View Full Version : LotRO already the top seller at Gamestop
From the best seller list on the main page at Gamestop.com:
1. Lord of the Rings Online
2. Crackdown
3. Vanguard
4. Burning Crusade
5. Wii Adapter
6. Wii Charge station
That's pretty amazing considering it beat out WoW's expansion pack and Vanguard.

I was in the stress test this weekend, and I'm not sure exactly how stressed the servers were, but aside from some jittery town-lag, it was running pretty darn well.

Since WoW's expansion, alot of servers lag and not holding connections. Wouldnt be surprised to see some AC ppls returning because of that, so much for 7 +mil subs over there.

Awww the people who swore LOTRO would flop will be so sad.
LOTRO will do very well.
Yeah, I think LotRO will be pretty big. The reason why I believe DDO didn't so well is because it's for older RPG board gamers and not many youngsters (like myself) really experienced DDO the board game so the interest factor isn't there. With LotRO books and the recent movies, a lot of people will relate to this game. I think Turbine have another hit (AC in 1999 and now LotRO in 2007).

You know, if jeff Anderson quit his job, and was replaced by another, I'd bet money that the new CEO would be an avid AC fan and we would get some major lovin.

Turbine didn't design nor develop AC. Microsoft did.. i'm sure you're aware of that.. so in actuality it will be Turbine's FIRST big hit. heh.

Personally I don't like bursting peoples bubbles Na'gol but Turbine DID develop the AC franchise.

I don't think initial sales are an indication of a game being good or not. That should be common sense to anyone. I've joined Vanguard and while I love the game so far, there are people in general chat ranting and raving about how they want their money back already.
Judging a game by its pre-orders or first month of sales shows nothing. Im sure AC2 had decent sales its first few weeks...but alas..we know what happened after that.
So, this will probably be my last post. :) Since I don't think us unsubscribers can post after our subscription is up. Been nice battling with Lucky_WE and chatting with some of you. Take care and see you in AC3, maybe.

Well, I'm judging it on ... "other things" too.
And what the jaded, fair weather MMORPG whores think about a game after 2 days doesn't interest me ya know?
It's like Vanguard has been out 4 days or something. hehe people already wanting money back?

I won't play another Turbine game. After AC it's bye-bye Crim.

I'm interested in Darkfall, despite me disliking its lore. Although, my machine is ancient by today's standards (think viking graffiti on it...800Mhz AMD, GeForce 4400 MX, 512 DDR RAM) and thus won't be able to play it.

Hopefully they'll try to tie AC to LOTRO in some way. Like a discounted AC sub with an LOTRO sub or such or a free month of AC with an LOTRO sub. Might as well try, it couldn't hurt.
LOTRO is a good game but it isn't my kind of MMORPG. It feels more like Guild Wars than AC. They definitely went with the tried and true formula instead of a something new and daring but I'm not gonna fault them for that; I'm just not gonna play it myself.

I just preordered it. So im going to try it out and see if its the game is a good replacement for AC.

They have enough games to do a station pass like program.

The big issues for a Turbine station pass:
1) The games have different prices
2) Turbine does not get to keep all the revenue for DDO and LOTR
Point 2 seems to be the big problem. How to split a three game pass between different companies?

AC > LoTR.

I agree with the general consensus here. LotR looks as if it's a complete rip-off of World of Warcraft. The interface is, well, pretty similar, and, since it's been shown that THAT is where the money is, I'm sure it'll be very similar. The lowest common denominator is usually the target audience these days. The only reason we EVER got Asheron's Call is, firstly, because it was completely new to computer gaming, and secondly, there were no demographics to say that the majority would prefer a completely dumbed-down game, rather than an immersive, intelligent, and inspiring game.
But then again, how is Turbine supposed to steal Blizz's customers without something similar and famililar to come to? Hmmm...for some reason, I see a LOT of WoW's banned players coming to LotR....
I think Erica summarized it best when she said:
AC > LoTR

LOTRO is a complete, but also a bad, copy of WOW. There is nothing new there and it is actually very unspectacular because of their lore constraints. I don't see them adding any epic encounters for players because those are reserved for the characters in the book. So the players are always kept on the sidelines and will never have any significant power, meaning I do not see Bael'Zharons or Gaerlans of LOTRO. The players are just second rate citizens. At least in WOW you could battle some pretty cool stuff on the major instances and raids but I don't see this ever happening in LOTRO. I have been up to level 48 of 50 there and everything was surprisingly bland. In the end, there is nothing memorable.
I completly disagree.
I played WOW during open beta and then promply uninstalled it. Never looked back.
LOTRO is much better. The only place I have experience lag is in town, and what game doesn't have that? My computer is over 3 years old, so it's definatly not top of the line.
There is nothing "cutting edge" but it's definatly fun, in my opinion.
What it boils down to is "to each their own".
Find a game YOU like and play it. Let the other guy play what HE likes.

Funny, when I first logged into WoW the interface seemed very familiar.
Then it dawned on me. Wow was a complete, semi-glossed copy of AC2.
I think they might surprise you Tec.
Though the game follows the lore and story of the books, there is room for a LOT of lateral movement in the story.
