View Full Version : Corrupt or deleted spell bars

It seems like the dissappearing-spell-icons-from-the-spell-tab/bars is still happening.
It is very time consuming to rearrange your spells manually, which is the suggestion provided by Urgent Assistance in-game. It is no fun to manually deal with this bug especially given the rate at which it is reoccuring.

I was having this problem a while back... logged in and out a few times...
MOST of the time it happened after +Admin Zuul booted me, whether or not that played any part in losing them... happened about 3 times :( (Other than that, I never had a problem)

I suspect that the servers do not keep backup records of your specific spellbar setup, and that any technical fix would take far longer than manually resetting them.
It may be annoying, but its not the end of the world.
I also don't consider it an 'urgent assistance' matter.

This has happened to me a number of times recently. I WOULD consider it an urgent assistance matter. As a mage, If my spell bars are empty, I can't do much. And when I login and have to tell my clan mates that I can't go on the quest that they are leaving on because I have to spend the next 30mins resetting my spell bars, that is an "urgent assistance" matter, because I'm being prevented from playing the game, due to a bug.
Each time its happened, its been when I've logged this one specific char on with my secondary computer. Never has it happened with my main comp.

I hear you Blackhawk, but I don't think there is a reasonable fix that will work in fewer than 30 mins simply due to the nature of database management, backup, and the possibility that the servers may not be in the same physical location as the Customer Servide reps you are speaking to about your problem.
conjecture: To fix this through technological means they would have to be able to pinpoint the specific data, by character, date, and server.
They would have to have an active portable backup containing only that data, and they'd have to have a way to reload it into the database and have you re-log your character to read the new data.
It sounds like a job that takes greater than 30 mins anyway I look at it.

Yea, I'm aware of the technical aspects behind this, as I'm a network engineer IRL. I'm just saying that this bug should be bumped in priority, as it seems to be happening more frequently now. After it happened the 3rd time, I didn't play my mage for a week because I was sick of going through the spell book and dragging spells out there.

Why cant you save profiles so that you can quickly reapply them, or even swap them out or copy them to different characters?

Then thank god that it's not your job to work on this product ;)

It takes more than 30 minutes to fix anything that requires a bug fix. Also, it is the developers job to fix bugs and address any issues that result in a diminished end user experience. But of course, they will apply the relatively standard formula to assessing whether or not they will do anything about it;
(cost to fix - cost of customer service related inquiries) / (other priorities + .00001) => Cost in Cancelled Subscriptions

Hehe. I hear what you mean, Chubasco.
What I mean is that Urgent Assistance should be reserved for fixable problems and for situations that make the game totally unplayable.
While resetting your spellbar is no fun, and I have had to do it myself, it is not the end of play the way a stuck-in-world situation can be.
That being said, I don't think the problem shouldn't be fixed, I just think it is not inside the purview of "Urgent In Game Assistance".

This has just recently happened to one of my characters. The others on my account are fine.
IBN (or other Turbine Staff), can you comment on this?

I had this happen recently, and had a nice chat with one of the new +Envoys about it. They are aware that it is occuring, but have yet to figure out why it is happening.

How would you feel if the problem was looked at, and the roots were traced back to say, a Buff-Bot plug-in, or to El-Tank.
In that case, the answer is simple, and that is quit using third party apps.
The devs could at any time, promote that answer into an in-game fix and we would lose the ability to run plug-ins.
Please, think about what you wish for.
Make the developers of the third party app make the fix, not the Turbine devs.
I know that cast-away hoses the spell bar, I am trying to make a mule into a buff-bot and it has some troubles sometimes along these lines.
Think before the words come off the ends of your fingers, please.

After a similar post like this on VN, I tried to make a plugin that would restore your spellbars if this happened, only to find that currently Decal plugins are incapable of adding spells to the spellbar. So, I did the next best thing which was to just show you the setup of your saved spellbar to make it easier to remember the order of spells on your bar. Not an ideal solution but the best I could do now. If the Decal devs find a way to add spells to the bar in the future I will certianly automate the plugin. You can get it here (http://decal.acasylum.com).

Kala Bon:
I think you should do the thinking before posting, especially if you don't have much technical background, as it seems from your post here. This bug has been happening with and without 3rd party apps. Both decal and ac devs are aware of the issue, and it is thought to be a CLIENT bug, not 3rd party app bug.
Thanks,
