Hello, I was just wondering if this game is any good? I've been trying to read some reviews but they don't give much insight on it. If anyone could please tell me how good this game is and if it's better than any other game out there (Everquest or World of Warcraft) I would be very grateful. Thank you.

The fact that its been around for near 7 years...and many of our players have gone and come back after games like WoW, EQII, Guild Wars, CoH / CoV, DAoC, etc., I think that speaks tons.

What you'll find in AC is a community of players who love the game and welcome new folks. There is endless lore, quests, and ways to play the game.

I will not be the one to tell you the differences from other games, I'm sure others can do that. But, Turbine is dedicated to this game and has just announced server upgrades and a new advertising campaign, so you can trust it will be here for a few more years :)

Well you asked a very good question? One that is in some ways hard to answer! As those of us who play really like the game. As far as how it compairs to other games, I can only give you my experiances which would probably be different than yours.
I have played everquest and dnd. I gave up everquest cause of the having to have a good or big guild to get your epic weapon, I had 4 chars that could have went and gotten it. Friend asked me to try this one and I havent went back. I tried dnd while playing this one and it was not for me. When I log in I want to play I dont allways have alot of time to wait for a group, which you are at the mercy of. Now they are adding some solo content, have no clue if I will go check it out or not.
With Ac you have your choice of chars, when you log in you can go right out and try to do what you like. If you want to fellow with a group, thats not a problem. You can work on tinkering skills if ya like that.
Ultimatly the choice of weither or not you like the game, it will be up to you.
If you want to try it out come on over to the solclaim server, and I will give you a heads up on all the fine monarchys we have and give you an idea on which might be the best for ya.

Sup Dagoth724,

I have 4 accounts for this game... this game is amazing. I have been playing since 2000 and I have also played Star Wars Galaxies, Dark Ages of Camelot, and World of Warcraft. In my opinion, Asheron's Call is the best MMO that I have ever played.

If you have played World of Warcraft, then you know how "simple" it is. I played a mage on World of Warcraft... I could only pick from spell trees of Fire or Ice and then I had 3 to 5 damage spells and about 2 or 3 self buffs. Combat was run within range... shoot a spell or two, freeze the critter and run away... then shoot some more. Once I finally kill something, i have to drink water and eater bread and sit down while I recover... BORING... same thing.... OVER.. and OVER... and OVER. Go get 12 dog ears..... and bring to NPC... go get 6 Scales and return to NPC. The game is VERY, VERY juvenile and silly. Graphics are very nice but tahts about all I can say for it.

In comparison, a mage on Asheron's call can hunt pretty much non-stop. Mages have mana.. just like in wow, but in contrast when your mana gets low
in AC, you can cast a Stamina to Mana spell which depletes a portion of your stamina and sends it to your mana.... and then you can cast a Revitalize spell to replenish your stamina... and you're right back to hunting after taking about 2 seconds to cast those spells. Fighting is so much more fun in Asheron's CAll... both PlayerVSMonster and PlayerVSPlayer. I've never seen another game like that, but there are 7 types of damage you can do (Lightning, Acid, Frost, Fire, Slashing, Piercing, and Bludgeoning).... and the creatures of the land are more or less vulnerable to specific attacks... Lugians are naturally more vulnerable to lightning attacks, Eaters are naturally more vulnerable to slashing attacks, etc. As a mage, you can either cast Lightning Vulnerability and then shoot a lightning bolt... or you can use a Lightning Rend wand, and since it automatically vulns your targets to lightning then you just shoot the lightning bolts. Lastly, War bolts come in numerous forms... there are Bolts which auto target if you are moving. Arcs which target the ground where the target was standing when cast. Walls which cast 8 bolts double stacked in rows of 4 to attack a series of oncoming attackers. Rings which are cast around the mage like a saw blade, damaging anything that is immediately surrounding the mage. Streaks, which are weaker bolts but they are incredibly fast and hard to dodge. All of this and I'm just talking about MAges... Asheron's Call is all about Freedom for your character, you're not stuck making a cookie cutter mage tha is predefined by the game creator.

Questing in AC is FAR superior than any other game that I've played. All other MMO's quests are 95% kill quests... Go kill the baddie, bring back one of his items.. (head, sword, etc) and then I'll give you credit for quest. Asheron's Call quests are different in that many have puzzles that must be solved in order to complete. Some even require 2 groups to go through a labrinth, requiring group A to pull levers to open doors for Group B to advance, and vice versa. Also, there is no instancing!!! Dungeons are live and available to all people.

Asheron's Call has an amazing amount of storyline and depth. You have complete FREEDOM to make your character however you like... you can be a Sword/MAge hybrid.... Tank sword... Life Sword... Archer.. whatever, you are not stuck with some stupid "skill tree" which forces you down a character path. In addition, if you decide you don't like a choice you made, there are quests in the game that allow you to untrain things you have learned... so nothing you do is permanent in that regard.

If you want to read about Asheron's CAll in more detail, then I suggest the following sites.

TheJackcat, com - a great site with full quest write ups, recaps of game lore, weapons, armor, etc

Ac.stratics.com - another great resource of game guides and information

AsheronsGuide.com - a little dated but a great resources to see the freedom of character in AC. They have numerous character templates and a character builder to test out different character choices

Made-For-War.com - my guild website from Darktide, great selection of Images of character types (over 40 images of characters from in game), and PvP videos from in the game.

VnBoards.IGN.com - the most active messsage boards for Asheron's Call

Thank you very much for your replies to my thread. From the sounds of it this game is as powerful than the rest of the games. I am a veteran of Star Wars Galaxies and Lineage 2 and I'm hoping to fill the hole in my heart for an awesome MMORPG. I may even try and go out and earn enough money to get this game! This game is rare in some gamestores so I'll just download it from direct2drive.com and they even include some special bonuses for downloading. Again thank you for you posts, it is very much appreciated!
