When I first took over as OCR rep here an Asheron’s Call, one of my first actions was to give the community more freedom in posting. That included lowering the post timer and being a bit more lenient when it came to the content of some posts. However, this freedom seems to have caused some community members to forget the basic rules of civil discussion. So, starting right now any forum member who uses a personal attack towards a Dev or another forum member will be banned.
There is no reason to personally attack someone on a message board by calling them dumb, stupid, or any of the other various insults handed out. This change will be effective immediately and will be across all of the forums. The first ban someone gets for this will be for one week. If after that one week ban the person in question feels they can post like an adult, they will be allowed to do so. If that person then makes another attack they will be permanently removed from the forums. If after that the person tries to make an evade account to post and I find out, their IP will be banned.
It is very easy not to attack someone for their ideas, and to criticize the idea without an attack. Generally this is not a problem, but since a few posters have decided it is easier to bash someone that to constructively criticize them, I have been left with no choice but to do this. This policy will be strictly enforced going forward.
My hope is that by taking this stance, some members of the community won’t be afraid to post their feelings about some issues.
