View Full Version : What does the world do about North Korea?

Looks like they might be going for a 2nd nuclear test. Should the U.S. stick with the U.N.? Should the U.N. enforce stricter sanctions if N.K. does have another test?
Or do we just wait for N. Korea to piss off China enough that China smacks them around?
We can't afford to be in another war right now.
Can't afford the cost or the loss of life, too many being killed in Iraq/Afganastan.
If Bush gets us into another war, I would expect to see him tossed out of office and linched.
We are expected to stay in Iraq until 2010  at the least.

Let China handle it. Bush has America stuck in Iraq, with his eye on Iran, for their nukes, {even though theirs so far, are still camel launched} Russia is also backing N.K..., India has nukes. We should pull out and focus on our own defenses, instead of running around and pissing the other countries off by telling them they cant have nukes. Right now, America is sitting with our pants around our ankles.

Most people, at least those that understood what ws going on, knew Iraq would be a long term effort, taking several years. Defeating a country is one thing, building a nation is another.
How many is too many? In Iraq there have been roughly 1500 soldiers killed. In WWII it was around 300,000 killed. Granted WWII was bigger, but even looking at battles such as D-Day or the Battle of the Bulge, American losses in Iraq are far below WWII battle numbers. We can argue if we should be in Iraq or not, but it is a moot point, we are there. We started it and we need to see it through to a resolution now.
To answer the original question, what do you do with a mad man that has a nuclear weapon and shows no concerns about using it? You thread very carefully. I don't even think the threat of assured destruction would prevent North Korea from using a nuclear device.

Wait for China to get pissed off. They can probably beat the whole world.

Nuke the place.
This would solve two problems.
One being getting rid of Kim. The other being reducing WoWs population by half.
(Yes, this was a joke. I seriously don't mean nuking Korea.)
The U.N. sanctions are doing little to stop them and really encourage them to continue with their nuke program (IMO). The more we isolate the country (like with sanctions), the more they push for nukes. I think China will probably have to talk to them.

The UN is full of babies. China should give a stern talking to. I still think it's funny how Team America captured Kim's appearance to the T in the movie, rofl.

If this issue of North Korea was up to me I would take away the reason they presented for the acton:
1.) Send enough of the food that they eat to stop malunirtion and death by stravaton.
2.) send medications to help cure the malnution and other major health issues.
3.) stop all shopments in or out the country that could or would produce any kind of weapons.
4.) give every house hold electriciy, a puter and a copy of AC.. They would be way to busy playing kicking monster butt to go nuts anywhere else.:p

This issue has been OF NO CONCERN to me since it came to the front pages last week. Why? Because China will lose too much face in the diplomacy community if N. Korea "crosses the line". Based on everything I've read, I believe China has a deathgrip on Kim Jong Il, and when they choose to, China can make "the N. Korea problem" go away.
When Kim Jong Il seriously starts contemplating something irreversible and horrific, China will deal with the problem swiftly and harshly. They can't afford not to.

Solving the North Korean issue is very simple. If the world would just impose a trade embargo against China or impose high tarrifs the problem would be solved over night and you can say good bye to Kim. However, there are many people at the UN who don't have the balls to call China on the mat. The ONLY reason North Korea is still a country today is because of China and all their support.
You should think very carefully who you vote for in November and in '08 because the US needs to be a voice of opposition to North Korea and any other brutal dictatorships. The US shouldn't be intimidated into a corner from a school yard bully and forced to hand over our lunch money. Enough is enough. Wack "Kim the Lunatic" and lets get back to playing AC.

Why does something need to be done about North Korea ? I ask this as a method of seeking some information. Kim Jong-il is NOT a pleasant or moral individual, I know that much. However, if the dozen or so nations that have nuclear weapons right now are allowed to keep their weapons, I see no reason why other nations should not be allowed to have them as well.
UNLESS
1) it is confirmed that they intend to use them offensively
2) the creation of these weapons exploits the people of that, or any other nation.
If the nukes start flying, I'm packing my gear up and heading into Northern Canada to build a cabin and live off the land for the next decade. I'll need a few thousand rounds of ammunition to fend off radioactive zombies too, I'm sure.

It's a well known fact that the Canadian beaver is resistant to all forms of radiation.
