We've seen these types of threads before, but they usually get buried.
What would AC3 be?
-Define your storyline
-Does it pick up where AC2 left off? Or will AC3 treat AC2 as a bad dream?
-Same skill/attribute progression as AC1? More weapon classes?
-Same map? Different part of the world? Ability to transfer AC1 toons to AC3?
Same creature types? Voice integrated?
Etc,etc, etc,etc
What would your dream sequel or prequel to AC be?
Here it goes...
-Define your storyline
Not good with storylines but I know I would have the storyline involve Asheron Realaidain in a majority (75-85%) of the storylines to give the feel of the game.
Bring Martine back as a main character in the story-line and probably have Elysa Strathelar meet the same fate her Thorsten Cragstone met.
-Does it pick up where AC2 left off? Or will AC3 treat AC2 as a bad dream?
I would probably treat AC2 as a bad dream.
-Same skill/attribute progression as AC1? More weapon classes?
AC1 has the best skill/attribute system in any MMORPG and I would probably keep it the same and NOT introduce any new weapons but maybe later on.
-Same map? Different part of the world? Ability to transfer AC1 toons to AC3?
Same map plus a few more new islands. The islands would introduce the 'quest-XP' system where you can make as much XP on the quest as you would in a dungeon killing monsters. Also I'd like another island that has a hall of fame-like appearance that shows Asheron's Call's old foes and friends (like add a Gaerlan statue, BZ statue).
Same creature types? Voice integrated?
Same creatures. No to voice integration.

I think it would be nice to travel outside of Dereth. Have Asheron give all his might to summon a portal to another part of the world. Bring out those magic casting olthoi (saw that on lore forums). Also bring in some new weapons and give us some dual weildies!

Open up that portal to Ispar! Civil war and unrest plague Ispar and new rivals have come through magical portals to take advantage of the political climate. Rivaling clans must unite and make peace to survive at times against the powerful foes.
Of course, travel between Dereth and Ispar would remain open for its advantages. Some quests would require work on both worlds. There would be more than killing and switches in dungeons. Some quests might take months to complete as content is rolled out and new information uncovered.
Experience would not be a grind on Ispar. Though, those who preferred to get experience by PvM would probably spend most of their time off of Ispar.
I think it would be cool to have an heir to the throne, the chosen and foretold king that would reunite Isparians across all lands. This newborn king would require protection and tributes, experiences, and trials. Through it all, he would learn the true path of leadership and be able to save Ispar from its fate.
.....
If you read into that, I'm seeing PvP, land control, quests for advancement, social advancement and experience, epic storyline quests, and prestige.

The Mana Stream is not as potent on Ispar, mages would be limited to level 3 spells at the max with that idea! ;p

Hrm...I'm sure there is some lore to be developed then.

My version of AC3 isn't AC3 rather its AC1 game ported over to a more advanced game engine (like AC1 in old AC2 game engine or something).

Ac 3 should be ac1+better graphics, more classes, different wepons and spells, spells in the lvl 10 range maybe, the ability to create custom spells, more races, same map, cooler looking weps ac wepons generally look plain and kinda lame. Make quest wepons better than regular wepons u tink up yourself
if i didnt have to go irl i would post more, there is my 2 cents atm tho.

For starters, I wouldn't do an AC3. Part of the issue with AC2 was people expecting AC with better graphics. I rather see Turbine do a new game, improving on what they have learned and be less worried about what EQ and WoW are doing.
That said, what I would like to see in the next game from Turbine.
1. A good story line. If people insist on it being AC then have us go to the mainlands of Dereth, about time we got off this silly island.
2. I would like to see a hybrid skill/class system, I might keep the current 3 tiers of skills, untrained, trained, and specialized. Untrained skills would truely to untrained, zero chance of using them. Where the hybrid system comes into effect is that when you specialized certain skills it would prevent you from specializing other skills. For example, a mage would be more focused on mental discipline so if someone wants to specialize in a magic skill then they would no longer be able to specialize physical combat skills. Once you have skills specialized then you can fine tune them, similar to how AC2 did it with their tree structure of skills. Again, going down one branch of specialization would prevent you from going down another branch. So you could be a jack of all trades, but truely a master of none.
XP that you can spend would be done away. You want to advance a skill, you use the skill. XP would be only for level advancement.
Just to muck things up, I would change some of the following in AC too:
1. No more shields as a brick wall, they would be either a chance to block or a melee d modifier. To use a shield would require melee d to be trained. To use the best shields that might also have special properties you would need to spec melee d.
2. Item decay would be in place as means to help regulate the economy. Tinkering skills would be used to repair items.
3. It would be either non-PvP or PvP full time, none of this so-so stuff. I thought Shadowbane to be one of the best game to implement PvP so far (too bad the rest of the game had too many issues).
Just some things off the top of my head.

Never bothered me in any game I played that had this option.

I really do not believe there could ever be an AC3.
When they took and created AC2, they had to give up many of the 'Heroic' aspects of AC1.
In order to make the characters, critters and scenery look 'pretty', it eliminated the ability for you to have a battle surrounded by 40 Olthoi type critters as often occurs in AC. In AC2, you could get surrounded by 40 critters, but it was garanteed death.
If you have played other MMO games, you will notice that you never fight many level equal critters at once. The graphics just can't handle it. Maybe some of the new cards in the mill will be able to, but then you have to also deal with bandwidth issues then.
The only thing I would like to see if an AC3 is ever created would be another new land mass on this world that you could explore.
You would start over with all new characters, have no TPAs, have the difficulty that the early AC had, have no housing outside of possibly apartments, and have the richness of the POIs, dungeons, towns and quests.
With this new section of the world, there would be different varieties of critters and tons of exploration to do.
All together, keep and improve the great things in AC and avoid all the pitfalls of the current AC.
Might as well dream big.

