Okay guys, so yeah on the main forums we are not allowed personall attacks, and we tend to bite our tongues on subjects we feel strongly about and people we feel strongly about as well. Any way was can get a NWS 18+ anything goes forum so we can truely speak our mind about eachother?

Seriously what would be the purpose for it?

Telling someone what you really think about them would not make this game better or makes anyone else's gaming experiance better. Why would you want more bickering and more poeple divided?

I fail to see how this would make anything better.

I personally like honest ruthless ideas/opinions. I hate how we have to sugar coat everything like we are in elementary school.

We have no plans to implement a forum like this.

I wouldnt mind ruthless ideas and opinions on ingame issues. IMO that is different then ruthless insults and degrading comments on players.

Well when an idea is what it is, we should be able to point that out to them in that fashion :) I'm sure you know what im going with this.

I don't care for another forum, as I can barely keep up with this one as it is. However, I hate having to play into everybody's politically correct ********.

I want to know who decided what words were bad anyways, and then I want them to justify it.

Pretty much.. But since i know they would never open the natural forums like this i figured i'd ask for a cut throat forum :)

If you can't express your opinion without the use of profanity, then you need to spend less time on the boards and more time expanding your vocabulary.

[QUOTE=Rachara]I want to know who decided what words were bad anyways, and then I want them to justify it.[/QUOTE

To paraphrase Justice Potter Stewart "Obscenity is hard to define, but i know it when i see it" Does that justify it for you?

"profanity" is part of vocabulary too. And not nearly as tabboo as it once was, I certainly have no problem with people using certain if any four letter words.

The difficulty is folks like me that consider profanity unacceptable. You curse at my home, you will first be instructed to stop, asked to leave or removed by the police.

At every place I've worked at in the past twenty it is against company policy use "profanity" in spoken or written conversation. Repeat offenders will end non-employees looking in (assuming that the verbal warning, written the warning and three day suspension without pay did not result in behavior modification).

Main Entry: ob·scene
Pronunciation: äb-'sEn, &b-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French, from Latin obscenus, obscaenus
1 : disgusting to the senses : REPULSIVE
2 a : abhorrent to morality or virtue; specifically : designed to incite to lust or depravity b : containing or being language regarded as taboo in polite usage <obscene lyrics> c : repulsive by reason of crass disregard of moral or ethical principles <an obscene misuse of power> d : so excessive as to be offensive <obscene wealth> <obscene waste>

===

Disgusting to the senses. Why should a word be disgusting to the senses? Does **** feel any more appalling than poop? Whats the difference, a rose is a rose.

The real problem is people and society, we grow up learning that these words are bad. That seeing the naked body is bad. Why can they show a man's ass on tv but not a woman's? We live our lives being told that these things are inappropriate, and so we believe them and learn to actually feel that they are inappropriate. Nobody takes the time to ask "why is it inappropriate?".

And this is coming from somebody with a vocabulary, thank you. But I am also a man of effeciency, and **** has one less syllable than rancid, and when something smells bad, I say it smells like ****. You would somehow feel more comfortable with rancid?

I hate PC as well; However, having to frame your opinion in a clear, concise, logical, and respectful manner shouldn't be that difficult for anyone

As the other poster stated, profanity is a sure sign that a person lacks more meaningful and intelligent ways of self-expression

Honestly, when I read a post that spirals down into the depths of insult and profanity, their points mean nothing to me....

It just doesn't advance your cause at all

I also would like to see less lengthy posts. Some folks create posts that are so long, they also lose me. We should all try to be more concise, more to the point

Yula that is the only time I care to watch my mouth, is out of respect for those who find it offensive. Respect is the only reasonable excuse to not curse, out of respect for others feelings. But then coming full circle, I will question why you find it offensive, because if my only reason is to not offend you, I have to wonder why you're offended.

People say that those who use profane language need to grow up, I say that those who are offended by it need to grow up and realize that their discomfort has no basis other than their inability to question what is fed to them.

Tell me how the phrase:

"That smells disgusting."

Is any less meaningful than the phrase:

"That smells like ****."

They both convey the exact same meaning, and it is done in much less time and characters. Fits into your idea that threads should be shorts. Also, considering its effeciency due to less time needed to speak/type, I would claim that it is actually more intelligent.

Edit: I gotta lay off this thread now, I've probably already caused it to be locked, if it wasn't going to be already.

I liked this as it doesnt work with the example you gave. If you were into effeciency, then you would use the "it smells rancid", instead of "it smells like ****". 14 letters compared to 16, not too mention one less word. Non profanity one wins out :p

Oh well, just thought Id point that out.

Im gonna have to say that me and rachara are on the same boat. I hate how society deems these words to be "unacceptable". But this is turning into a debate of intellegence and getting away from what the OP, myself, was posting for. If you can't handle a four letter word you have larger problems then the person using it in their vocabulary

I think there are islands open in the South Pacific where you could yells insults and use profanity as much as you want.

Leaving anyones religous beliefs of what is right or wrong.

Reality is you live in a society, you can call the society anything you want. The society determines what is crude or rude or offensive. You can be the person that bucks society all you life. It still wont change the social view and accepted behavior in a public forum or a professional forum.

There are many sub cultures in society where one may find this type of behavior socially acceptable. I think its fair to say after Frelorns post, this is not one of them.

edit: An 18+ forum isn't going to solve the problem. Everyone should be mature in expressing their opinion without resulting to insults, swearing, etc.

I beg to differ. And this will be my last post on this thread, however take a look at tattoos. Never have they been so acceptable. Society does change their views on things once brought into the light. /the end

Almost exactly my thoughts. We do not live in a vacuum. Besides written rules and laws, there is a whole slew of unwritten socially acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. That is just the way it is. In your own home you can make your own rules (to a point) but when you interact with others you more than likely will be expected to adjust. We all adjust to a certain degree; however, if you find profanity your preferred means of communication, you will be adjusting more than others.

So because you feel strongly about a subject you need to personally attack a person instead of defending/supporting the subject you feel strongly about?

I tend to say that people that use foul language need to find better words to express themselves, but that is a personal opinion.

Using foul language is different then what the original poster asked for, a forum where personal attacks are allowed. IN that case if someone thinks they need to personally attack someone to defend/support their point of view then I think they need to grow up. This applies to the vast majority of people in Congress too.

Political correctness is the term that most people use. I find it vile, oppressive and downright disgusting myself.

Last week, for example, a school district stopped teaching Mark Twain's, Huck Finn, because one of the black students (this was an honors class), didn't like the usuage of the "n" word.

The "n" word didn't mean the same thing as it did back then. You'd think that in an honors class, you could teach the freaking retarded honors student the difference in what words mean. If you really wanted to, you could teach her how her own people commonly use the word..."yo my n word".

Yet, a school district caved into political correctness, instead of teaching the girl the differerence. The story, as some of you may know, is how a white kid befriends a runaway slave...........Asheron H. Call!!!!!!!

In this day and age, when anyone can sue anyone for anything....society suffers.

Do I need the ability to swear on this forum or in game? No.
I told someone today that they didn't need to tell others to suck their fill in the blank on general chat. The reply was to squelch my general chat. So, as someone said above....its called respect....some people just don't have it.

You have the forum you want...its called your computer room at home. Cuss all you want. Call me whatever you want. Type it out, and it becomes an issue.

I have a real beef with folks who swear ig and get vulgar. Do as you wish at home or with your friends, but when it hits my eyes or ears, I have an issue with it.

Its so easy to be tough online these days. Everyone is a cage fighter and has their PHD.
