The new chat is great and very useful, but what I don't understand is some players attitude:
When you hear on e.g. LFG "Level 12 toon looking for hunting company" or "Level 9 Mage looking for group (can buff)" WHY on earth respond with "The best thing you can do is stay out of the way" and such?
All you HIGH level and UBER players, please give new and low level players the same chance to take part in the game, without sarcastic comments. Why not instead help and advice? Or, if you are not interested in the "offer", just leave out any comment and don't spam the channels with trash talk.

Amen CrazyPoster!
Discouraging new players is never a good thing.

It makes me want to reach for a throat, when people do that. We all were lils at some point or other... every last one of us.

The best thing to do at that time is to help the newbie out in whatever way you can, just being nice is best.
We will not see Turbine doing anything about people being rude in open chat.
Just show the newbies there are people behind some of the avatars and that, unfortunately, the RL skill of "ignore the idiot" is vital to any online experience, not just gaming.

I have seen on many occasions, New players asking "what does a torso do?" or "how do I do "such and such?". The replies are mixed from "Type /die it will get you 2 mil xp and some good armor" to "The torso is the highest av you can get". Give me a break. Like some have said, we were ALL new to the game, and it is our responsiblity to pass on what we can in form of help, armor, etc. I for one always post in "general" when I am dropping a crap load of lvl 7's and where. I always try to make it so lower lvls can get them....but on frostfell there are a couple of really greedy "clans" and they send high lvls to snatch them up. I also, since I save "mmd's", give money and armor and stuff to new players when I can. I like playing the game because I like to see what mistakes or what progress I can make with my character. Be nice to them, You never know when they may be able to help you out.

Don't announce it... give it to random lils, or lacking that pick someone in general chat who is both a mage and asking a slew of "noob"ish questions. Send them a /tell, track them down, and give them scrolls. :)

I have also seen new lils asking for help and being ignored...
Thats how i got a new vassel :) very new to ac. oNLY because I listened and went out of my way to help her. YOU guys complaining theres no new toons to be had as vassels should listen to whats said in the chats more. The last thing you all need to be doing is turning away new blood to this game that sorely needs it!!!!!
recruting vassels and helping new players on frostfell :p

I've been playing for quite a while... well a while for me anyways and I still need to know stuff. Generally I think you should be able to request a general, or trade, or lfg ban for a person if there being an absolute bastard. I have never seen anyone even talk on lfg, let alone insults. But I do not find t hard to beleive this is happening on other servers. If you do not have anything nice to say, just shut the hell up. Just shut the hell up. And if you don't shut the hell up, people should be able to make you shut the hell up.

This was most likely one of the things what brought down ac2 also, so you better start thinking about what you do say and what you don't in chat channels.
The ppl left in ac2 were mostly thinking about 1 thing: exp, exp and exp. If that is the same case here it is only a matter of time and AC will shut down.
And that WILL happen (just look at ac2) if population drops below s certain point.
Btw is there ANY way to just buy a cd-key somewhere instead of a boxed version? Thank you.

What I know of: no. Depending why you asked I can tell you that I am from Europe and shipping here is very expensive, so I ordered online in USA and had my "extra" boxes sent to a person I can trust in the USA. The person then just emailed the CD-keys. a) got the keys VERY fast that way (<24h from ordering) b) didnt have to pay high delivery costs.

I left the game for about a year, when I came back my clan had left to play WoW. So I decided to start over on Verdantine. There had been a lot of changes since I left so I was pretty much a noob that understood game function basics.
I know to go to Maggie's Site (http://www.thejackcat.com)
This is the best place to get any information you will ever need about the game. It's always updated. Except I still dont know what a gold heart is for.
I don't like bothering people, at the same time a quick question now and then don't hurt if I know it dont require a long explanation.
Clan number one - ignored me. Not just in answering questions, just ignored me. They would not even say HI - Left them after 3 days - they sucked.
Clan number 2 - sometimes acknowleged me but would never answer a question. Left after a week. Why pass up XP to people who are not interestd in helping me achieve my goals?
Now I am part of RavenSwift Clan. They are a great clan for the beginner. They will answer your questions or point you in the right direction.
I help a lot of players get started. I give them things, fetch corpses, answer questions etc...
NEW PLAYERS : You do not have to stay with any clan or patron that will not help you out now and then. Choose your associates very carefully. This does not mean they owe you money, power leveling or things, just assistance when you really need it. You pass up experience to your patron - your patron should give you the time of day.

Well I know that my group I play with are all helpful to all new people. I created it for that purpose because I was tiered of all the people running around and never even saying hi to anyone. I could go for days without a signle person saying Hi or do you need any help. So now we have a good group of people doing the right things and always helping out other people with questions and in-game help. I think that is what was the most attractive thing the game had for me when I started playing 5 years ago. Now I am see more of it again and am happy. I think with the global chat and bots gone for the most part it has brought back people back together who like playing with other people. I think the problem with the chat is with the younger crowd.

i think it is very rude and harsh to talk down to a little person for being little. it isnt there fault and they just want to pplay like everyone else. when im in game most of the time when i see a little erson ill buff them with 7s to be nice. ppl do need to be nicer i agree!

Yes Arch, there are new players in the game. If you make the same effort in game as you do on the boards, you will find them.
Come on man quite the crap.

some people just like to be annoying, that will always be the case, they don't really care if they annoy a new player or an old player, they just love to make stupid remarks.
best thing is to ignore them, perhaps point out they are wrong, but getting into a discussion isn't wise, it will just become a flamewar. tell the new player what is up and help him/her out if you can / have time.

As much as I like the new chat options, it does put a light on all the jerks. In AC2 the attitude seemed much more jaded towards newbs. Very often the standard answer was goto http://ac2vault.ign.com/ and don't bug us until you have a question not answered there. When I had questions though I took people to task to answer them. When the xpac came out there were some new players, but the way the AC2 lands were setup the newbish experience with the starter town tended to be barren ghost town or empty bus station with that creepy guy asking if you want a ride somewhere.
I'd like to see AC not go that direction. Answer the new player's questions with helpful answers, adopt a newb (don't need to make them vassals, they might assume you owe them then) show them how to play, show them the starter town quests - those anyone can play w/o buffs and learn most what they need to know about basic play, you might end up getting a real long term player, vassal, and friend out of it and maybe they know two others that don't care about the updated dated graphics but like to beat stuff up while having fun with others doing so.
