Tandy 1000. (for the win).

2 of my uncles had Commodore 64's (then 128s, then amigas).

So I asked my dad if we could have a computer......lo and behold....the trip to Radio Shack and the lovely machine that was the Tandy 1000.

Which leads me to talk about my first game (which happened to be a RPG). The monsters were letters A to Z, throughout an undiscovered maze.

Needless to say, I still wanted a Commodore 128.....hmmm wonder if there is an emulator for those old games.

Does Pong count? If not, then Atari 2600 :)

First system I played video games on was actually an early version Mac computer. Played Air Hockey on a small black and white screen.

First console was the Nintendo.

After that I got the entire Sega Entertainment System one part at a time. Sewer Shark for the Sega CD is still one of my favorite games of all time.

I remember Walter Payton football for the Sega system.

I never saw a game claim more controllers than that one.

Pong has to count!!!!

I had one for quite a while before updating to an Atari 2600.

Ah, good old Seaquest. Played that for hours on end.

We were so easy to satisfy back then.................

NES: Favorite game was zelda 2/Super Mario Brothers 3. Though I believe very good runners up were Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG.

Atari 800 was the bomb!!!!

I did a lot of chores around the house when I was twelve years old to buy the memory cartriges so I could max it out to 64k of RAM. I learned a lot about 6502 assembly language and was off compiling my own games before I was thirteen. Oddly enough the first macro assembler I used on the Atari 800 was Microsofts Macro Assembler for Atari. Yes folks Microsoft. I later switch to another compiler called BASM because it was about ten times faster :-)

I dabbled with a language called Action which was sort of a blend between BASIC and an early C language. It was great fun, but wasn't as interesting as pure assembly language. Most all of the games I made were sort of stupid, but filled my time after school. Who the heck needed sports when you had an Atari at home you could program and make your own games?

I later graduated to an IBM XT with a 10Meg hard drive. Didn't take more than a week or two to adjust to the 8086 instruction set and the segmented architecture. Never wrote any games on the old XT because the monitor was just a monochrome text display.

I later bought an Atari 520 and my brother ventured off an bough an Amiga. His system was great the Atari 520 sucked as at that time Atari seemed to be floundering and going down hill. The 68k processor was fun to play around with, but it just never held my interest. The only thing I can actually remember writing on the Atari 520 was an auto-redialer for the modem so a friend could get Springsteen tickets when they went on sale and the phone lines were jammed.

I spent most of my high school days defeating the "bad sector" copy protection on store bought games and uploading them to BBS boards via my modem. Well I actually never bought the games, the board owners would and give them to me to crack. They had a vested interest in always having the latest games available for free download to their private members. Nothing like the good old NOP instruction and a disk sector editor. If you were in the know back then this would all make sense to you. After the BBS sites were shutdown because of all the pirated software, I decided that wasn't for me. Took me about two hours to remove all evidence of my activities from my computer room and had my older brother drive me to a dumpster across town to drop off floppy disks and printouts. I never did get a visit. I have this strange feeling it will eventually come back to haunt me when I'm running for office somewhere. But those days were over, it was time to go legit at age seventeen.

Even with all the fancy new techonolgy of computers today with the zillion mips and the gazillion polys per second graphics cards, I still think back to the Atari 800 and wish I could step back in time and experience it all over again.

Atari 800 Ruled!

Pong FTW I started with the Magnavox Odessey. Pong, Hockey, and Handball I think, no seperate controllers you used the game counsel, no game cart just a toggle switch on the counsel to change games.

Retard! You stupid piece of garbage Holt!

Yea, I had an atari back in the day too. That's what I get for smoking to much Holtburg Hashish. Tandy 2nd.

Use to rock at Space Invaders. Sadly, I have an xbox 360 now and 2 of the games I play mostly on it are Pac-man and Galaga. :p
