An Adventurer

First, it seems all we have had lately for live events are monster raids and monster spawn requests. These live events are probably simple to put together but not that much fun. heres why:
- they have to be challenging to higher levels, meaning most people below 130-140 wouldn't be able to help much. And if you did do one aimed towards lower levels the high levels would either kill everything or have to be excluded in some way.
- They create a lot of lag for most people, with the 20-50+ players all in one spot along with 100s of monsters and corpses and spells flying around.
- They aren't that creative. A town is under attack. People show up, +turbine keeps spawning stuff for 10-15 minutes. Maybe there is a boss creature, maybe not. Everything gets killed, people go back to hunting/quests.
I'm not saying stop doing these kind of events. Just throw in a bit of variety. Here are some other types of events. Most have already been done, but not since the days when Jolt ran the events.
1) Escaped criminal Events
This was a Jolt Event. When they ran it, there would be a "royal guard" character that asked for help tracking down an escaped criminal or bandit. The Royal Guard and bandit would be in communication, with the bandit feeding the guard information about his or her location for the guard to broadcast in globals every few minutes. The Bandit would be PKlite. Players could choose to help the royal guard and kill the bandit, or help the bandit by leading them to their cottage/villa and letting them inside.
If done today there could be many different versions of this quest:
- Viamontian Royal Knights need help tracking down an escaped prisoner, who could be a captured Silyun Rebel or a Whispering Blade member.
- Elysa's Royal Guard need help capturing a Bandit/murderer/rogue Rossu Morta member
- The Bandits of Bandit Castle need help killing someone from their ranks that betrayed them.
Pros:
- Its a simple event to put together. Only requires 2 characters, and 1 +turbine could controll both with side by side computers.
- Not much lag created as its just players chasing down another player.
- It allows players to make a choice. They can help the guard or the criminal.
Cons:
- The events can take a while to complete, especially if the player(s) decide to help the criminal and have to lead him/her to a cottage/villa.
2) Scavenger Hunt/Hide and Seek Events
This type of event could be done in a variety of ways:
- +Turbine hides somewhere, broadcasts globals giving clues to their location. First one there wins.
- +Turbine creates a list of items needed. Can include monster trophies, quest items, specific loot gen items (a sandstone mug, a work 4 iron weapon, etc). A time limit is given, who ever has the most items from the list at the end wins.
- +turbine creates a multistep scavenger hunt. They spawn items at the locations which don't decay (until +turbine deletes them at end of event) which give the clues to the next location. When all items are in place, +turbine sends out a clue in a global for the first location. +turbine waits at the final location to hand of prizes.
Pros:
- No level restrictions, other than maybe 40 or 50+ to be able to safely make it to some locations.
- Tests players' knowledge of the land and points of interest. More creative than "kill monsters till they stop spawning"
Cons:
- Would take a while to set up, especially choosing locations and clues.
- Can last for over an hour. Which some might count as a pro :P
3) Crafting events
This is another Jolt event. They would have someone request some crafted items or tinkered items. If tinkered, all the tinkering would have to be done in front of the +turbine.
Pros:
- easy to create. Just pick some crafted items and then send out a global.
- Something that doesn't involve combat for once.
- All levels can participate
Cons:
- Doesn't involve combat. some people won't like that.
4) Last man standing events
This was done a few times before with Jolt. Players are teleported to an otherwise unreachable piece of land. An island, an unclimbable plateau, and such. +Turbine begins to spawn creatures. Players begin to die. Last one alive is the winner. After event is over +turbine teleports everyone back to area to recover corpses.
Pros:
- Fun event, more creative way to use monsters for a live event.
Cons:
- Semi-level restricted. Anyone could go, but if you don't have enough health or any major wards you will probably not survive.
5) Lore Quiz
+turbine creates a list of lore related questions. Fastest person to answer wins. +turbine keeps track of # of wins, updating everyone on the score throughout the quiz.
Pros:
- Great event for people that love the lore.
Cons:
- Great event for people that love the lore ;)
EDIT:
One last thing I forgot to include.
when you do events, do them in character. There was an event on LC last month where Mayoi was attacked by drudges and mosswarts. When it was over, +turbine whoever showed up, thanking us for saving mayoi. Why not +Mayor of Mayoi, or something like that? It ruins the feel when you do that. Just use +Royal guards or whatever fits for the event. For example, the last man standing events could be virindi experiments, lead by +Leodante, Virindi Observer (or whatever).

