Probably not enough time for this but.....

Could maybe the Dev's or +Envoys or whomever put on a fireworks display for all of dereth, say at the Festival Grounds.

Our monarchy did this last year. We had mages on each of the four towers and the one in the middle, we had a whole series of spells that we did together, timed just right.

I am sure it would be easier for you guys to do this and possibly then things could fall on the ground that we could pick up and when we click on them, we set off fireworks much like when we use to level to 126 or when we max out a skill, or maybe just a little something different.

Just a fun thing that might be cool for people to come see and participate in.

This is a great idea, but I don't think it would be possible in the current tech.

Not in the tech? Click a gem that casts a spell. The spell's graphic could be the fireworks that happen when you max a spell. Also use whatever spell animations we never see, like those massive rings I remember seeing in the Martine videos. I'm not sure what else Turbine has hidden away.

couldnt you just cement some of those fireworks things from the newyears celebration, or one of the snowblowers somewhere and let it be clicked? (or just set it off like the old town statues that cast spells when people were near?)

just an idea

Yup and I know Grael sets off a couple pretty cool spells that would light up the place as well.

Shoot, just give 4 or 5 npc's the ability to do it. We give them an MMD or something and they shoot off some fireworks for us. Or .... set up a Fireworks Vender, and we can purchase gems like from the wedding quests.

Is July 4th Asheron's birthday or something? To my knowledge the date of July 4th doesn't even exist in Dereth.

I know it's a long shot, but if you use Google Earth you can see that there's more land outside than inside of North America.

People outside the U.S.A. actually have internet and some do play Asheron's Call too.

But fireworks are fun, let's have them on every national holiday for every nation that has people playing AC

That rich coming from you ... after your post about not doing things on Chirstmas.

I don't believe a fireworks display would affect anyones playing whether you live in the U.S or not. If you wanna play then play no where did she say you had to stop and watch the show. It's a holiday that we celebrate as I am sure there are some that you might celebrate that we do not. To each his own. I don't believe there was any special favor asked for by Sweet it was just a suggestion which I think would be a rather cool idea. And when a holiday comes that you celebrate that we don't I don't believe we would post any remark about that.

Me, posting about Christmas? I wasn't playing AC around Christmas so I can't imagine I posted about that.

Anyway, I believe it's silly to add in game events related to real life, especially when they are only based on the culture/history of one (group of) nation(s).

They've had a leprechaun on St Patrick's Day (Irish holiday), EVERY year they do something special for Halloween (druidic/wiccan holiday) like masks, guises, etc..., Easter (religious holiday) gets special bunny visits and this year there was Frankenchicken or something?

If this was a first time foray into real world holiday requests or activities there might be a leg to stand on, but the precedent has been set, numerous times.

Let there be fireworks!

Christmas weekend would be a HORRIBLE weekend to do double XP, many (if not most) players will be spending time with their families, often in locations where they don't have AC (yes there are places where there is no AC  ).

I didn't mean to be overly nasty ... but the original request was for something as one location (festival grounds) and didn't warrant your sarcasm.

Every time some one says something regarding a holiday (national or religious) it gets the same type of "mean spirited" comments.

Sometimes the original post calls for it by insinuating one religion or country is better than another ... but here the person just asked for something fun.

Last time I checked Turbine is an American business located in America--I believe they're entitled to celebrate July 4th in their American-made game if they so please.

However, if you have such an aversion to all things American, perhaps you ought to choose a French made MMORPG instead? Just a suggestion.

The christmas thing you quoted is a very old comment and was aimed at Turbine not to do special XP things in the Xmas weekend, not because it was Xmas related (which it wasn't) but because many people would miss it due to family visits.

My having an aversion to things American or not has nothing to do with it. I am not talking about Turbine, about businesses I am talking about the fantasy world of Asheron's Call.

Since when is Dereth located in the USA or on the planet Earth for that matter?

I very much dislike references to RL in fantasy worlds, be it American, French or Japanese. If I want to experience real life I can just go outside. Reallife references polute the lore and the experiences in a fantasy game.

But you have to understand ... RL bleeds into gaming all the time.

I have attended two in game ... "rememberances" for people who died in RL. I even reported one for the AC vault column I used to do.

I got an email from the person's wife (who didn't play AC) thanking me ...

The point being is that people bring RL into their games. They want to celebrate things with their friends who might not be friends the see in RL .. they are friends none the less.

You should take your own advice and go outside because that post was truly pathetic.
