Aside from LOTR.
I'd like to see the Dragonlance universe done into a MMORPG.
I believe Wizards of the Coast owns Dragonlance...and they are involved with DDO.....so.....Im counting on you Django. Ball is in your court.

"The Sims - MMORPG Developer"
You live in a world dominated by online entertainment. You and your closest friends start a new Development Company for MMORPG gaming. Work together, hire developlers, get a catchy name, use your marketing dollars wisely, and try and attract gamers to your new MMORPG. Its easy to get them there, but can you get them to stay? Now you have your chance! Make all your own Gaming Decisions! Be a MMORPG Developer!

Dragonlance or Wheel of time are 2 very popular stories.....................
Probably be real neat ta see either or both come in as MMORPG's, but then again they won't really be all that different from LOTR, and we all know where that stacks amongst all time great fantasy literature.

I would like to see them take the AC game engine and make a space version of things. Make travelling from planet to planet like portaling ot teleporting chambers.
The characters could be brought to this world by some alien race to help rid the world of these bug because the aliens are unable to fight for themselves. They have developed into non violent creature and use more primitive races to do the fighting for them.
They could even use the critters from the movie Starship Troopers. Yep more bugs but have a lot more of them attacking at a time. They could have a race of creature like from Preditor just to put out another idea. Plus other creature you can encounter on other planets could be freind or foe.
Just think of the different skills and items that can be used by the players. They could have different races to play instead of three human types.
Seems to be something they could do with little cost of creating something from scratch and it would be familure to people playing AC. Not to take away from AC but it is getting old and people are still having fun but they will need something to catch those other fans who like a good space adventure. I would keep my AC acocunt but also play the new game. It would be hard to stop playing one or the other because I love they way AC plays now over every other game I have played.
Just some things to think about.

In my opinion I don't think Turbine should make another MMORPG without first porting AC1 to a more modern game engine.

They could make Dragonlance into something similiar to AC.
The kender race could be thrown weapons/staff spec (i believe their weapon of choice was a staff/slingshot combo).
And just imagine being able to pick among all the races. There were 3 different elven nations, dwarfs, dark dwarfs, draconians, half-elves, mintaurs.
I'd love a game that was designed like AC where I could play a minotaur.

Yes. An AC3 with AC 1 gameplay would pwn even Chuck Norris. The only problem though is the work is very involved; and most devs don't want to bother with the physics of the engine, along with the many polygons required for the actions and motions of creatures. For a good game, you need good efforts. This is a good example of hard work paying off, lol. Try it and se for yourself
Turbine could probably do a decent job with the Mechwarrior universe. The allegiance / clan organization could be directly copied over. Monthly storytelling, one of the strengths of Turbine, would do well there too. However, I believe the IP is over at MS which means it would likely have to be an XBox title since MS seems to neglect the PC as a gaming platform when it comes to internal development.

Ender's Game would be cool too...lots of opportunity in that series.

I'm a big fan of Ender's Game, however, I'm not sure I'm aware of all the opportunities you mention. I'm wondering what you were thinking. It's not like a war vs. the buggers would be of any use, the humans would lose a lot then they'll get lucky, or they'll figure it out, and destroy one bugger ship and the entire thing would be over.
This is complete unofficial, of course, and more of a personal thing because I like Ender's Game.

AC3 takes my vote. Transfer existing characters, maps, quests, etc. into a whole new engine, rich with eye candy.

I guess I am of a mind to have Turbine not look at any additional games for a while.
Let's face it, AC has its niche and regardless of what is done, will never approach earlier levels of subs.
DDO needs so much TLC and work to even come near completion. They just opened up to level 12 and there is tons of content yet to be added.
LOTRO is hot and heavy with the development and beta cycle. Even at release, it will just be a shadow of what LOTRO will be over time.
They must do so much work to DDO to keep it viable.
LOTRO is the betting the farm MMO. Done well out of the gate and I think it is possible that it will give WOW a run for subs. If not, well, I don't want to think about the repercussions.
I am for Turbine to focus very hard on its future with these games and not dilute its resources with additional projects.

Turbine should invest in something other than MMO's at the moment. The market is saturated with MMO's. I think they should work on a single player RPG, set in a completely new world.
AC3 in my opinion shouldn't be made until AC1 is dead and then some. Once AC1 is finally gone, Turbine should wait a couple of years until they release AC3. Let's face it, no matter what, none of the AC1 players will like AC3. Waiting a couple years will let the players visit other games, realize they are unhappy, and when AC3 comes out they will be much happier with it. People will also hopefully have forgotten by then that AC1 died and how bad AC2 was.
Also by then they need to scrap the engine used in AC2, DDO and LotRO. It's crap. You can't even walk into a building unless you go through a load screen. AC1 is awesome with no zones and buildings you can just walk in. Now that's next-gen!

