View Full Version : Geneva's Trade Requests!

Geneva

What exactly is Geneva's Trade Requests? I'm glad you asked. Here's how the event will work.

I will setup in one of the starter towns and I'll send out a "Trade Request" on Trade Chat. The Trade Request will involve one of the tradeskills in Dereth and I ask you, the players, to fulfill my Trade Request. Trade Requests will involve Cooking, Alchemy and the Tinkering skills. For each Trade Request I make, you will have 15 minutes to fill the request. Once the 15 minutes is up, I will issue another Trade Request. Here's an example:

[Trade] +Geneva says, "Trade Request: Cooking! Please bring me a large pizza with extra Drudge Sausage! You have 15 minutes."

You must then whip up a Large pizza with extra Drudge Sausage and bring it to me.

I will send out alerts every 5 minutes on Trade chat as we draw closer to the 15 minute limit for each request so you are aware of how much time you have left to make me the pizza.

Each player that brings me a pizza and drops it in a trade window will win a prize. These prizes are pre-determined depending on what tradeskill the request involves. For example each Cooking Trade Request has a set reward. But wait...there's more! Not only will you get the Cooking set reward for bringing me the pizza, but you will also get a second reward, and YOU will determine that prize. How you ask?

I have created a list of 100 rewards. After seeing your item in a trade window that fulfills my Trade Request I will ask you to pick a number between 1 and 100. You will need to send me your number choice through a tell. I will then check the list to see what prize is listed at your number choice and you will get that prize as well!

After a player chooses a number and gets their prizes, the list will shuffle around. The items will not change, but they will now be associated with different numbers. This means that the prize at number 73 for one player may not be the same prize for the next player that chooses 73.

I would prefer that any item traded to me during the event is given to me by the character that made the item (your Cook, your Alchemist etc). I won't enforce this because I realize some trademules may have a rare running and I don't want that to expire in order for you to participate in the event. Brush the dust off those mules and bring them out of the basement into the Derethian sun for an event that has their name written all over it!

Darktide
Geneva's Trade Requests will be run differently on Darktide. I don't want players to be standing around only to get slaughtered by a roving band of thugs. So, if you complete a Trade Request on Darktide, send me a tell and I will teleport to your location (the safety of your house for example) to complete the trade and for you to choose your random number.

SCHEDULE
Frostfell * Sun Aug 5th - 9pm EST
Harvestgain * Sun Aug 5th - 10:30pm EST
Leafcull * Mon Aug 6th - 9pm EST
Morningthaw * Mon Aug 6th - 10:30pm EST
Solclaim * Tue Aug 7th - 9pm EST
Thistledown * Tue Aug 7th - 10:30pm EST
Verdantine * Wed Aug 8th - 9pm EST
Wintersebb * Wed Aug 8th - 10:30pm EST
Darktide * Thu Aug 9th - 9pm EST

After the scheduled events are run, I will be hosting Geneva's Trade Requests at random times in the future. I think this event will be alot of fun and some of the rewards on the 1-100 list are quite nice. :)

*sigh*.. I know you have to cater for the majority, but still.. for those of us in UK, that's 2am / 3:30am. Any chance of having another event like this around 3-4PM EST? That'll be around mid-late evening in most of europe.

1. Don't do it on general chat. I don't listen to it, and I know many other players don't due to all the pkl kiddies. Perhaps do it on the Roleplay channel, or better yet just use your admin powers and do world broadcasts.

I think this is getting kind of stupid. I have been back for two months and there have been no live events related to story or anything. Last month was a PKL tourney. For me it was like whoop-de-do, I'm a level 80 sword character with no rares who would be competing with 275's popping rares. Why do it?

This month it's a crafting tourney? That is really dissappointing. I guess something major needs to happen with the story so we can have a decent live event that everyone will participate in again. Because there is no way I am participating in this.

Give us some better live events that everyone can participate in if they so choose. At least back when the Burun were coming to Dereth everyone was in Hebian-To fighting them. When the eaters invaded Rithwic, everyone was there. Give us story.... Give us events.... Dereth is to quiet lately.

I think this is a great idea!

>I think this is getting kind of stupid. I have been back for two months and there have been no live events related to story or anything.

Turbine just finished a storyline with live events, BUR for example, there can not be an active story line constantly and it seems to me that the current storyline is working towards its climax so who knows what will happen and maybe if you played consistently, you would be around for live story events.

