Hey all. I have returned after playing only briefly when AC was new. It's a long story I make mention of in my profile but in any case, my little Sho fighter never got too far before my two daughters took over my computer and my Asheron's Call account...
Later, I went on to play EverQuest for over three years as a High Elf Cleric and saw a fair amount of the end game, played in family guilds, on my own at times (grouped mostly) and spent time in a couple raiding guilds as well. I still play EverQuest casually but I'm not into raiding anymore as it is just too time consuming and leaves no time for other enjoyable pursuits, such as playing Asheron's Call.
I never forgot the sights and sounds of Dereth and I've often thought I'd enjoy coming back to play again. Well, with the still fairly new expansion I couldn't resist so I bought that, installed it and logged in today with a brand new account. I didn't want to ressurect my old character. I decided it would be much better to begin anew. So here I am.
I must say, the community on Harvestgain where I made my new Lin Mukai, another Sho but this time a War Mage, was so friendly. The warm welcome and offers to show me around and answer my newbie questions was really nice. What a nice way to begin in Dereth. Hat's off to you guys for making it a nice place to come and enjoy some time adventuring.
I like the updated tutorial and am almost done with it. I had to log to do something for one of my kids but I plan to log back on tonight for a bit before bed and at least finish that and hopefully find some Drudges who need to meet thier maker, whoever that is... lol
I love the unique and original world of Dereth. The new textures and other graphical updates are nice too. I remember that AC always was nice to look at with the great art work and use of color. I know it isn't cutting edge but who cares? It's the people and the game itself that matter more and really, at some point games of recent times have all reached a level where they look pretty darned good to someone who's been playing PC games since the original PC-XT and MS Flight Simulator, and I thought THAT was amazing at the time, which actually, it was.
It looks to me so far like a very nice job was done on the expansion and I do remember a little of the Dark Majesty expansion as both my kids played it, had apartments, etc. Sadly, some unkind person talked them into trading everything they had for a house but then didn't deliver the goods and kept all thier stuff, laughed at them, etc. They were so upset they quit the game and never returned. It's a shame how some people will be so unkind to others and hurt them more than they know in real life when they do something like that. I hope the interface for trading things has been improved to make that kind of thing impossible now. I know in EQ both parties have to click to accept a trade in a window and if either party changes any items, etc. the deal is null until both have an opportunity to approve it. In this way, it isn't possible to steal from someone and prevents that sort of thing. I think for the house, they were supposed to be given a deed or something but they never got it of course. Such a trade interface would prevent that kind of thing.
Anyways, my playing tonight caught thier eyes and I am hoping that maybe this summer I might get them to play with me some. They are usually too busy during the school year but in summertime they may succumb to the call of Asheron yet, not to mention the call of thier old man... hehe...
Well, enough of my rambling on. That's my little history as someone new here.
I came tonight to see if there are Allegiance recruiting postings to see who I might join up with once I am out of the tutorial. If anyone from Harvestgain or Darktide sees this, any pointers in the right direction would be great. I plan to play both places. I've never played a pvp server and I'd like to try it just for fun as well as playing a pve server.
If you got this far, thanks a lot for taking interest in the newbies in Dereth. I know this one appreciates it as I did the nice welcome earlier today.