Ohh man scavenger hunts and last man standing sounds like they would be a lot of fun. Personally I have only been to the spawn monsters for 15 minutes and kill til all dead type live events but they were fun for what they were. Would def. like to see some of these older events brought back.

Some great ideas there Adventurer. I like the criminal idea, definitely something unique and sounds like fun.
How about a "storm the castle" event? Maybe Asheron's castle or Lytlethorpe gets taken over by critters and it has to be stormed to be liberated? I guess that's similar to a town raid but the advantage here would be with the ones holding the location. You have a choke point where the players would have to punch through in order to reach the commanders in control of the keep.

This is an idea for a MAJOR event. It would take a while for the actual complete details to be formulated, but this is a base idea. Bear with me, please.
The silence of peace will be once again shattered...
Not by the armies of the undead, nor shadows, nor virindi...
A being of power many times greater than the hopeslayer has travelled through many dimensions, destroying planet after planet after planet, annihilating anything in her path... Sometimes slow, sometimes in an instant, and now this threat comes to Dereth...
[1] Background
So basically this goddess with incredibly destructive power has come to have her fun. After she's done, she'll blow the planet to oblivion. We cant have that, now can we? This begins with the appearance of this being somewhere in Dereth, whom then proceeds to go about killing everyone... And she is powerful enough to kill even the toughest player in a single shot with her insanely powerful (we're talking level 30 spell powerful) chaotic magic. Desperate, the people seek the guidance of Asheron, whom then gives them an item. This item is a gem to absorb a small amount of the energy directed at the player. The player would have to seek out the goddess and sacrafice themself to gather the energy into the stone. They then return to Asheron and return the empowered gem to him. He then gives them back two items - Gem of Chaos Ward and Gem of Chaotic Destruction. The Gem of Chaos Ward will shield the user against the magic of the goddess by 2000% for 1 Day, though her spells will still hit fairly hard, they wont hit hard enough to instant kill anymore, and luckily for those dumb enough to use the gem without thinking, this is repeatable, though the player cannot recieve another Gem of Chaotic Destruction. The Gem of Chaotic Destruction will infuse any weapon with Chaos Rending.
Chaos Rending can add several things...
Chaos Rending goes as follows:
Melee Weapons: Chaotic Strength (Strength + 30, layerable) Chaotic Drain (Decreases users endurance by 30 and max health by 20) Critical Strike, Crippling Blow, Chaotic (Damage is extremely random, hits might sometimes even heal an opponent, striking values can go up to 250% normal and down to -100% Normal for healing effect)
Ranged Weapons: Chaotic Perfection (Coordination + 30, layerable) Chaotic Stress (Stamina will degenerate instead of regenerate, accuracy decreased 15%) Critical Strike, Crippling Blow, Chaotic (Damage is extremely random, hits might sometimes even heal an opponent, striking values can go up to 250% normal and down to -100% Normal for healing effect)
Parchment: Chaotic Magic imbued weapons will not be done. Instead, use the Gem of Chaotic Destruction on a Parchment to create a War Magic scroll. The spell is equiv to a level 8 and requires maxed War Magic to cast correctly. Furthermore, if this spell fizzles, 5% of Health, Stamina and Mana are drained.
