( 7 years of mmorpg experience), that would be awsome! my aim name is unsocial animal, and would be looking forward to a reply to this or an instant mesage!! tah!

The servers all have pretty comparable population now, with the exception of Darktide, which is the PvP-only world. Darktide actually has a larger population these days, but I would strongly recommend against it if you are just starting out. I would also avoid VT as it is the newest of the worlds and a bit underpopulated. Solclaim has always been good to me, but I'm sure that others could say that about the other servers.

One of the greatest things about AC is that all characters can do just as well solo as they can in a group. There aren't dedicated soloists or group-only characters. I usually recommend that brand new players start out as melees to get a grasp of the basics and to establish themselves before trying out the more difficult mage or archer types. Mages and Archers are a bit more difficult to learn to play and are more expensive. That being said, if you and your friend are going to spend a lot of time hunting together, one of you may want to be a mage while the other is an archer or melee.

If you do decide to play on Solclaim, feel free to look me and my monarchy up. Link is in my signature.

Good luck!

Agree with Gyes, I recomend to start as a melee sword or UA etc. then do the noob quests, they are both fun and give good xp and rewards. you also learn how to move between the startertowns.

mabye you should make a mage each and then swear you melee to eachothers mage, so you can get some free xp. its kind of hard to play a mage at low lvls.

One other tip - since youve never played AC1 before...

Do not accept offers to power level your characters ( and there will be lots of them). Level your first characters up the "old fashioned" way and you will learn much more about gameplay. Then things will be less frustrating at higher levels.

Once you have leveled up 1 or 2 chars by yourself, then by all means partake of whatever help you want.

Welcome! I like sword and mage combo. The mage can heal and vuln and the sword toon has a shield to protect themselves and the mage.

I play on several servers but my favorite is Wintersebb. There are a lot of really great people there. Read the VN boards http://vnboards.ign.com/Asherons_Call_Server_Boards/c5019/

and get a feeling for the people on these servers.

If you come to WE look us up, the clan is Rexob.. we call ourselves the Knights of the Shadow Realm

I'm Sundara or Mystiqua... good luck and have tons of fun!

Welcome to ac, you chose an interesting time to start playing, after 6 months of stagnation while the team were sorting out TOD.

what i'd say, dont be afraid to ask questions in game, experienced players will always be glad to help out those who are realy new to the game.

take your time, there is a lot out there to do, and if you get rushed through things, you are not realy learning. power leveling is not realy the way to learn, all you do there is get xp and levels, you dont realy get to know the game.

after 5 years of playing the game, it's still the only one ive played for that long, and it's the people who make it worth while, so find a good monarchy, there's loads around. dont macro - it's not the way to play the game you never learn anything or enjoy things if your not there to play.

there's always stuff to do, loads of quests to learn and experience and a lot of people around to help you.

dont be afraid to reroll if you find things arnt working out for your character, many out there are not still playing their first character (well, i am - he's a gimp but that makes the game fun). dont be afraid to try something, after all if you die death is not the end.

dont know what world you both have decided on, but if your on sc, and need a hand you'll find loads of friendly players around

good luck

I have to agree with several players that have said go slow.. melees are easier.. sword or ua.. make a sho, dagger.. make an aluvian staff.. make a guaru.

If you are looing for a good monarchy you can check out mine The collective soul. Feel free to contact me ingame as imperia. I'd be glad to tell you about them.

DONT powerlevel. ive been playing for 5 years myself and I can tell you that doing the newbie quests and learning the general mechanics of the game are way more important that getting to that high level, that will come!

Enjoy the game for what it is. Not for what it will be at another level!

If you need good templates for characters.. all you need to do is ask.. or do like I and many others have done. Learn as you go!

AC is a great game with a lot of great people. Trust no one.. but believe the best in all till proven otherwise. There are people who will try and take advantage of you for whatever reason they have. You will learn these people and learn to avoid them. Dont listen to those that tell you you can be 100 in a few days. They have missed out on so much that you will enjoy.

Just my 2py

And welcome to AC! You are in for the ride of your life!

Definitely start as a melee toon. For test driving, go with either dagger, unarmed combat, or staff.

These let you take more skills to dabble in and figure out your play style.

If melee is your thing, you can switch to a different weapon later on (anytime after level 25). The only odd ball melee weapon is dagger. It's based on coordination and quickness, while other melee weapons are based on strength and coordination.

After you get proficient somewhat (lvl 30 range), see if you like a missile or mage any better.

This game, most characters have a strong magic component to them...there are very few characters that go magic free. Most toons have at least item enchantment for ease of travel and buffing armor and weapons. A lot still pack life magic and creature magic.

Going with either staff, dagger, or UA allows you to easily have 3 schools of magic and mana conversion (to cast more spells before going dry on mana). And definitely get arc lore. I like specialized arc lore in the beginning so you can easilly equip gear with high spell levels.

The real class defining magic skill is war magic.

It doesn't take that long to figure out the game basics.

I'd also check out a few other sites, like AC Vault, Maggie the Jackcat's, or Crossroads of Dereth for game info. Also, other sites bulletin boards may be more helpful, or not. Like any other online game, there are a lot of trolls. :)

I have always played on Leafcull. Back when we had access to server pops, it was one of the highest. No clue now, though, since you don't see server pops when you log on anymore.

And I echo what others have said....graphics take a back seat to game play. Eye candy wears off fast, but content will keep you going a long time. I tried SWG, AC2, and COH. I'm still here. I was invited to go into 2 other closed betas, but I'm still here.

AC1 is a pretty good game design. Not perfect, considering how magic works relative to weapon attacks, but it's as good as any other game in terms of combat. I like that it is still somewhat random and really like the content.

No puny elves, dwarves or orcs here :)

I would say com on over to Thisdledown but only if you like bein the odd ball... If the monthly event says KILL xxx_mob we will stand in a big circle and defend it just because we can.
Whole server of Thistledown is like that.
