No you do not need AC/DM to play ToD

for all purposes, AC : DM is discontinued (you can still use the AC : DM CDKey to activate your account for AC : DM content - but will be unable to access the new TOD Content without AC : TOD)

You would also have to Download the new client in order for AC : DM to play. (mandatory graphics upgrade)

If you ordered TOD, you're in the clear - you have everything you need to enjoy AC.

I wouldn't recommend playing it however, there are still many issues that have not been resolved for many years. i suggest looking around these boards to get an idea of what old players and current players think about turbines devs.

Another bit of advice from a long time player... ignore folks that tell you not to play or say AC is dead.

thanks for the pre- grats but i just hope the game play is good cause i have played alot of mmorpgs like everquest, anarchyonline, cityofheroes,world of warcraft and ragnarok..... a couple of those game had good grafix but sucky game play all i look for is tha game play and how easy it is to make friends cause those friends will help out alot but i hope the game play is good on this one :) :cool:

If on dial-up then prolly need to turn graphics dow some (ingame on config menu)...but even on low..the grafix are just fine (no, not as on WoW which I only played a month) but I really enjoy every aspest of this game including the n00b stuff (one of the reasons I have active toons w/ cottages/villas on 4 servers)..if you get into a clan right away...great! most will help you power level...if just wanna run around and check stuff out slowly, thats top notch too! I started in a big clan but didnt use buffs bots for a few weeks and had a blast!!!

The game play in AC rocks!! IMO there's not a better game out there in regards to content, freedom with character developement, and originality in the RPG/MMORPG genre. There's 40+ towns and close to, if not more than, 600 dungeons. The main landmass, Dereth, is equivalent to 500 square miles and its all seamless (no zone loading or the enviroment used to break the landmass up into smaller tiny sections like in WoW).

I believe there's 200+ quests in AC. Many of the quests are designed much differently than other MMORPGs. Levers, switches, pits, etc. add some challenge and excitement while going through a dungeon. My most favorite quest, Gaerlan's Citadel, has a section in it where there's rolling balls that will instantly kill you if one hits you. Your stuck in a dead end hallway and your party must destroy this door that's blocking your way out.

I would definately choose Throne of Destiny over the standard/Dark Majesty client. There are big bonuses that you can acquire by having it:

- Level Cap is raised to level 275
- More Skill Credits post level 126
- Augmentation Gems
- Rares
- Extra Skill Credit Quest
- Extra Character Slot
- New Character Race, Viamontians
- The ability to make an alignment with one out of the two Viamontian factions.
- New landmass (Halaetan Islands) that is 2x the size as Dark Majesty's island, Marae Lassal
- Additional 40+ dungeons
- Additional 20+ quests
- Level 140+ Hunting Areas

While I think you will find that, even with the upgrade, the grapics are still not on par, and in some cases not even close to some of the new games. However, with that said, I am like you. I have sampled ALOT of the MMORPG environment and through all the years have stayed with AC because of the gameplay. AC is great in that it has something for just about everyone. It is a classless system of character creation, the pVp actually requires SKILL, you template will not do it all for you. There are alot of things that make this game great, so load it up and give it a try.

As others have said, you may not like all of the people you run into, and you may find that, initially, people are a bit standoffish. The reason for this is that it is very rare for us to see truely NEW players. Usually if we encounter someone claiming to be a new player, it is someone trying to scam us out of items or equipment. Be patient. Hopefully the expansion is going to rid us of that midset at least somewhat. Most people, once they realize you are not trying to gank their stuff will be more than willing to help you out.

