I got the free trial by download 2 days ago . I played fine with no problems until I logged out last night .friday night.
Well got up today played a couple hours and no problems again . When I tried a few hours ago to log on and play again I got a connection problem . Not like others who get all the way to to connect screen with the blue vials or the others who get into portal space , I type my name and password , click my world and hit next and bam the desktop is there but the game has closed .
Never even get a black screen or nothing .
I went so far as to rollback windows and after that reinstalled XP and formatted my hard drive . Then redownloaded the game on a fresh install of windows , updated got direct x etc etc and same thing it never gets past the initial login screen let alone a black screen or even close to the screen with the blue vials .
I have a netgear network card no router and DSL is my connection . I have no firewall and windows is set to accept all cookies low security firewall off .\
Also not a programmer or an engineer so no knowledge of how to build a modem or set ports or any other mess like that , unless specific instructions are given .
Any ideas ....

Ok well I checked last night and windows update scanned my computer and then downloaded some critical updates , I let windows decide what critical updates I needed . Tried the game again and no go . Then realized I have a DSL modem called ZyXEL Prestige 660 H . Apparently it has a router built in I think coz it has 4 LAN plugs on back you know the ethernet ports . So maybe it is a router so I got www.portforward.com downloaded the free program to supposedly open the ports for the game even though I never needed the first 2 days of gameplay . Well it didnt help . So now I went back to windows update to get the windows service pack 2 for windows update . I will post if it helps .
One last thing is my motherboard has built in LAN plug and after the game 1st started to not connect I plugged the modem into a netgear ethernet card that has always been in my computer via pci slot . After all the reinstall of windows and formatting hard drives the only way I could connect to internet was using the netgear ethernet add on pci card as it would not connect or recognize the other built in ethernet lan port on my motherboard .
But I can connect and download to internet fine so I dont know if its an issue or not . I will after SP2 update if game still does not work maybe try to turn pooter off and remove physically the netgear card then restart and see if windows will again find the built in ethernet and conns=ect that way .
Wonder if i need to change anything in the bios also ...........

your modem basically is your router. the 4 ports on it act like a switch for multiple devices.
i dont believe its a router/port forwarding issue
the device does have its own firewall - which may be the source of your problem - but thats just a guess on my part

if you can get to the internet, then dont be concerned about the extra ports on your motherboard or modem.
if you played fine 2 days ago - try and get all your physical connections back to the way they were, and start troubleshooting from there - making sure your modem didnt install a policy blocking AC

So I have concluded at this point its just not possible to get the connections back the same . Everything seems in order and internet is fine but the network card built into the motherboard is not being recognized despite many attempts to re recognize, reinstall, and a few other things . I am stuck with using the pci mounted ethernet card which is a Belkin not a netgear as previously stated . It does not matter but I must be precise in my descriptions .
So what is left is determining if the modem has blocked AC however I am unaware how to go about doing this , help would be appreciated .

When you reinstalled XP did you reinstall all of the motherboard drivers for the XP system?
You should have gotten a motherboard Driver CD that contains all sorts of drivers. Without reapplying those drivers on a clean install, you may have trouble trying to use them or other functions of the computer.
This could also affect your PCI slots.
If you do not have the CD, you will need to locate your motherboard make and model or if it is a prepackaged PC, this info is needed to go to their web site and download the drivers.
It is probably best to download fresh drivers anyway as they may be better than those on the CD.

you are certain there is no local firewall on the windows box?
if so - according to documentation from the modem manufacturer which is avaliable on their web site
try typing 192.168.1.1 in a browser address bar
the default password is 1234 which you will have to change
from there, you should be able to view your modems firewall settings
i would recommend a call to your ISP. they may provide support for you to help with the modem firewall
