posted this once and it didn't come up so here it goes again /sigh

i had forwarded my ports and tried setting my router to dmz and brdging blah blah blah and no matter what i did it was taking me 30 mins + of attempting to connect to the game before it actually let me in. this has been driving me insane just like hundreds of others using this forum it seems (checking number of reads on posts)

when, however, i decided to change the prefs in the AC .ini file to specify a port for AC to use it suddenly connects for me every time. no bridging necessary, no DMZ activation necessary (meaning i still have full security from my router). this would suggest that AC is using ports that are *not* specified by turbine.

Turbine tech support tells us the game uses ports 9000 through 9013 UDP. i had these forwarded and could not connect to the game on the vast majority of my attempts to do so.

in a sticky at the top of this forum however, we have instructions on how to specify a port. so....

go to My Documents/Asheron's Call and ope up the 'UserPreferences.ini'

just over halfway down is a line that says

UserSpecifiedPort=0

change this to...

UserSpecifiedPort=9001

as i say - this worked for me because i already had this port in my list of forwarded ports but now - all of a sudden - evbery connect attempt is successful.

let us all know if this works for you - i registered for the forum just to tell you guys i got this working - if this works then say so and maybe we can get the tech guidance changed to something that works for people rather than driving the customers to despair (and away from AC)!

Thats cool that it works for you now but i'm still stuck. I've straight piped my computer to the cable modem and tried everything. I was almost convinced that hookin my computer straight up to the cable modem would work because i wouldn't have to mess with ports or anything but it didn't and i don't know what i did wrong. Now i have it back to wireless and still tryin stuff. I tried to forward the ports with portforward.com and it seemed like it would work but in order to forward ports, u have to update the program, and in order for that u have to register, and i was told u could get by but nobody showed me. I don't know how though.
