and near towns. It's happened in Rithwic with zero other people around, around Yaraq, always happens outside the large structure in Sanamar that holds the Torture Chamber portal (when you approach it on the road from town). It has happened out in the wild without any significant number of creature or geography and zero other players.

Has this issue been mentioned before and a cause, fix or /work-around mentioned?

I don't think my system is the problem, either in configuration or capability.

GeForce6 6800GT 256MB
1gig system
P4 3.2GHz
W2K

I'm running NVIDIA 66.93 instead of the latest drivers as AC:DM doesn't play well with the 77.xx releases.

Thanks for any info.

I have this problem too and at the same place. When heading to the Great Hall in Sanamar, when I get to the last tower, I freeze, then a few seconds later, my character is up against the wall of the Hall. It's extremely annoying. It happens often all over, but that one spot, it always happens.

At least I'm in good company :p

What video drivers are you running?

Bleh - I thought I was the only one who was getting this.

When I portal to the lifestone my screen goes black and takes a few seconds to go thru. And like Maggie said, I lag to the walls in Samanar.

I was thinking to myself "how the heck are those PKs fight in Sanamar?" with all that client-lag.

My ping is great though - I wish they would move all the original servers to Boston :)

I downloaded the newest NVIDIA Drivers last week.

Ok, that's not it. I was hesitant to change drivers for a beta and now I know I don't need to.

Though it sucks a simple driver update wouldn't resolve it.

i also tried to play in isolated place, attempting to test run thru Hill Citadel.

i even cant play to it's fully potiental play style.

i get my mouse locked as hourglass cursor instead revert back to pointer or hand.
i had to wait 2-3 mins for chest to get full display, but i lost several sik keys as each timer "expired" and pulled nothing but it just eating up my keys.

i cant even loot the corpse, spawns reappeared in 1-2 mins, and now i have corpse carpet of lugains.

also i hate slow "targeting" took me 30-40 secs to get lock on new target and i keep getting waves of new spawns, i wasnt making any progress to move, it was so thick wall of lugians trying to get a piece of me.

i check link icon, and saw that i have very bad latency and pings.
average ping loss 32.15 seconds losses.
average latency package losses 126,255.

wow, i never seen that goes high and i would had been booted several times.

on live servers i had run with tolerable level at
average ping loss at 4.20-7.35 seconds
average latency at 2.00 to 6.00
average latency at prime time 4.00-10.00.

so i gave up playing preview destiney and it isnt playable by all means.

i will blame on poor plannings and lack of extra servers to be provide to releif the strain of log-ins, and increased numbers of the corpses laying everywhere.

if i was to be supervisor of ac project, i would eliminate the player's corpses which would make performance lot better and no more death items required.

carry around death items or dropping the items on corpses take several broadwiths and too much strain, i dont think it is graphic issues, the corpses are the culprit of the internet latencies.
data had to processing what contents drop on the player's corpses and it isnt fast enough.
imagined if almost whole server use the emote command /die and it will tied up and nearly crash the server. so that how bad it is.

took me running from hebain-to to nanto in 30 mins instead i would had it done in 3 mins.

first 3 days i didnt have that problems and it get worse.

with 261 lvl (post 126th lvl toon from LC) and not able to use full potiental to play in direland, with those lags, it is unplayable and untestable for me to explore.
it sux that i had to wait years and years to finally reach actaully real levels which is not from tokens and to find out how good is my character can handle with no possible way to have any form of testing.

we do want a test server with less lag.......................

Nvidia driver. Use the 71.89 at most.

DO NOT USE THE NVIDIA 77.XX drivers!

77.xx is for the 64 bit win XP beta operation system.

Even if you had installed the new BETA Win XP 64 bit version AC will not run on it.

I don't know what to tell you, Hazmat. Before I installed those drivers, I had to wait for a portal storm out of Sanamar to be able to even move. At least I can play now.

Sorry Hazmat, you are mistaken.

1) The beta Windows XP Pro 64-bit and Windows Server 2003 64-bit drivers are a seperate install package than the standard Windows XP/Windows 2000 install package.

2) NVIDIA does not put beta code in release drivers. If they did they would be clearly labeled beta drivers (fyi, NVIDIA rarely releases beta drivers, the 64-bit OS versions are a rare exception).

3) If NVIDIA did try to put out release drivers with beta code they would never get past the Microsoft WHQL process. As the last several standard XP/2k driver releases have all been WHQL certified they didn't have any beta code.

XP 64-bit isn't even in beta anymore. It was officialy released over a month ago. It's still quite new and has some compatibility issues, but I don't think AC is one of them.

77.72 is an official, WHQLd and non-beta release, completely stable, works great in AC.

80.40 are now the latest leaked beta, they work great for me.

I dont Know if this will Help you Lila But it did Wonders For me.

Find a Setting Called AGP Aperture Size in your BIOS, Probably Under Advanced Chipset Options, and set It As Hi as it will Go 256mb Most Likely 64mb Is Default.

Essentially what this does is Allow your Vidio Card to Use your xx mb of your Main System Memory For Texture Paging.

Improved ToD performance tremendously for me and so far Haven't noticed any difference in Windows or other Apps. except Games which Use Hi Numbers of texture pages