Spell: Chaos Sphere (Fires a massive sphere of red energy at the target, draining 20% of casters Health, Stamina and Mana to deal 180 - 300 points of Chaos Damage to target) - Side Note: This would add a whole new level to PvP.
After that's all done with, players will have to coordinate efforts to kill (banish) this goddess from the planet forever. After they succeed, Asheron uses all the gems collected to create a crystal spire high in the sky which projects an energy barrier to block this goddess from entering by any means.
Quest added: Chaos is Here.
After the live event would end, a new quest could be done by those who could not participate in the live event. This quest would lead them into a deep dungeon to destroy a follower of the goddess whom uses the same elemental spells the goddess uses, only way way less powerful (Level 7 spell equiv). She drops a Chaos Fragment which can be used to imbue a weapon with Chaos Rending or used on a parchment for a war scroll, and can only be done once.
Items added:
Gem of Chaos Absorbtion
Gem of Chaos Ward
Gem of Chaotic Destruction
Chaos Fragment
Scroll of Chaos Sphere
Chaos imbued weapons
Possible additions:
1: Chaos Rend gems used on Singularity Weapons to create Chaotic Singularity weapons.
2: Chaos Rend gems used on wrapped bundles of arrowheads to create Lethal Chaos Arrowheads, which would be used to make Lethal Chaos Arrows (Bow 300+ to wield) which would do 4.2-95 Chaos Damage with cast on strike spell called Chaos Drain, which drains target of 10% of their mana upon hit, but also causes a chain reaction with the person firing the arrow, draining 5% of their health.
Asheron tells you, "Chaotic Energy is not to be taken lightly. It can potentially cause as much harm to the one wielding it as the one it is directed at. Use it with caution."
WARNING: If you die from the recoil of a chaos rended weapon or spell, you will lose TWICE the amount of normal Vitae! This does not count being killed with a Chaotic Energy weapon or Spell, just having the backfire kill you.
[2] New Creatures
The goddess: The goddess' name would of course be chosen by the AC team. She would be way too high level for a player to kill normally, about level 5000. She would have almost normal stats, except for Focus and Self, which would be through the roof. This is the one used for live event.
Goddess' Follower: She'd be about level 300ish with high stats, and powerful magic.
Chaotic Shadow: Seems a small group of shadows were morphed by the power of chaos. Level 400ish, very hard to kill, perhaps very rare VoD/Dires spawn.
[3] New NPC's
Chaos Master: This NPC could be added to sell new scrolls of War Magic school. Levels 1 - 7 of Chaos Bolts/Arcs, which do 20% less damage than normal but everything the player used this against would be slightly weak against this element. Ring spells could be a quest item dropped rarely by the boss of the ''Chaos is Here'' quest.
Final Note:
My grounds for suggesting something of such massive proportions is I believe players are searching once again for that epic event like the one involving Bael'Zharon to revitalize Asheron's Call. I, too, have felt this urge. This event would not only add a trememndous amount of interest in Asheron's Call, but a new level of gameplay. I am aware of the amount of work that would be required to do this, but it would definately be worth it. Please take this into consideration, that is all I ask.

