A huge storm hit Washington yesterday and brought a few games offline this morning. Steam (used to play multiplayer in Counter-Strike) is completely down with a power outage at the moment.

I'm just suprised that the auth and world servers stayed online the whole night. It's a real good thing that they are this reliable.

Feel bad for those people in Washington. That must've been some scary stuff with the houling 100 MPH winds.

If I remember correctly, they moved the servers a few years ago.

This was a good thing with that weather out there this week.

The servers were moved from the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington a few miles down the road to an ATT data center in Washington state. The authentication and billing servers have always been in Boston inside Turbine.

The world servers came through all the storms ok.

Ah, It was the front end servers that were installed elsewhere.

I had also thought that the world servers were moved a few years ago when the office moved to California. Sounds like they were not.

I had heard that there are a number of immensly huge server farms in Washington State due to the fairly cheap electricity from dams.

It would cause all sorts of issues if those farms were to go down for several days.
