I played several years ago, and was just wonder about this game about two weeks ago, and was surprised to see it was still going. So I feel like checking it out again.

I played on morningthaw and was lvl 60 - 66 UA. I hear my ingame character name is still taken. What are the chances that is my character still floating around? How would I get him back if I feel so inclined to do so? or have they done name purges in the last three years? (like they used to every couple of months)

Depends on whether:
1) you are willing to pay twenty dollars to get your old account back
2) you can remember enough information about your old account to complete the recovery.

Unless you want to get your character name back, I wouldn't spend the money. Nowadays you can get to level 60 in a few days.

I was basically wondering what it all entailed, which i havn't a clue what my zone id is ( I didn't even remember that part until I was reading the stuff needed).

Anyway. I can't get into the game - I get as far as clicking enter after selecting a character. Then it goes black and eventually looses connection. So I'm apparently connected to the servers..... annnd then it gets all snooty and stops talking to me.

As for your first question, you must have your zone details to recover your account. Here is hte FAQ for that:

As for the second issue, this is often common. You have to configure your router to allow for the ports that AC uses. Look at this FAQ Doc:

the port forwarding helped... sorta.... I can now log into the game, and see the swirly purple of doom and now the whole starter room loads (instead of staying black like before) but then i stay the swirly purple spheres and it says in portal space, please wait.... and then it drops connection. I was able to get a screenshot.

soo close... but not quite.

Do you have a Netgear router? I had a Netgear WGT624v3 and it would not work with AC. I'm sure there are other Netgear routers with the same issue. I contacted Netgear and they can't or won't fix it.

If you can return the router. If not try to trade with someone. I traded routers with my parents. I have a Belkin now and everything runs fine. Otherwise I believe you are out of luck.

I got a netgear WRT54G which I've had for about a year and a half or so. Anyway, I just canceled. ah well. was worth a shot to see how the game was =/
