1.) Start on a NPK server. Learn game mechanics.
2.) When you feel like you have a good understanding of PvM (player v monster) and fairly self sufficient: Come to Darktide for real excitement and fun. No monster will ever offer the rush or enjoyment like fighting another person (not in my opinion at least).

Good luck to you and with your travels on Dereth.

Try out a few templates first to see what you like best. Expect to die a few times as you get the hang of things. Do the starter quests once you exit the training dungeon. They give decent xp. Open every corpse and chest. You'll get some decent loot including most of the scrolls you'll need. If you need help ask an experienced player. We can answer most of your gameplay questions including what and where to hunt. Most of all have fun.

Good advice above: learn the mechanics.

I would add to that: don't cheat yourself out of content/experience.

When you eventually interact with experienced players, resist the urge to be powerleveled while wearing super-armor given to you along with level 7 buffs.

Sure, you would certainly make fast progress level-wise, but at the expense of learning the mechanics of the game, strategy for fighting certain types of mobs, techniques for outdoor versus dungeon combat, etc. Plus there is a ton of content/quests/hunting areas for younger toons that you will miss. There will be plenty of time for powerleveling later, if that's your thing.

So, don't necessarily accept the first person that comes along and offers to be your patron. Ask if they're willing to teach you things about the game rather than just give you cash, armor, buffs and send you on your way.

Welcome to Dereth and good luck!

My 2 py says that the above poster [Newbie] has hit the nail on the head for the best advice you could give a new player.

Learning the mechanics and how to use them to your advatage is a HUGE boon. There are too many players who have powerleveled from the beginning and don't know what to do or how to react when it all hits the fan. Learning how to deal with those situations will keep you alive more than anything else, not to mention allow you to experience alot more of the game sooner and get more out of it in the long run.

To me, there is nothing like taking a template people tell you is gimped, and using it to either beat them down, or solo your way through content that they SWEAR you cannot survive. And to add insult to injury, you can go recover their corpse for them ;)
