Hi, I've been reading some of the posts here so I know this is not an unusual problem, however I don't know how to solve it or if it even can be (crosses fingers). Downloaded and installed 14 day free trial, created character and entered world - UGHHHH - loads chat box, character box, etc, green link showing - no character or world, mouse pointer on hour glass. Can get no further, have tried closing firewall programes but other than that I don't know what to do. LAN connection, XP service pack 2 already installed (saw that mentioned somewhere)did the port thingy to 9001.
Someone help me.....dying to play AC again..Have even asked Father christmas :) for ToD . Why oh why is it always AC that I have problems with??

Any ideas greatly appreciated. (Speak to me S L O W L Y - i know noffin)

Thanks

There are those that are far more knowledgable on this topic than I. However, here is something you can try. I noticed that you mentioned opening ports. I had similar problems, until I turned off windows firewall, router firewall, and configured the new Norton's 2006 firewall. In addition, I have to re-configure all the ports to AC on my router before playing. I have to do this nearly every time I log in, due to the fact that my router is not static and needs directions to open ports on a daily basis. I know there are more than just the 9001 port as well. For a complete listing of ports that need to be changed, go to the official AC website. It sounds to me as though your computer IS connecting until your pc receives incoming data from the servers and then SOME program is deeming the info to be dangerous and is thus blocking it from continuing (which again could be your firewall or router). I hope that other people are able to help you in more detail, but perhaps this will get you started. Good luck, dont give up!

In addition: -> Please check out the technical issues section of these forums for questions that match your own. Perhaps you can find an answer there. Also, Turbine phone support is pretty darn good and you might want to give them a call.

Thanks for the help, being a total idiot when it comes to computers I have absolutely no idea on what to do next. I have contacted my network provider in the hope that they can shed some light, otherwise my excitment of returning to Dereth is going to be very short-lived:(

Thanks again for taking the time to answer:)

Indigo,

Maybe you must allow the program in your firewall and virus protection. So dont close these programs, just allow the execute files of AC.

This problem as the other people have referred to happens a good deal of the time on updates. For me the answer is to start the update and sign in then close it down, then go to my ZONE ALARM client and allow the AC client full access again. This happens every update because Zone Alarm and other firewall programs notice the change and are doing their part to protect your PC.

Never fear your PC is safe with AC and you should be A OK after this.

The only other problem most people might have is when their PC (through use of another program) has changed the port. For that just reset the port as described in the help files here.

If you use another client the same process works for those as well. Just allow AC and you can still run the firewall if you want which is a good idea for overall safety.