I'd be thoroughly impressed if someone was able to make a bunch of everything. You'd be surprised at how many items there are in AC. I'll just say this, you won't be making Applesauce or Fire Infusions for Trade Requests.

LOL @ this idea.

Alchemy, Cooking and Tinkering are carebear? It must be tough playing your character with no stat beers, no dyed armor, no PDI weapons, no Trade Health Elixirs and no tinkered armor or weapons.

Oh I forgot to mention, after the event, we are all going to hold hands, sing KumBaYah, hug a few trees and then all us o.Os are going to GB2FF.

1. Don't do it on general chat. I don't listen to it, and I know many other players don't due to all the pkl kiddies.
Hmmm, noted. Ok, I will use the Trade channel instead of General, I would prefer not to send out so many broadcasts because I don't want to disrupt or annoy the players that are not taking part in the event. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dunno if you caught it last time, Geneva, but...

1) Only a particular % of the playerbase listens to Gen Chat. Your events will continue to have small numbers when you use this as your only source of communication.

2) Last time, you asked for people to send you their name for the PKL tournament via green text... which had -nothing- related to who you are in order to actually respond to it.

----------------

I could use some help where there's excitement, challenge, or fun in this. Crafting really isn't my cup of tea. Folks can take away a lot of the challenge in this pretty easily.

I load up my crafter with several of each cooking item, turn on MakeIt, click on recipe, hit start.

Basically, I win prizes by having a mule prepared using a 3rd party app.

Am I missing what people find exciting about these events!?

----------------

As I posted before, I'd much rather see Devs spawn new ingredients, and the players have to come up with new recipes. The new items they create can even be the rewards. The ingredients are only spawned by Devs, so they control how much of that item is ingame for balance issues.

Dunno what the big deal is about making them, and it would be more exciting for me to participate in.

Oh I forgot to mention, after the event, we are all going to hold hands, sing KumBaYah, hug a few trees and then all us o.Os are going to GB2FF.

And we can expect this as well right?

"And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the
Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three
shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting
shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two,
excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the
number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy
Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My
sight, shall snuff it.'

If there's no Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, I'm going to start hugging shrubberies.

Regards

Not everyone will find a crafting/tradeskill event fun, just like not everyone will find a PKL event fun, or a monster invasion event fun.

I know you said you don't want mules running to you, but my mule is REALLY slow and honestly, if you are far and near monsters at all, I can't get to you. I think it'll be the same for many crafters... so I'd much rather make something and be teleported to you or vice versa. Since I mean, why is running to you part of this? It doesn't exactly involve anything... it'd just force me to completely out my mule (a pain in the a$$) and maybe even raise my run/quickness (waste of xp).

So, maybe you could just have yourself located in like say the pkl tourny dungeon and when someone says they have that item, teleport them to you. They give you the item and you teleport them back.

I dunno... I just really don't feel like not making the 15 minutes because I can't run fast enough or am forced to waste time muling the item and runnig with my other guy to you.

"Not everyone will find a crafting/tradeskill event fun, just like not everyone will find a PKL event fun, or a monster invasion event fun." - Geneva

Right...

I'm not saying this event shouldn't be done.

What I'm asking is... well, I already asked it... What do people find fun about these crafting events?

Is it clapping faster than another?

Is it knowing where the cheapest/best ingredients are?

Is it your knowledge of recipes?

Is it coming up with your own unique recipes?

I'm asking because -I- want to know.

Do you not know Geneva? If you don't, that's gonna make it rough to please folks who like crafting, won't it?

Is it clapping faster than another?

I don't think you can make the clapping animation faster.

Is it knowing where the cheapest/best ingredients are?

Yes, some people really covet that knowledge. I really enjoy knowing where certain points of interest are, or having information on "Old school" stuff.

Is it your knowledge of recipes?

I think someone who can gather that information and hold it are very special. I can't remember how to make stuff EVER, even easy stuff. I find it very impressive that people know it...if I did, I'd be pretty proud of myself.

Is it coming up with your own unique recipes?

Cooking and alchy are very important aspects of the game. Stam/mana/health pots, rations, dying stuff...all that. I'm not sure though that this contest is about making your OWN recipes...is that even in the tech? The items first have to be able to be combined, and then the item that it generates needs to be in the code...so I'm not sure thats possible.

Not to mention, almost everyone is in the market for PRIZES. The word prize in my mind is a huge trigger. "What, you mean I get STUFF??? YAY! *balloons, confetti" Maybe it isn't that way for everyone, but it is that way for some people. Like the PKL tournament - we didn't know all of the rewards beforehand, and people still particpated.

