Whats is up with the download speed of the games updates?

I have a 10mbit connection and its downloading at approx 10KB/s.

I know its an old game but it doesn't have to emulate internet speeds of back then ;)

It is done that way to keep the server from crashing. It is same old patcher that Turbine wrote back in the 90's. You are correct it could be rewritten to be faster but that never happened.
