After a couple hours I finally got access to the update server.
I have a Belkin F5D8230-4 router.
If you are having trouble with AC try this:
Log on to your router via the IP address given in your manual.
Main menu:
Firewall
Virtual Services
Check the enable box
Type in "Asheron's Call"
Add inbound ports 9001-9013
Specify type: UDP
Input computer IP
Input the same ports (9001-9013) under "Private Port"
If you have more than one computer trying to play the game you will have to specify one port for each while specifying each separate computer IP.
