I log in and select my server and the game pops up, the first bar fills up the the second just stays empty and eventually goes to server disconnected. Does anyone know the reasons that may cause this? I subscribed to the free trial but automatically canceled so i would not be charged, could this be a reason why it does not update? I use a linksys router btw, maybe some ports are blocked? I dunno!

Hallo Kevin,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I am not sure what is wrong. Maybe a port or the firewall is blocking something. For more detailed answers please look at the technical section of this website. I hope you can find an answer there.

I always have this problem when there's an update to the game. However, just a simple click of "cancel" on the top right and re-opening always does the trick for some reason. :-)
Enjoy your stay in Dereth! Hope you don't miss Ispar. :)

This problem as the other people have referred to happens a good deal of the time on updates. For me the answer is to start the update and sign in then close it down, then go to my ZONE ALARM client and allow the AC client full access again. This happens every update because Zone Alarm and other firewall programs notice the change and are doing their part to protect your PC.
Never fear your PC is safe with AC and you should be A OK after this.
The only other problem most people might have is when their PC (through use of another program) has changed the port. For that just reset the port as described in the help files here.

I am having the same problem and cannot seem to fix it. The game launches well enough and after I choose a server, the first blue connection bar loads quick. The the update bar does nothing until I am timed out from the server. I have forwarded the ports (9000 to 9013) on my router but this did not help. I even put my computer in the DMZ but still could not update. Changed the UserSpecifiedPort to 9001 just in case. The program is trying to connect to gls.ac1.turbine.com. Is this the correct? Also, the GameInstallDirectory in launcher.ini has a "." is this correct? I am currently trying to look at this from ever angle. I often find that these problem have simple solutions in the end but am stumped right now.

I neglecte4d to mention my voice over IP. I removed the voip device and was able to update and play. This is the first time my voip has interfered with anything. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Many implementations of VoIP use asymmetrical UDP just like AC does. In these implementations of VoIP all asymmetrical UDP packets are assumed to be VoIP packets.
So all the AC server packets are going to your phone. All your client are going to your VoIP provider. Of course your VoIP adapter and provider just go - What the heck is this stuff and throws it all quietly into the bit bucket.

I was able to remedy this issue by moving the device to this side of the router. The voip works and I can connect and play. Yula I appreciate the post as that explains alot about the not being able to update.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else - only I have none of the devices that might cause any problems. And after watching what the ac client does, I don't believe it to be firewall issues. (As it can't be on mine)
As soon as it gets done connecting the client freezes completely. You can't hit cancel, and if you do during the connection phase, the program closes. I've read on different forums that with the advent of LOTR:Shadows of Angmar turbine has/is basically turning its back on AC to the shagrin of us. (who, theoretically, should decide what they provide support for!?)
GRRRR. I'm just getting into the mmo realms and with all the positive talk and reviews I've heard bout this one, I was pretty excited to try it. OH WELL

A few more comments about things I've tried - just to circumvent useless questions: No voip, no firewall, deleted the userpreference file.
Has anyone successfully navigated around this problem? (Would actually like to play during the 14 day trial...)
