Which server do the vets recommend for a total noob? I would figure either Frostfell or Darktide as they seem to be the largest populated servers, but I don't know if, as a newb, I'd be able to handle Darktide just yet.

Welcome to AC!
What kind of player are you? It's important to find an allegiance that plays the same way as you. So that if you're an explorer you're not ignored by the power levelers and if you're a power leveler, you're not bored by the explorers ;)
You can check out the Knights of Fortune at:

We are an active allegiance on Morningthaw. We run all the large quests on our own and balance hunting and advancement with exploring and questing.

On Solclaim we have some older (and newer) guilds who are well and alive. One of them is the Crimson Knights. This monarchy was built at the start of this server and is doing great. The last few months we could greet many returning players, but also some new ones.
New players are more then welcome. We have a mature players base and we tend to socialize. Raising your character is a must to progress in this game, but helping and having time for friends is one of our high values.
We just launched our new website and we are proud to show it to the world. To contact us you can use the link under my sign or look us up in game.
But most of all: "Have fun"

Welcome to Asheron's Call! I really hope you enjoy the game. Those of us who have played for years still love it. It is rich in lore and has so much to offer new players.
I hate to say which server to join as each server wants new players. I would say, DT is probably one of the toughest servers to start on. Even folks who have played AC for years have trouble starting there.
But, if you are into PvP, post here and someone will take you under the wing and get you started.
If you aren't ready for 100% PvP, find a good group of folks to play with. The only other server that is probably not a great place to start is Verdantine due to extremely low population, unless you have someone there that can hunt with you and take you through the game.

Darktide is very hard to start out on if you don't know anybody. A lot of the more experienced players like to just kill anybody they can and don't really accept new players.
However, not all of us are that way. My clan would be more than happy to take new players under. We've recently helped over 5 starters get their levels up to over 100 very quickly.
Just send me a PM if you change your mind and decide you want to try the hardcore PvP world of Darktide. We'll take care of ya.
