Whats the difference between the Rumors with the light blue border and the dark blue border that you can buy from the town barkeeps? Does it denote difficulty or anything?
Just wondering

I think some rumors are found only in the town near the quest while others are found in all starter towns. The ones found in all the starter towns are a little harder I beleive. That may be the color diff.

Thanks Gustaive!
Okay Next question:
What's the general system for when a Monster sees your character? Does it correspond to when they appear in the compass?
Does it make any difference what you're doing (walking, running, crouching etc.) or if you are, for instance carrying a torch?
Do some see further than others?

From my experience, the triggers for being "spotted" by creatures is primarily distance and activity. Most creatures will spot when you, once you are within their "viewing radius". While I am not sure if this distance changes with various creatures (I don't believe so), in general it is near to half the distance of the compass radius (center to the edge). While most will see you once you are within that distance, you can shorten their viewing radius by walking short distances at a time. This is not a fail proof method, but does raise your chances of slipping by, etc.
I have never determined if a torch attracts more attention, but I am doubtful that it does (though it should). Obviously other actions will attract their attention, such as attacks or spells being cast on them. These actions also trigger creatures of a similar type, that are near, to also spot you and attack. Sometimes these creatures that join in the attack come from very far off the compass. Other times, they can be within sight, and not attack.
Also, I have never seen any evidence that the creatures see you better or worse, when you are in their field of vision and when you are behind them.

Monster aggro distance - in general on the landscape - is around 30 units away, which is 3/5's radar range. Some monsters never aggro until disturbed by an attack or spell cast upon them -- you can run right up to them and they will ignore you until you bug them.
Many monsters are allies of nearby monsters, sometimes even different species. If you attack their friends then the allies will aggro on you from the surrounding area - from the entire extreme radar range.
Finally - there is a "feature" where if you attack a monster in a building (this includes sunken carns on the landscape) all allies of that monster from the entire surrounding LANDBLOCK will try to attack you.
Dungeon aggro ranges are simular in unit distance, even though the radar range is smaller.