Perhaps you should try it out just for the experience? It doesn't hurt. I have almost no knowledge of recipes, but I'd participate if I could.

I can't believe so many people are complaining about a crafting live event. If you don't care about crafting, don't participate. I certainly didn't care one whit about a PK/PKL tournament, so I didn't participate.

For those who do enjoy crafting, it will be fun. I hope a list of the requested items will show up somewhere after it's all over (I'm not sure I'll be available during the scheduled time for Solclaim, and I'm curious).

Thanks. I see what you mean about disrupting people that aren't interested - I'm starting to find those drudge invasion messages a bit annoying and thats every 3 hours or so, not 15 minutes ;) But you may want to do at least one global broadcast 10-15 minutes before it starts telling everyone to tune into the trade channel.

and FYI, I saw you edited the original post to change to trade channel, but you missed one, which may be confusing as its the first mention of what channel it will be on.

I will setup in one of the starter towns and I'll send out a "Trade Request" on General Chat.

You can only win once per Trade Request. For example let's say I make a Trade Request for 10 Mana Oils (not likely mind you), you can not make 100 Mana Oils and win 10 times.

can 1 person win multiple times?

Oh and thanks Adventurer, I updated the original post to fix the reference to General chat.

Geneva
08-01-2007, 08:00 PM
This is true, but you can be sure the items requested will not be nearly as easy to make as Mana Oils.

You also have to remember that most (not all) of the items I ask for will have to be traded to me, so you willl be "losing" things. Of course you will also get the set reward and your #1-100 reward so you'll be "gaining" things too.

I'll leave any further details for the event itself, I mean I do have to keep SOME things to surprise you guys. :D

But you can make 10 mana oils, for each of your characters, and get more prizes that way...

I'll never tell. :D

I think every item on the list was given away at least once throughout all of the events. Some players were very secretive when they won though, so I'm almost positive that a few of the rewards will remain a mystery to all except those that happened to pick the "lucky" number.

I tried to ensure that the rewards were all useful in some way. There really were no booby prizes per say. Some rewards were alot nicer than others though and appeared on the list less times.

I really like the random reward part of this event (1-100) and I'm thinking of using that premise for something in the very near future. I'm still working out some of the details in my noggin and I'll be sure when the idea nears completion to have something posted on these forums.

Just wondered what some of the prizes were.

You banned players from darktide for killing other players. You banned a friend of mine and several others for saying they had the items when they didn't and then trying to kill you when you showed up. Its darktide, I remember back when Blood swore to Bael'Zharon, and Martine joined in the PK fights. Those were good events for all worlds including DT, the current events seem like something you'd expect from a low budget or dying game.

Geneva

Nobody was banned for killing other players, if someone told you that, they lied.

Any player that was going out of their way to disrupt the event was removed which includes a couple people that thought it was a riot to keep lying and telling me they had the items when they did not.

You say it's DT? I don't care what server it is, you may not like the event but show an ounce of maturity and allow the players that DID want to participate to enjoy the event.

Well you can't blame Geneva for trying to do his job while people on DT are being ***hats. I do agree with you there has beena lack of thought put into the content and events. The PK tournament was an awesome idea, but something as cheesy as cooking food for an event is pretty bad.

I thought cooking, alchy, tinks for a live event was a solid idea. You have to have a lot of stuff muled for even a chance of getting a prize. I thought I had enough stuff for the WE event but in the end got none of the tasks accomplished in time. But was still a blast trying and visiting the other servers.

Only thing I don't like about it is that future crafting events will not be at a scheduled time. I have a flexable schedule but still can't be online everyday and I really want another crack at this.

I have enough brown beans now and, oops, still need ginger, bye now!

No offense Geneva, but in the future could these be done by an actual character in the story?

And I'm not talking some big role playing, story advancing thing. Maybe the RM and WB need supplies, Ulgrim is preparing for a party, Apep-tek has regrown his tongue and wants to test it out, anything like that.

Wahhhh, w-w-waahhhhhhh!!!!^^^ :D

Sounds great Geneva! I'll try to be there, definitely. At some point, I think some people are concerned that the Live Events, while extremely fun (I love'em), aren't really relative to the storyline.

Maybe for the future, considerations of things like that could be some how involved with the New Harbinger, or a refocal point on Adso, The RM/WB, or the Big picture, King Varicci vs High Queen Elysa!

Just throwin' that out there. I look forward to this event anyhow! I hope it turns out wonderfully.