My Asheron's Call 3 wouldn't be a MMORPG, it'd be a real time strategy game. The game timeline could span from Falatacot times to AC2 times. In Story mode you would play through the different races to advance in the story. There would be a lot of large timeline jumps, with cool videos between to explain whats been up.
First storyline/playable race would be Falatacot. Enemy would maybe be burun, with the main story focused around the temples and portals between dereth and Bur. Storyline would end with Falatacot leaving to Dericost lands.
Then Dericost storyline would happen.. main enemy might be the yalaini. The storyline would end with Yalaini invasion of Dericost lands. Yalaini story line would pick up right there, and cover the first shadow war, the exploration of planets, and the olthoi invasion.
Depending on how long the game is at that point, this could be the end of game. It would basically be the Empyrean RTS. The AC1/AC2 story could be an expansion pack. First game, age of Empyreans, second game age of Isparians.
The game would take place over the entire world, and even some other planets like Bur, Ispar, olthoi world. Mana would be a big part of the game, perhaps not a resource but important.
The non-story part of the game would just be fun. Empyreans battling on huge scales. I'd love to send a whole bunch of diamond golems into a falatacot city to attack with air support from some sky ships.

Beat me to it. I too, think AC3 should involve Ispar.

I never played AC2, but I heard they really changed the way you move and took the FPS aspect of AC1 out of the game. Is that true? I don't know, but if that is true, they made a big mistake imo.
If I was to subscribe to a new AC game, I want the same feel, which means I want to still be able to jump high, dodge arrows/bolts, run fast if I want to, etc.. There are enough mainstream MMOG's out there that have the standard, stand-n-nuke style. Too many MMOG's out there that have the standard everybody runs slow unless you are buffed by a special class style. If a new AC is to survive, they need to keep the character development the same, where people can still put points into whatever skills/atributes they want to. Again, too many MMOG's have a set path for people to progress, that many don't even allow you to customize your character in any way.
1. Better graphics but keep the FPS aspect in the game. Ability to dodge magic and arrows, no mainstream MMOG's on the market allows you to do that.
2. More quests and make quest exp a viable way to level. Quest interface needs to be better ingame, something that helps us keep track of what we have and what we've turned in.
3. More dungeons with similiar exp/hour, rather than right now where 1-2 dungeons hold the best exp in the game for a certain level range. This makes no sense, you need about 5 dungeons capable of producing similiar exp for a certain level range.
4. Many times people have suggested town control. It really is something they need to do, for both white & red servers. It adds an element into the game that will make people keep on playing. I like having houses on the landscapes, but I believe mansions should only be 1 per town.
5. Allegiance system, again most games don't have this, keep the vassal/patron exp passup system. It's fun. It also gives higher levels a reason to help lower levels, what a concept.
6. Better UI and better way of watching your party members of course. Current system is just ugly, and I hate having to block half of my screen just to have that fellowship panel open to see who needs a heal or who needs help.
7. Same itemization, I like it, it's again, different than the mainstream MMOG's.
8. Give factions to towns, making you pick a faction so you have to work on a faction to access certain towns. Make it so nobody can work up all factions, so that people really have to choose and this can be a great way to start off the "town control" system. 3 factions, people picking where they want to station at, and they fight for their faction. Sounds good to me.
9. Don't allow much of 3rd party app codes, instead limit what people can setup macro wise.
10. Allow account transfers. So many accounts sit dead right now, could be played and *paid for* by other individuals. Most MMOG's now allow account transfers, SOE even setup a way to allow people to make the transaction safe. Protect the players, it'll make people love you more.
11. Ingame mail system. Auction house is OK but I can live without it. Just give me an ingame mail system, and a place where people can trade/sell items.
My 2 cents.

I agree with most of your comments here. I too would like to see Ispar, Bur, and the other homeworlds...It gives more content and room to work with then just involving this lonely island. Throughout the entire planet, we haven't the simplest idea truly how many olthoi have invaded Auberan. We can make boats, why don't we sail then? This would re-instate many new players into the AC franchise. The past couple stories in AC has dwindled greatly. We really need a good boost, since Grael has made story telling hit rock bottom.

Theres a few basic things that I'd like to see in an AC3...
1) Better graphics. Pretty much self explanatory.
2) Quest xp. The idea has been beaten to death, so I won't go into it again.
3) Updated GUI/HUD. Although I like the current setup, I feel that it can be a little cumbersome and infringe on my viewable area sometimes.
4) New or updated crafting skills, enabling for a greater variety of equipment. Essentially, you have your weapon class, then a weapon TYPE within that class. IE. For bows, have various types of bows that are beneficial yet different in various ways, perhaps some used when you have other secondary skills trained.
5) Open up Auberean...except not right off the bat. Make it so that in order to move to Auberean, you have to complete a difficult journey across the ocean without the use of portal magic. Perhaps you have to gather a group together of atleast 5 people and the materials to build a boat. After that, you have to actually spend time on the boat sailing across the ocean...perhaps with the chance you'll be attacked by sea creatures and such along the way, and you may not make it at all. Make it so that coming back to Dereth isn't as easy as jumping in a portal either.
The premise behind the last one, is to give a real sense of exploration. You equip yourself for a long journey (perhaps theres some storage you can 'rent' so you can keep comps so you can stay for awhile...or a spattering of NPC vendors). After this, you set sail for the 'new world', fight and explore for a week or two, and then return back to Dereth with your plunder !