If I can offer you any advice, it is do NOT powerlevel a character for awhile. If you do, have at least one toon that YOU level without exp passup, equipment handouts, etc. The reason I say this is, as with other games, if you get levelled too fast, you will never really learn how to play well. Someone who has done it the hard way a time or two vrs someone who hasn't has a huge advantage, and not just in pVp. The techniques you learn to stay alive, and your ability to do what alot of people will say cannot be done will surprise you :)

As far as which server to play on goes, obviosly we are all partial to the servers we play on. I would say just pick a server and start, then keep an eye on the various server boards and see if one strikes your fancy. This will give you the experience of playing for a bit and knowing what you are looking for before deciding on a more permenant home. As far as templates go, my suggestion would be to grab a premade template, non-mage, and play it up to at least level 20 or so to get the feel for game mechanics. After that, read up on some of the class boards on warcry (crossroads of dereth) and acvault.com and get an idea for what people are playing. Also keep in mind, most of these players have been playing a LONG time, and can get away with more extreme templates. Try something more moderate and, as time goes on, you can use quests to adjust your template to something that more fits your playstyle.

Hunter 9901..some folks do have issues with Turbine..or the gods..but tis your dicision if you want to play..i will stand by that Asherons call dark majesty and now Throne of Destiny is over all people friendly..and quests and fighting..are awesome..there willl be issues along the way you feel in conflict with or feel the wrath of others in conflict....as some folks have, you have to ask yourself if its worth the time..tis your life..do the trial period ..but that is as it is in real life....some expectations are not met..but...given this factor..its worth a shot to try the game.. as it is in living...I would read the boards to costructive advice as to how to play and you will find many willing folks to help you out. ...understand these boards and meet up with someone in private message that you feel has quality advice ....and Welcome to Throne of Destiny May the peace of jojji..(quest ingame) be with you and others on this forum

Just like a good connection, you can play on a dial-up line, but DSL or Cable is better...

My local EB Games got 15 copies in between 10 am and 10:30 on the 19th, they were sold out by noon...

I am not sure when (and if) they will get more copies in, I suspect they will... and I hope soon...

The Dedicated Game Shops (EB Games and GameStop) gave the pre-order packs away if you pre-ordered the game, they are used to these things... Best Buy on the other hand sold the Pre-order packs for $10.00 each, but I do not think they have any record of who bought them...

From what folks have found out, Best Buy is looking to get the ToD boxes on or about the 30th (why, I have no idea), if you can wait that long, you may be able to get a copy there (not that long, only 5 days), what Gouru is suggesting is that you take the receipt from the Pre-Order Boxes in with you, and see if they will take the $10.00 you paid for them off the price of the game (they are a Pre-Order Gift for those that Pre-Ordered the game, as in committed to buy from that store)... now, there is no guarantee that Best Buy will honor that, and give you the $10.00 off, but it's worth the try.

cant order it off line my mom is the boss of that :( and i asked and she said no :( but i think my dads playing me back tomarrow so i he can take me to eb games cause for some reson he wants to get the game cause i worked hard for the money to get it but he took it lol thats why hes paying me back

Exactly, i posted that to bring a semblence of reality to a forum that that is rightly pro AC.

AC is far from perfect, and you should know this before playing, comments that build up your hopes will be more detrimental to you long term than mine will.

The combat system is sub par, when you play a melee you will see this, however a mage is a good experience if used without third party applications. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!.

You are limited by the system by your level, for example you will be left out of some quests due to it. you will also soon find yourself pushing levels in order to take part in some quests or to hunt with new friends.

xp is a grind in AC very very tedious. People made macroes in order to aleviate the boredom of leveling (something i'm sure you are used to) when in reality all turbine had to do was remove the need to grind out levels.

AC is very item dependant also, as with most other MMO's. you can not get the best loot now at lower levels, you must hunt the highest level mobs in order to get the best. Something you will not be able to do for a long while.

Life magic, everyone and their uncle uses it, it's just that unballanced, if you don't have it you won't be the best, if that does not bother you then you won't miss it.

PvP, if you like to pvp you will need a mage, if you chose melee don't expect to win any fights.

I will not recommend AC in it's current form to anyone, new or old players, by continuing to pay turbine money you are effectively saying the shortcomings are ok and please continue to let the players down on a monthly basis.

All of what i have said about game mechanics are fact and not biased opinion.

AC was the best MMO there was, now it's in the hands of a third rate team.

thistedown is a good world to go to then its all good to get an idea of differnt types of players all over ac is a cool game i think i dont need to be in a grop to lvl like others theres places u can go alone un like other games look me up (c h i p) in thisteldown
