Thinking of returning to AC

Like many people I've tried the other MMORPG's and have come away feeling disappointed, and longing for the days of AC. All new games are dumbed down and highly 'scripted'. You just follow the storyline and end up exactly like everyone else. I loved the freedom and versatility of AC.

Anyway, couple of questions.

Is AC still 'active'? How many people play now? Is it all vets or do new people still join up?

Will my characters be alive after 2 or 3 years?

Reading through the forums, I see some issues. Will I need these new expansions to play? I think I still have the original box and I definately still have the original DM box, will that be enough?

I couldn't tell you the numbers of people playing. I can tell you that since the expansion there has been waves of new players and starter towns like Holtburg are jampacked. You do not need the expac to play but you do need to download the graphics upgrade. Personally, I would get the expansion for the new content. Either way you will get to enjoy the improved graphics. As long as you avoid the boards where everyone complains, you will be extremely pleased with game. Hope you make the leap. :D See you IG.

Errr, call me dumb here, but how do I actually get started again? It's not exactly clear. I've migrated my old account over from Microsoft to Turbine, that seemd to go ok. I assume I could now install AC and DM from my original CD's? However, I also bought ToD ($65 to Europe.... grrrr). Is it easier to just wait for that to arrive? Will everything be installable directly from the ToD disks?

You can use your ACDM disk, but you'll have to download the graphics update from Turbines site. Or yes you could wait to get your ToD disk.......everything will be on it. Have fun