I love being creative, and i'm a roleplayer to boot and I love to write. What especially makes me happy is mixing this with my favorite game of all time, Asheron's Call. If any of my ideas can be used at all, or even portions of them, and if they could help bring more life to the Asheron's Call community, it would make me as well as many others very happy. They say there is always one person out there for you - this is the one game for me. I will likely be posting much more in this thread, so please check often.
One other thing has been bothering me, and I shall ponder hard on this one - what could be done to salvage that has no apparent use.. It's making my brain melt! Everything should have -some- use, after all.

Could have a boss monster spawn, but instead of having it be one that has insane health, could have it with fairly low health (10k or so) and just hit like a tank, cast level 7 vulns/wars as fast as a wisp, etc. It would create a real challenge instead of just having people hit "Run Macro" and wait for the 10 million health monster to die 3 hours later.
EDIT* On a side note, I love that one guys post about the Chaos items. That would be an amazing addition to the game. :D

Since I seem to be on a creative bend, I have assembled yet another idea. I spared any extremely deep details to give a basic idea. Here is my idea.
[Imbued Salvage Idea, Version 1.0 by Krystal T'koi]
One thing I have noticed that gives a game a lot of playability is possibility. The more of it, the better. The further boundries are expanded, the further the player can go explore, yes? "I'm going to hang up this phone and then i'm going to show these people something that you don't want them to see: A world where anything is possible." ~ The Matrix
This is a quest idea for a innovative item, and the ability to create something truly epic: Imbued Salvage.
What do I mean by "Imbued" Salvage? No, I don't mean bags of salvage with rending and the like, though it is similar in nature. It all starts with the quest to obtain the item. this item does not have a name, but for now let's call it the Philosophers Stone. The basic idea behind the stone would be to use it like a mana stone, gathering mana from items until it had approximately 1,000,000 stored mana. Once that is achieved, the Philosophers Stone could be used on a bag of salvage to enhance it. This could be done 10 times with a single stone until it broke. After it broke, the quest would have to be redone.
Any salvage imbued with the stone automatically becomes Workmanship 10 as well.
Example:
Philosophers Stone is used on Bag of Steel (100) of workmanship 2.00
The energy within the stone binds itself to the salvaged steel, reshaping it in perfect form.
Bag of Imbued Steel (100) of workmanship 10.00 is obtained.
Imbued Steel (100): Apply this material to a piece of treasure generated armor to increase the armor level by 30.
With iron, damage would be increased by 1.5 ETC ETC.
With rending Salvage such as Red Garnet and Black Opal, imbuing this salvage converts the maximum chance of successful application to 74.99% which is very decent for that type of salvage.
The quest would have a timer of about 1 Month, and would be long, but would allow anyone level 100+ to solo it - it would just take longer. This would help to balance it out a bit.

I love pets
I would like a hookable way to pop over to my house and remote control my pet to gain her xp and make her more powerful.
Of course there would be rules like if she dies, then I get vitae or each pet would have different skills... for instance, an ursuin couldn't really lockpick or something... But My baby penguin could cast spells or something, but couldn't really wield a battle axe...
Maybe if there was a questable way to alter the crates (igloos, and such) so that they would be hookable, and therefore when we used them, then our view changed to that of the pet until we exited. Also the pet's LS would be it's crate. And you cannot exit pet mode unless the pet was at the house to use the crate.
Also I would like to be able to name the pets.

Last night for me (that I discovered this forum). I've been thinking of so many neat things and just didn't know where to throw ideas. I certainly hope some will like my ideas. Some may be a bit out there, I know. I'd love to know from AC Staff if any of my ideas have been considered before, and if perhaps they are doable.
I think an interesting thing to do would be to have people throw ideas, have a few picked out and then have people vote on them to see which type of ideas are best liked.

