I get this error everytime I try to create a character. It's a blue screen and I must reboot after I get it. I have the latest video driver and DX9c. I have a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 with 128MB. 1GB System Ram on an XP MCE PC. At the bottom of the blue screen with this error it mentions the file nvmcp.sys.

nvmcp.sys is a driver for the onboard audio of a motherboard that uses an nForce chipset. It suggests that you are using onboard sound and not an audio card. If you ARE using an audio card, then I would guess that you didn't succeed at completely disabling the onboard sound.
If you are using onboard sound, then you should first try to update your audio driver-- I think it's AC '97 by Realtek. (the AC has nothing to do with Asheron hehe) I don't have a link to update it, but google should find you one pretty easy.
If that doesn't help, I read of one method that may. You go to Start->Run and type in "Dxdiag" (without the quotes). Then go to the "sound" tab, and hopefully see a slider bar for "hardware sound acceleration". Move the slider all the way toward the lowest setting (disabled). Save or Apply if you have the option. Exit the window, and go log into the game. Go all the way until you have a character in the world of Dereth. Then log out and close down the game completely. Now go back to the Dxdiag panel and move the slider back to where it was. For at least one other person, this cured the problem.
Good Luck
