Cannot get the update bar to start

Ive read every post and I know this is a known issue but I also keep reading that they found out how to make it work but they never say how they did it. Please someone help me. I use to make this game forever ago and I want to play it again so bad. =(

Here's what I found works, sometimes....

1. Go to your My Documents/Asheron's Call folder.
2. Make a backup copy of your UserPreferences.ini file.
3. Open the ini file in your My Documents/Asheron's Call folder (use Notepad) every time you want to log in, and change the UserSpecifiedPort=9000 to something between 9000 and 9013 - don't ask why but odd numbers seem to work more often...
4. Save.

This works MOST of the time and I have to change the port every single time I want to log in. It's not fun, but it's better than staring at the second vial, trying to will it to fill up for you....

I have also found that using ACDual Client (http://acdualclient.drakier.com/) and checking the Auto-Port option, then setting the range of ports, tends to work more reliably than just letting the UserPreferences.ini file dictate the port.

Best of luck, and always remember to keep an original backup of your ini file someplace safe

FYI, if you are running through a router you will have to port forward the UDP ports 9000-9013

Could you post some info, like what OS you are running?

I tried that but it didnt work. Im using Windows XP Home. This sucks.

Try to disable your anti-virus, microsoft Firewall, and also disable windows defender. Sometimes they interfere.