I want to see a multipurpose MMORPG next. Start out with a hub that is similar to Second Life, but less complex. Then slowly add expansions to the world - a scifi world, a fantasy world, a WWII world, a political intrigue world, a goth/punk modern fantasy world, etc, etc. Charge for each expansion you want to access. Then characters from the multiple worlds all interact socially in the hub world. I know this will happen some day.....

Django - did you read the whole series or just Ender's Game? I read to the 5th book I think, and then read Ender's Shadow.
As you get further into the books, Ender does a lot of exploration and encounters scientific issues, time and space travel, diplomatic issues. I think there is a lot of content there if not just even a model for a game. The idea that if you win the first battle you would qualify for more space expeditions. You could be the first to discover a planet and a species. New quests to make friends with native species, etc. Each world in the series has its unique challenges.
As for just ender's game, going through battle school, learning to fly the ships, the simulators, playing in the no-gravity rooms with freeze guns, etc. There is a lot of repeatable content in that space imo.
A game like Ender's Game would be a lot different than the games we see today. In addition to lore we'd see a lot of science topics and quests. It would be a challenge to make it technically correct (the science of it) without making it boring and / or too book smart for the average gamer. Still, I think there is a lot of room. Plus, Orson Scott Card is still alive and well and would dig it I think :)
If you haven't read Speaker for the Dead, you should read it. It's quite different from Ender's Game, but I really enjoyed it, almost as much as Ender's Game.
Also, I read a while ago that a movie deal is in place...so look for that.

I've read it. I'm not sure exactly why, but Ender's Game doesn't seem like a video game will exactly do it justice, possibly the same reason the movie has been put on hold/canceled for so long.
Also, I figured you just meant Ender's Game and not the entire series. Speaker for the Dead is totaly different from Ender's Game, as you said, and that's part of the reason I figured you were simply speaking of the first book.
As with almost any book series, there's plenty of information there, I'd just be worried if it were to be a game that it would fail to capture what the books are about.

I think that Ravenloft, an older ADnD world, would work well. All the cursed lands are split up, and all have a unique storyline and "feel".

Well, in all my MMORPG development and content experience...oh wait, I have none....nm.
:)
I don't know what really qualifies as a good idea for conversion to a game or not. I guess it partly depends on how much you are willing to stray from the original work to add in like content. LOTR was an easy choice. There is so much in there, so many quests, so much lore, characters, etc, wars, its easy to imagine that in a game.
The problem with Ender's game is that there isn't a clear conflict other than the buggers. But, in AC I think we see the same thing. I imagined Ender's Game (the series) as an AC-like MMORPG where exploration and questing and loot would drive the game.
It would be cool to see the MMORPGs stray some from the current genres being used. Like, why not have an old west, shoot-em-up type game. That would be cool.
Halo also seems like a possibility.

Talk to Frelorn about that, he's all for an Old West MMO.
I'm looking for a horror MMO myself, either that or SC2O, lol :)

That's why Ravenloft would work. A very nice blend of fantasy and gothic horror :D

Yea, I'll have to send Frelorn my Old West MMO proposal... I did it a few years ago and posted it at MMORPG.com... and I kinda forgot about it until GUN came out.
Man, a shooter with a MMO engine would be intense. I always wanted to try out NeoCron because it was a shooter built into an MMO engine. I think a large reason that I enjoy AC so much is that it's combat is as fast and hectic as a first-person shooter.
Old West game could lend alot of non-combat roles as well... politicians, bartenders, showgirls, musicians, blacksmiths, stable master, shopkeeper, trader, trapper, rancher, etc.
Combat roles would be large too... with Calvary, Outlaws, lawmen, bounty hunters, and gunhands.

I'm one of the hand full of people that read that book (I read Speaker of the Dead too) and went people went crazy over this book? I didn't find the story engaging, non-predictable, or that well told.

I don't know about Turbine specifically (if they did great also) but I would love to see an MMO based on the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.

This is what the next big MMO should be.
With the introduction of Wii and how you can move around to use your character, such as knocking your arrow in the zelda game, the world needs a MMO that utilizes this tech. If we could somehow harness some limited movement and actions like slashing a sword or casting a spell, the game would blow away anything, depending on the quality of the game.
If AC 3 were to be ever released and just like AC, using this tech to higher levels, expect the greatest game experience. ever