1) Capture the Bandit Events:
While more complicated for the Live Event folks, possibly have more than one bandit.
Scenario: The notorious Drudge Mask bandits have escaped from prison. This group of fairly silly and uncreative bandits, are anything but disloyal, and will do everything in their power to free one of their own if captured.
Players must capture all four of the bandits within 30 minutes. Any 'freed' bandits will undoubetly free their friends, and those trying to capture the bandits will need to start over in hunting down the newly freed bandits.
Flaggings for rewards:
1) If you've attacked a bandit, and the 30 min are up with all 4 captured, you are flagged to get a reward.
2) If you've taken a bandit to your house, or kept them free, for the 30 minutes, the bandit will give you some of their horde.
Generally, it's easy for people to just hit the delete key and 'win' one of these events because they've got a good template and gear. However, to win this if you're going to capture the bandits, you may need to organize which groups are after which bandits. This also lets people of any level use persuasive techniques to get the bandit to come with them. Hey, who knows, maybe on the other side of that portal isn't freedom...
Will the bandits take revenge on those who've betrayed them!?!?
2) Scavenger Hunt:
Scavenger hunts aren't bad. The deal with them though is that items that spawn on the ground are replicated again when picked up, and I believe this is done by the server. It may be taxing for Live Ops to continually monitor places where the items are to ensure there's stuff there to be picked up.
Also, there's not a lot that can prevent a group from working as a team. Only way would be to have one person hand in items that were not giveable to another player... But hey, maybe working as a team is an ok thing. It does leave a sour taste in some people's mouth knowing they couldn't win because they were competing against a lot of folks (4 are getting items, 2 are using maggie's search feature to find items, another finding best routes to locations, another looking up lore...).
I normally like scavenger hunts. I just don't like how people can circumvent the challenges of it so easily.
3) I'm not a big fan of crafting events. To me, it feels like it all boils down to whoever has pack-ratted the crafting items, can get their mule their, and clap their hands. I just don't see skill or challenge in it.
How about this though: Attention! Iron Chef Cookoff! Bring your chefs and recipes to Holtburg June 27th through June 30th! <List World Event dates and times>. Live Event Judges will be present to take part in the first annual Iron Chef cookoff, where contestants will be asked to create 7 dishes in 30 minutes from the variety of items placed on the prep table.
- The items on the prep table could be stuff we currently have ingame, but mostly to have other stuff that's not currently in game, which will create new recipes. The foods created from the event could be their own reward, plus XP, title, and possibly a tradesmule rare. You might create a Lobster Bisque that restores 120 Health and 150 stamina. The thing is, the items to make these are spawned by the Live Events guys, so you can't really mass produce these like stuff you can buy at vendors.
4) I like Last Man Standing events, but they can be rather heavily dependent upon gear and template. I'll go grab a couple shields, salted meats, and some herbal kits... maybe a couple rares...
In theory, it's good, but I think there'd have to be some level ranges on who'd go. Like 40-60, 61-80, etc. It's hard to restrict people from using rares.
Also, there's no real reason to kill creatures. The point, in my mind, is to not have creatures attacking me, so much as getting them to attack others.
I liked some of the events where a group would get teleported to an island, and if they beat the creatures that spawned, they'd get portalled back and get a prize.
5) Lore quizes are nice... so long as at the end of the event the Live Ops folks can turn them all Pink so they get beat up by the bullies.
-------------------------------
1) I like fighting stuff that takes strategy and a lot of coordination. So, if you have stuff that people will do better if they have some descent coordination, and descent strategy, I think some folks will dig that. I don't expect everyone to like playing AC at my level or depth of strategy and coordination. In fact, it's hard for me to find folks who know how to fight like they -should- : )
- Fighting choices. Take out the boss, or take out the minions, and then focus on the boss.
--- Wasp Hives, like you might find on Aerlinthe.
--- Saving Asheron & the General + Ritualist dynamic.
--- Variety of creatures for each class (DI: Shadows, Mukkir, and Sleeches)
...
...
..
I'll post more another time. Just not into it right now.

