I have a broadband connection and can download things pretty quickly. I'm downloading a 18MB patch file from Turbine now and It's taking like half an hour?

Is the server slow, or is it a port problem on my side? Secondly, is there a place to download the new patches outside of AC, incase it is the download server that is slow?

It does not matter what kind of connection you have. The AC server flow controls the connection to dial up speeds. I remember testing this a while back. I believe the maximum speed is around 30k bits a second (about half a normal 56k dial up).

Your best bet is to download one of the new clients:
http://ac.turbine.com/index.php?page_id=381

and then patch from there.

You can not download the patches. Instead, Turbine stores a full copy of the data files (300 hundred megs or so) and updates it every couple of months. Then you have to patch from there. Sorry I do not remember where the data files are stored.

Given the newest of the existing client download, you would be better off downloading it. Or given that you are mostly down patching, let patching finish.