Basically, this idea is not for an event itself, much like Idea #2, but possible addition that could occur during an event. This idea involves alchemy. To be more specific, the progression of alchemy into a dangerous area, where one could heal more moderately but with a certain risk involved. This is my idea.
[Alchemy Advances idea version 1.0, by Krystal T'koi]
Alchemy; it's a wonderful skill that has a large array of possibilities. In modern days, it is known as chemistry and is used to formulate things we use every day from the Mountain Dew in my glass to the medication that keeps people from going crazy.
It is a wondrous yet at the same time potentially dangerous skill. However, in Asheron's Call, it has been utilized plenty yet there is still something lacking. With the recent update, alchemal grenades were introduced. While an interesting advancement, it has proven to be of little help other than giving players with maxed out alchemy skill the ability to very quickly vuln targets, and only with level 6 spells.
So, what else can be done? First off, i've found that with the level cap at 275, there is a certain need for better healing capabilities. Trade elixers are nice, but what if they can be taken a step further? I know what everyone is thinking. "But monsters drop the better potions. Giving players the ability to create superior healing potions will unbalance the game." - This is untrue. If anything, it will give more of a challenge and motivation. There are many ways that the effects of a potion could be powerful, but could have limitations to balance it further.
For instance - The potion could also cast a low level debuff on the person drinking it for a very short amount of time, say 10 seconds. It could even be a vuln. When I observed an animated series called Full Metal Alchemist, a show which is of the genre known as Anime, I first heard the term "Equivalent Exchange". It was the basis for all alchemy in the show - to gain something, something of equal value must be lost. This is the rule of Equivalent Exchange. Though the form of alchemy on the show greatly differs from Asheron's Call, the same principle applies to the alchemy of Asheron's Call.
When one brews a healing potion, they sacrifice their own health to produce them. This is the Equivalent Exchange in the alchemy of Asheron's Call. Perhaps it is possible that a more enthusiastic NPC of Asheron's Call is holed up somewhere experimenting with dangerous alchemal fromulas - medicines with side effects, to put it simply. I will now give an example of this.
Trade Health Elixer is our starting product.
Several special ingredients would have to be gathered to produce the agent to mix to create the resulting item:
Powerful Health Tonic.
Powerful, indeed. It restores 150 health to the player. That's an excellent plus... But, what is the Equivalent Exchange?
"A potion that draws power from the person drinking it, weakening them yet healing them as needed... Such a dangerous thought, yet the possibilities.... So So vast.. Sacrificing something for greater gain is worth it, yes? Perhaps.. Certainly.. Indeed!" ~ Ravings of the Mad Alchemist
As the potion is ingested; the magical properties seep into the body and heal it deeply, yet an odd, uneasy feeling is produced.
There are several methods of approaching the negative effects.
1: Set effects.
Set effects, makes it simpler. Perhaps the potion just casts all the level 4ish vulns on the person drinking it for 10 seconds.
Would make it easier to create, yes.
2: Random Effects.
Nothing makes a person more uneasy than not knowing what the effects of a medication can be. It could be anything from an innocent level 1 fire vuln to a level 8 equiv Imperil. Scary thought, no?
3: Skill based, set.
Well, we got a SMART potion now. One that will automatically calculate the drinkers weaknesses/critical skills and cast the appropriate debuffs.
We now have the possible repercussions of use of this special medicine. But, why stop there? Why not add certain potions that allow rapid regeneration, where 10 points are recovered every 2 seconds for about 20 seconds, but in exchange stamina, mana or health will degenerate an equivalent amount? Or you could use the debuffs. At any rate, the same rule of Equivalent Exchange applies.
However, what if there were a tonic that restored all three at once? Health, Stamina AND mana. Well, that would be just splendid, yes? Well, it depends. These would come with risks of their own as well.
Why stop there? Lets apply this form of alchemy more to healing kits to enhance them, but this having a dangerous effect as well in a similar manner. Why? Why not!
Naturally, these items would be more burdenous as well. Give the players the ability to compensate for high damage opponents, but at the same time do not make it easy for them.
This is it for version 1.0 of my Alchemy Advances idea. Hope you guys like it. ^^

Thank you for the great ideas. The Devs, QA and OCR do read this forum and very well may incorporate some of your ideas into future content as some of the ideas would certainly require dev and engineering time.
I'd like to hear more ideas on things that could, (just to take it to the extreme), be run tomorrow. Things that use the current tech and would not need dev time, QA time etc. I've already taken a couple of the ideas from this forum and they will definetly be added to the event list in the future after I get a chance to work out some of the finer details, test some things etc.
So the forum has been up for what, 2 days, and you've already given me at least half a dozen great ideas to work with. Thank you so much.

One idea I was thinking about is a cahllnge to our players minds. Like in the Gaerlan Citadel make a series of dungeons that are a maze, a series of riddles, with great xp a title and a useful item at the end, depending on your weapon skill.
Most of the event's ive seen are based on how much a player ahs macro'd, how rich they are etc, the higher the level the better u do, how about an equal opportunity event where a lvl 30 could outdo a lvl 275. Would be interesting to have some non combat events, jsut make the rewards worth it.
